This is something I took issue with in Mass Effect.

On both the SR1 AND SR2 we wear normal clothing but on the citadel we are forced to wear armor. Considering there are limited times we actually needed armor on the citadel in both me1 and me2 would it not make sence to allow shepard to wear his clothing on the citadel and then have him switch to armor for the one time he actually needs it?

This is a minor detail but it makes sence even the krogan on the citadel in ME2 are not up-armored.

So perhaps for ME3 in areas like the citadel and perhaps any other non combat zones like Afterlife or some other space stations an example being the station you meet TIM on our sheps can just wear their normal outfit chosen by the player.

So just a suggestion

Any thoughts?

If I was Shepard, I'd personally be on guard in case an assassin or disgruntled xenophobe were to cross my path.

Besides, I'm not on shore leave. I wanna look like I actually have something going on in my life.

Well, I'm with the OP.

I do use mods to switch to the casual clothing (well, I'd rather say 'semi-casual' 'cos the suit my Shep prefers is pretty formal) and disable weapons while visiting the Citadel, Illium and sometimes Omega. I've thought about possible assassination attempts and the like, but a good sniper would aim for the head; I don't use helmets anyway unless the environment requires it. Besides, biotic shields ftw; also, my Shep always carries a pictol with her and has her biotics ready should something happen.

As for the 'shore leave', I've already mentioned my Shep is wearing a formal suit, so it's more like a business/diplomatic visit. I find a suit to be more appropriate than armor; I think Shep looks kinda weird running around in full armor set and with a nuke.

I'm all for the option to choose either armor or casual apparel when visiting Citadel/Illium.

I agree that running around the Citadel with a Cain on your back would probably get you hauled off to C-Sec quite a bit. But they are instances where you could fight in the Citadel, and in ME1 you do fight in the Wards. So if they implemented this, you'd know right away whether or not there was going to be any action.

In most cases (if not all) it's obvoius you're going to fight nevertheless because the context and the mission/quest imply so. As for other cases, I think it could've been cool to let you and your squadmates defend themselves with pistols and powers only without benefits armor gives. Kinda what you do during Kasumi's LM in the security office.

Yeah I’ve posted on this too we should be able to wear our casuals in safe ports Illium and the Citadel maybe colonies where we won’t get shot at ect. But I still think armor is mandatory in Omega.

I don't have an issue to run around armed and in armor on the Citadel wards, Illium or god forbid Omega. These places are rough enough to warrant caution. The only time it irritated me was when visiting the council in person in ME1. It is a bit odd that they let a team of three soldiers armed to the teeth just stroll in like that (especially before Shepard becomes a spectre).

So yeah, would be nice to ahve the option but not a big issue for me really.

Hmm yeah, it always did seem little strange to me that you wonder around the citadel in armor with a nuke on your back :P

Still there are a few times that you actually fight in these zones, having you switch to armor all of a sudden would be even weirder than just wondering around in armor all the time. They could have that you keep a pistol on you at all times like in the kasumi dlc and that would be sufficient.

Yes keeping your pistol seems logical

Also really only soldiers would be screwed by not having armor.

Adepts Vanguards Engineers and Sentinals would be fine without armor and have no trouble killing some surprise attack from citadel thugs.

True, but Soldiers have Adreline Rush, and Sheperds nevers walks alone, I am sure he would have a biotic capable squadmate to his side ;)

but yeah, I want to be casual on the Citadel -- Omega uhm not so much

Even the soldiers shouldn’t have too much trouble. I never had any issue killing guards on the kasumi dlc with my solider or infiltrator, you have companions and your no likely to run into huge fights in the citadel anyway. Yeah you would be slightly less badass but not the pistol is actually quite a good weapon and armor only matters if you’re getting hit ;)

I support casual on the citadel!

Just for the sake of keeping immersion, the savior of the galaxy has enough enemies to worry about. Keeping his armor on when he leaves the Normandy is the least he can do.

Armor doesn't bother me. Helmets do. Wear Blood Dragon when visiting Illium and Liara will kiss your helmet.

DA:O had characters automagically lose their helmet when talking. Some complained, I thought it was the best way to solve the problem.

Maybe Shepard's just playing it safe. In the first game, you get into a fight within 10 minutes of landing on the Citadel, after all. :P

Are you insinuating that constantly being armed with a nuclear powered weapon, a widow, a handcannon, a sub machine gun and in full body armor at while buying a hamster is impractical?

My Shepard is not the type to go with a pistol and no armour against armoured Krogans with assault rifles, sorry.
That and it would require us to return to Normandy to start every mission that could have some shooting.

The first you you've ever brought Shep on Citadel he spent more time in shoothing agains Saren's and Fist's assassins than in enjoying the visit. So I guess now s/he's quite... suspicios to go around it undefended :P

I guess its understandable for the first game to have the armor but in the second game there are only two fights on the citadel and one is in a completely differant location which you cannot access again and the first is the short confronatation where two krogan end up dead. ( I dont want to say more due to spoilers)

Do you have to return to Normandy to choose squadmates and weapons when, say, going to get Thane? No. You just call the car - it arrives - you have party and armor selection screens - mission starts.

Also, I agree that it's logical to wear armor when you know you're most likely going to fight, and I did not suggest going on missions in casual wear.

I like the idea of the pistol with you or else the player could choose one gun to take with you so if you want the Cain you could have it. But casuals in safe ports like Citadel, Illium, ect not necessarily Omega….but they can also take the shields with them too for added protection and it doesn’t scream here I am shoot me like full armor and every gun on your ship does. The only time it makes sense in safe ports is shep goes looking for trouble like when you went to recruit both Thane and Samara you knew resistance was likely so Shep shows up in armor prior to that of course shep could’ve been in casual wear. If for instance they unleash assassins on us in 3 at random safe ports as even in casual wear as long as you’ve got a gun and the shield mod you’re good it worked in Kasumi’s mission so it’ll work non Kasumi too.

Here is the real question......are those Cerberus uniforms Onesies, lol? Cause, those shoes/boots look all rubber.

But in answer to the original poster, I say just call it convenience. In the Kasumi DLC and Samara's quest we see Shepard does change when he is not on the clock. Besides, Citadel is not safe from crime.

Seriously. Inquiring minds want to know!

Also, I want to know how Shepard walks around the Normandy in those little heels after the Katsumi quest. The floor of the Normandy is not even!  Shepard's good, but she's not that good.

Psh! Speak for your own Shepard...

And I have not played Kasumi DLC. But if they did something similar to what the OP wants, maybe they're looking at doing something like that for ME3?
