Not too crazy about what I heard in the video but it was only a few seconds so I'll wait.

It's awesome that he sounds like a nobleman. I support Hawke's voice.

hawke's mom must have made it sure that he would end up talking that way.^_^

mother: just because we're living in a rural village that's no excuse for not having a proper education.

Has it ever said that Hawke's family's actually from Lothering ? IIRC there was supposed to be refugees streaming in from all over, ahead of the Darkspawn.

Like the voice, BTW. Boulton did pretty well with his DA:O characters.

good question, they were living in lothering until the darkspawn attack but we don't know much beyond that.
hawke's father may have been originally from denerim for all we know.

I didn't suggest it was due to DNA (give me some credit here, I'm not THAT stupid), but that we can safely assume he learned language from his parents, and that if his commoner parent was possibly not present during his upbringing, he most likely learned it from his upper-class mother.

And yes, living among peasantry would have probably given him a coarser accent but come on, have some pity on us non-UK English speakers here. We want to understand the dialogue too. I'll sacrifice authenticity for intelligibility any day of the week.

I didn't mean it like that I just meant that his voice should take into consideration his surroundings, I meant no slight or anything, and aye, I understand about non-uk folk though there are easy to understand accents that aren't based in the 1800s or something.

It just sounds like Hawke would backhand Oliver for not shining his shoes properly really. But meh, it's not too bad.

least it's not; What ho! old chap let's give these bad fellows a right royal seeing to! what! what! Though Hawke with monocle, pipe, and with his name changed to lord british could be interesting with that voice.

I love the British accents in the Dragon Age games!

But I would have liked to hear Hawke as bit more "grim" person.

I suppose Richard Armitage would fit the role of a 'grimmer' Hawke.

I will sleep easy knowing that Hawke is UK. Only last night I woke up at half three sweating so much I nearly drowned and shaking like a pneumatic drill because I had a nightmare in which Hawke spoke with a distinct cowboy accent and said the word 'darksparn.'

I definitely thought it could have been a little more "street". Trouble being that once you move away from recieved pronunciation, american concepts of british accents start to get a bit wierd. Presumably so they can tell them apart from australian, something I'm not sure I'll ever understand. It tends to fall into david prowse style west country or dick van ****** ****-en-nee. Chim chiminee, chim chiminee chim chim, etc.

edit: damn you profanity filter, damn you to ****

I though he sounded rather posh whilst being portrayed as a brutal warrior in the trailer xD.

Any word on who the actress for Femhawke will be?

We have not heard his humorous or angry voice yet.

It sounded suitably different in the demo I played, it didn't sound exactly like Vaughan or anything that's for sure. I found in the demo at least that he sounded most like Vaughan when I chose the nasty dialogue choices (for obvious reasons).

Anyway, I've been saying it's him for ages (along with some others) so I'm kinda biased in this. Still find it funny that he was/is in Doctors though haha! I'm very impressed so far with the way Bioware cast their games, casting so many Brits to play Fereldens is great to see.

Morrigan was a NPC Hawke isn't.

And yeah that voice...I hope FemHawke doesn't sound similar.

And personally I'd prefer not to have the english accent.

maybe it's because it's a scheduled reveal, but if hawke's voice actor is Boulton, it's a bit weird that we don't have an official confirmation yet.

I think Gaider might have given us a similar clue about her as the male VA (that her VA was in Origins or ME) but I can't remember the specifics. The reason it hasn't been dug into is because we didn't have anything else to go on, with the Male Hawke VA we knew he voiced a character disliked by the fanbase as well as being British so the list of who it could be was narrowed.

With that said my guess for male Hawke was correct so maybe my guess for Lady Hawke was correct too. :P

Okay so I went back and found the post I made on who would voice her from way back:

Me of the past wrote...

David Gaider said in his live chat that (similarly to Garret Hawke) it
would be someone who played a minor role in DAO and also voiced a
character in Mass Effect. It was unclear whether the character they
voiced was in ME1 or 2, or whether the character was important.

I went through the entire cast list for DAO as it is on IMDB, then I checked each voice artists profile to see their role in ME (if any).

Jocelyn Ahlf - Canada, Mithra (DA) Add voices (me)
April Banigan - Canada (?) Khalisah Al-Jilani (ME) Kitty/Devara (DA)
Shannon Blanchet - Canada, Captain Enyala (ME) Liselle (DA)
Wendy Braun - USA, 40, Gianna Parasini (ME), Felsi (DA)
Kimberly Brooks - American, Ashley (ME) Lanaya (DA)
Belinda Cornish* - UK, young enough, Rana Thanoptis (ME) Goldanna/The Baroness (DA), Apparently married to Mark Meer? Founding member of theatre company in Canada. Born and raised in London.
Kim Mai Guest - USA, 41, Wise Dwarf (DA) Maeko Matsuo (ME)
Erin Matthews - USA, 37, Merill (DA) Lizbeth (ME)
April Stewart - USA, 42, Wise Elf (DA) Nelyna (ME)
Cree Summer - USA, 41, Macha Doyle (ME) Violent Elf (DA)
Courtenay Taylor - USA, 41, Jack (ME2) Farinden/Shaevra (DA)
Audrey Wasilewski - USA, 43, Kate Bowman (ME) Nesiara (DA)
Alix Wilton Regan - UK, 23, Not in ME, Mhari, Cauthrien

My guess is that it is Belinda Cornish. The list gets a lot shorter if you discount any non-Brits but I think I left them on their in case one of them can do an accent.

Yup, I would go with that guess too Apollo, though obviously hearing Lady Hawke would help possibly.

Besides if you discount non-brits, there is only her that has been in both. Also, would be kind of amusing, 2 of the characters people loved to hate (Vaughan and Goldanna) in DAO being the voice of Hawke.

She did a good job with the characters she has done, nice variety too, out of the 3 she has done in the games.

As much as I hate the character Goldana, the voie-acting for her was well-done. That's an interesitng pick for Lady Hawke.

Well this is quite short-sighted. Ser Bryant does not sound like a rapist to me.

Well sadly for you, Ferelden's have English accents. It's not as if we get that many gaming protagonists with our accent anyway. I don't think Hawke will sound posh all the time if that's what you are worried about.

I would guess by Lady Hawke sounding 'similar' you mean sounding noble and English? No idea about her being noble but she will be voiced by a Brit.

Kicking myself for not going back to play the demo as Lady Hawke to be honest, but I went through twice as Beardy Hawke so I could check for Boulton-ness. I had somehow completely missed the relevance of her voicing Goldanna until you pointed it out though! That'll be amusing if both VA's previously voiced disliked characters.

Hawke sounds good to me. I don't think he sounds too posh, and I live in northern England so I'm bound to notice these things. The way some are reacting, you'd think he sounded like this.

Male Hawke sounds somewhat upper-class and well-educated but not necessarily "posh".

Alastair Cameo...

Lady Hawke: Greetings my lord.
*Alastair freezes up for a moment and stares at Hawke in shock*
Alastair: Sorry about that, your voice just reminded me... of someone else... that I'd rather not talk about.

Actually that's a point, with regards someones comment about Steve Valentine, there is no way it would be him because he voiced Alastair. Big role in DAO = not going to be big role character in DA2 (unless playing same role), that is why Isabella isn't voiced by Mika Simmons in DA2, because she is the voice of Anora as well. Although with that in mind, surely Vaughan would be classed as big? At least with Goldanna players could 'miss her' if they wanted. Although then again other than for City Elves Vaughan could be missable for other Wardens I guess and so am assuming by big they mean...

Alastair, Anora, Loghain, , first 2 being the most obvious though with the potential for them being in DA2 as ruler of Ferelden.

*tries to get the sound of Goldanna as Hawke out of his head* If it is her, I hope Hawke is more of a 'Rana' voice than 'Goldanna', I'd just be having visions of that chat in DAO all the time if it was the latter :P

Hasn't it been said somewhere that Belinda Cornish plays Cassandra?(too cold and lazy to look it up, stoopid British weather)

In which case it's pretty set that it won't be her for LadyHawke.

And also, really liking Isabela's new voice - didn't like the original..please don't kill me Mika fans!

I do fall under the class of people who felt the voice didn't fit the idea of Hawke I drew from the trailers and his appearance, but we really only have a tiny sample. I'm withholding full judgment until I hear a lot more lines, and in particular how the aggressive tone is voiced.

Plus, no matter who does the voice-work, there's bound to be those who feel it doesn't fit their idea of the character. It's a largely unavoidable weakness of a voiced PC (though I still by far support the change from the silent PC).
