My guess is that it is Belinda Cornish. The list gets a lot shorter if you discount any non-Brits but I think I left them on their in case one of them can do an accent.

Nice theory, seems like a well educated guess.

I agree. I grew up in the South West of England (another area with strong accents) and I used to get called posh just because I didn't really have an accent and spoke mostly in RP. The 'posh/noble' label gets thrown around too often sometimes.

Hasn't it been said somewhere that Belinda Cornish plays Cassandra?(too cold and lazy to look it up, stoopid British weather)

In which case it's pretty set that it won't be her for LadyHawke.
And also, really liking Isabela's new voice - didn't like the original..please don't kill me Mika fans!

The only thing I could find was a poster in the Cassandra thread saying that she is Belinda Cornish, but not backing it up with a source. There are no other google hits for Bioware social or any other stating that it is, most of the other hits were us from months back saying that Belinda Cornish is odds on favourite for Lady Hawke. I'm going to guess that said poster was just saying who they thought Cass sounded like, can't imagine VA info being missed that badly really.

I agree that the British weather is stupid though, my water pipes froze a couple of nights ago...

And yeah that voice...I hope FemHawke doesn't sound similar.

And personally I'd prefer not to have the english accent.

Well sadly for you, Ferelden's have English accents. It's not as if we get that many gaming protagonists with our accent anyway. I don't think Hawke will sound posh all the time if that's what you are worried about.

I would guess by Lady Hawke sounding 'similar' you mean sounding noble and English? No idea about her being noble but she will be voiced by a Brit.

The noble part annoys me far more than the english.

Though you're right about the not getting GP's with our accent. :(

But honestly he sounds so...urgh.

:/ Which is odd because I didn't mind Ser Bryant's voice but Hawke sounds like some odd mishmash of Ser Bryant and Vaughn and I don't like that at all.

*goes all Lycanthrope due to last comment* HOOOOOOOOOOWWW...*coughs and transforms back* erm... only kidding :D

Actually now you said that, for some reason I do get the strangest recollection of that being said and yes if it is the case as I mentioned above, no way they going to have someone do the VA for 2 big characters.

I was kind of hoping Alix Wilton Regan might be at least the VA for a follower (that doesn't die) as I liked her work as Cauthrien/Mhairi (and the other ones she did). But if it is sticking with the DAO/ME theme then it can't be her doing Hawke though maybe still a potential follower that we don't know about (or maybe she is voicing Aveline?)

Back to Mika, I liked her as both Isabella and Anora, although glad they gone with the idea of people not voicing 2 big characters in DA2 and yes the new VA sounds just as nice as Isabella (anyone know who it is?) and hopefully if the rumours about Valentine/Alastair having cameo in DAO that means Simmons/Anora will too. Even if I did prefer Valentine's version of the "FOR FERELDEN! FOR THE GREY WARDEEEEEEEEENS!" line.

If Belinda is doing Cassandra am impressed because that is another totally different voice to the ones she has done in the previous games.

@Rab****annel LOL@revel comment... yes I would imagine he revelled in all the supervulous amounts of blood and gore that is still in DA2. Far more than he probably saw Vaughan splattered in during DAO :D

I did like Anora's voice, but both Izzy's and the violent Female Human just sort of um, rubbed me the wrong way - not taking anything away fom the acting, just the actual sound...if that makes any sense?

Didn't bother my female noble and Leli though

I grew up in and still live in the east midlands, inside the cities there's no real accents but we don't sound like Hawke, It's the tone and pronunciation rather than the accent.

The water in majorca doesn't taste like what it ought to. <-- I assume people will get that.

It's down to my prior expectations I guess, but then like I keep sayin it's not that bad.

It's not really that noble, just with a bit more emphasis than the more regular received pronunciation.

Yeah, hence why I mentioned received pronounciation. A lot of people just seem to take someone who speaks in that way as being posh thesedays.

Ah well. If FemHawke sounds better I'll be fine.

Where in the north? I'm from Sheffield and while I like the accent and voice, it does sound a bit too articulate. It's not on the level of Prince Charles' poshness but it's still pretty upper-class. I don't speak anything like that and I've lived in England my whole life and I rarely hear people be so well spoken if I just meet them off the street. Maybe I need to listen over the voice a couple of times though. :?

There's nothing inherently posh about an accent.  What's considered "well-spoken" is socially constructed.  There's no particular reason that Ferelden nobility couldn't sound like cockneys and alienage elves sound like Prince Charles.  As far as I'm concerned, the only limitation on Hawke's accent should be that it should sound reasonably consistent with the accent of other people in Lothering as presented in DA:O.

I completely adore the voice. My anticipation of the game has risen even higher just because of this knowledge. I'm very, very happy about this choice of VA. :)

Most of the southern half of England speak received pronunciation, although sometimes with varying degrees of emphasis (West Country, cockney and East Anglia notwithstanding.)

While I completely agree that you couldn't really expect a fictional world to follow the same social derived accents as the real world, you can't avoid the associations that people are going to make with them.

Lancashire now, though I've also lived in the south too, so I don't have a regional accent. Anyway, I hope we can agree that a fairly upper-class sounding accent is preferable to Estuary English. I don't think I could stand to play the game if Hawke sounded like Jamie Oliver.

By articulate, I didn't mean educated. Otherwise I would of used the word educated. I mean, that the pronunciation of the words is overly upper-class to me, his wording is too high-pitched and clear, in particular his pronunciation of 'Castion' (or however it's spelt), 'back' and 'relic' just sounds too noble to me. But like I said, I still like the voice but I wouldn't call it an accurate british accent, most people don't speak like that and most people don't speak cockney either. The reason nobility couldn't sound like cockney and alienage elves sound like prince charles is that obviously those are real life accents and giving them to the opposite sociolect that they are commonly associated with would just confuse the audience. I've listened to the recording 4 times in a row now and I still think it's sounds overly articulate, my friends say I speak rather posh but I don't speak to that level.

Oh nice, I haven't been to Lancashire. I was born in London and I've been there and other places in the south quite a bit but I spent most of my life in Sheffield, so I don't really have a regional accent. Most people in Britian don't. Of course we can agree on that, I never implied that Hawke should speak Estuary English or cockney, all I said is that his words sounded overly upper-class and I would rather they sounded middle class/normal. Maybe I just haven't heard british accents so crisp in a long time, I'm not sure but it just sounds..too much to me.

I can't tell whether you're being sarcastic here, but in no way did I say estuary english is good or is what Hawke should be using, where are people jumping to this conclusion? This is why I dislike posting on the forums, just because I think Hawke sounds overly upper-class doesn't mean I don't like his voice. I do. I don't think he should use cockney or any other Estuary English accents :pinched: I don't want him sounding like a freaking farmer.

If you're not being sarcastic then I'm glad we agree that Hawke sounds a bit off.

I'm a big fan of Meer's artfully understated performance as Commander Shepard. Jennifer Hale's hammish overacting in ME2 led me to abandon several FemSheps I had planned on importing from ME1.

*thumbs up for Mark Meer showing restraint and playing a self-confident Shepard who doesn't feel the need to be overly theatrical*

While Meer was maybe...a bit unreactive. I didn't find his voice as terrible as some people on this forum and frequently played M!Shep, actually I played M!Shep more than F!Shep, I liked Hale's voice too but not so much in ME2, some times it just felt her voice didn't suit my character's image (a bit too gruff perhaps?)
