Oh, no. I just remembered something the .bat can't remedy: the need for hotfixes. Spell_Rev has one... *sigh* I'll have to use it on the reinstall...
hehehehehe Um... yeah... and still not done... but I'm only going to play it for the fun of watching the crashes... until the novelty wears off. Then I'll do the paired-down reinstall with a very complete .bat that no longer requires me to suffer through the component-by-component, mod-by-mod, .exe-by.exe clickings that make the modding process so beleaguering otherwise.Humanoid_Taifun wrote...
You. Are. Using. A. Lot. Of. Mods.
Mind you, more than a majority of the mods are for extra NPCs (who I'll probably never use given the content for the original NPCs) and quest mods for both BG1 and 2 (which I'll probably remove just to avoid potential conflicts), so they'll not be making second cut, especially since I really want to see BG2 closer to the way it was originally designed and intended. If this install were to actually work, there would be so many joinable NPCs cluttering up the world, I'd have to specialize in assassinations. It's the BG2 NPC and quest extra content that is the most superfluous since I don't want to play BG1 without the extras now (like Evil Lantier said in the beginning).
I'm just hoping the Kerzen Keep order list will have been savvy enough to keep the ship afloat on modded waves. What the huge list does not mention are the myriad potential conflicts between individual components. It didn't warn of the IEP Banters Disaster, for instance, despite placing it where it was, nor did it list Item Revisions twice for the Main and Global components, so the component-level reasoning behind the list is not exactly transparent. Actually on that note, when IEP Banters tried to do the reinstall it placed its overriding Player-Initiated Dialogue option way back there, then proceeded all the way back to the end of the install to put the rest of its components. *shakes head* At least it seemed to think it knew what it was doing. I've done what I can to keep to it without sinking into the pitfalls it necessarily entails if installed without careful attention to the Readmes.
OK... Mod 69: SCSII... And by the way, all my notes, log, and .bat will be forthcoming once I've done my compiling (and testing)...
Oh, a trivia question. I tried to find this on the web and every site just describes it as a "sword." It's a tad bit of metagaming, but one thing I remember from BG2 is Lilarcor with a sense that the voice was qualitatively superior to the talking sword that shows up in NWN. I recently heard the NWN one again- which actually was quite funny- but I want to prepare to use the BG sword- i.e., with the right proficiency. Is it a two-handed sword? Bastard sword?

This post from last October shows it to be an issue related to the GavinBG2 mod which attempts to make Gavin a vampire at some point. *sigh* DavidW says it's an SCSII issue and gave his own Hotfix, albeit not worked into the current version of SCSII apparently.[./override/B!EVIE.CRE] loaded, 1076 bytes

This post from G3 almost exactly 1 yr ago examines this one somewhat (and concludes here really), as does this post from BWP. They both point to a Spell Revisions component and suggest, wouldn't you know... the Spell Revisions hotfix that I forgot. *grumble*Copying and patching 2 files ...

So much for preliminary research...
Unless this issue recurs in future (more realistic) installs, I'm not going to pursue it particularly far. Instead I'm going to install SCSII on a "dummy" BGT-BG2 game alone with no other mod so I can simply get the .bat info. If only Readmes would list the components by the number used in the installation process, building .bat's wouldn't require this extra step, but alas most simply install fewer mods directly from the extractors. I'm surprised though that there isn't a more streamlined process by now. *shrug*
I'm hoping these aren't fatal errors for my purposes (or even to play it, though it would be missing arcane casting enhancements and vampire madness in BG2) so I'll just proceed. Come to think of it, SCSI & II are installed according to mods already installed- i.e., they have heavily tailored components installed according to those other mods- so I would have to install all relevant mods prior to SCSII to make a WeiDU.log in the "dummy" folder with information sufficiently transferable to a universally tweakable .bat. The plot thickens...
ATTEMPT #4... having reached only 14 from the end this time... For this attempt I'll have to make two batchers, it seems- one leading up to Spell Rev, the other proceeding after (with the Hotfix)...
[EDIT- Noooooooo, I don't need two batchers. Both hotfixes are to be done before installation (see? I listen sometimes!), so here goes with the one sweeping .bat...]

~SCSII/SETUP-SCSII.TP2~ #0 #6152 // Smarter Mages -> Mages never cast short-duration spells instantly at start of combat: v15
If you want them to prebuff, I guess you coul try fiddling with the last digit a bit. The 2 seems to correspond to this:
- Option 1: Mages are always allowed to cast spells
instantly at the start of combat. This is basically the same way magic
works in SCS,
and is tactically the hardest challenge; however, on occasion it might
appear a bit unrealistic.- Option 2: Mages are allowed to cast spells instantly
at the start of combat only when they are created near the PC (e.g. enemy
mages teleporting in to ambush you). This is basically how Tactics
handles this (though I think I keep to the rules more strictly than
Tactics does). It's somewhat less challenging, but since even casters
whom you catch off-guard have contingencies and sequencers to defend
themselves with, mages can slam up defences pretty quickly.- Option 3: Mages never cast spells instantly. (Though,
again, they can very quickly use contingencies and sequencers to defend
themselves.)

In the case of SCSII's Smarter Mages, option 1 is 6150, option 2 is 6151 and option 3 is 6152. (But the numbers are completely arbitrary. If DavidW were a little less lucid, they may as well have started at 6152 and gone on to 6150, or been completely random.)

Yes, thanks actually, but in a rather befuddled (frustrated) way I intended to convey that those WeiDU.log entries don't work for me (or rather those two alone don't work for me) because unfortunately once those two key components didn't install (I chose 6152 too, not wanting the enemy to have "insta-cast" spells when I can't) there were plenty of other 6130- and 6152-dependent components that didn't install also, and I don't know which ones. For instance, 6130 is necessary to enable the Improved Bodhi component. 6152 is involved in plenty more, like liches, beholders, etc.Humanoid_Taifun wrote...

The only remedy is to simply correct the issues (with the hotfixes) and then attempt the re-install from the beginning again. Now that I've been through the SCSII Readme component-by-many-many-a-component it should go a tad faster than last night...
Funny... it's been 2 months since I started this thread and I've played one buggy game ever since.
But I was properly warned, and take this advice heartily, refusing to let myself become disheartened...
But tonight's the night! It's all going to work!... And if it doesn't I'll just do it your way and actually enjoy the game at last...So sayeth the wise Humanoid_Taifun (to someone else)...
Maybe I should have said this earlier, but the reason I haven't suggested any more mods yet is that I believe that 3 mods is plenty for a first-time mod user. The more mods you add, the more likely you will encounter incompabilities, leading you back to the belief that mods are bad.

Thanks for the tip, Irrbloss! Of course, a lot of mods don't extract with a .tp2... or is it just that some locate it in the main BG2 section while others locate it in their own BG2-housed directory?Irrbloss wrote...
If you want to get the component numbers you open the .tp2 file and hope the modder used DESIGNATED. (If he didn't you are stuck with counting BEGINs or installing the mod manually and picking the number from the log.)
Well, ATTEMPT 5 died last night actually when, after having tried to "clean up" my extracted mod folder and apparently "cleaning out" needed files, it ERRORed out on the third mod. Then I went to play NWN on cheat mode and went to bed...
So tonight first I did a complete reinstall of the mod extractions folder (thus keeping it separate from the "clean" BG2 clone folder) which took a while, added the IR, SR, & SCSII hotfixes, and did another reshuffle of both the "clean" clone and "clean & hotfixed" mod folders into BG2.
Here goes ATTEMPT 6... *click*
[EDIT: I wonder if there's some way to incorporate the cmd prompt installation interruptions by BGT (for the prompt to enter the BG1 directory) and now BG1NPCs (setting timers for romance talk)... and whatever else comes along... into the .bat. Then I could truly just click once and wait... And come to think of it, the inclusion of "skip-at-view" near the beginning of each entry in the .bat only seems to suppress readme's when they normally appear at the beginning of the install (when there is typically a prompt for it as well). Maybe if I put the same "skip-at-view" at the end of each also it will suppress the readme's on mods that pop it up then.]
[EDIT: Ha! No, I didn't do that... probably is out of order for what the .bat looks for, dunno... but, just after I mentioned that about readmes, the .bat install seemed to just freeze. I watied and waited and finally decided to shut some items down in case I had something open that was holding it up. The "Fade NPC" mod had force-opened its Readme in the background, and as soon as I closed it, the install resumed. Yesterday I was more vigilant about closing them as they opened, so I wouldn't have noticed.... Sheesh, "BonsBruce" too and now "Hessa." All pause at "--- Done decoding all input files ----" until you close the readme. Why not just not open it in the first place!!!??]
[EDIT: DID IT! Well, made it to SCSII, Mod 69, and in only 1-2 hrs even with the normal interruptions... Here goes braving that install again...]
[EDIT: I couldn't just do so and instead made yet another extraneous directory for my c-drive to put my "pre-SCSII" install in case it goes wrong. Why bother though? If SCSII doesn't work...]
[EDIT: Cancelled that extra folder- just as well because... WORKED! *long sigh of relief* Finally onto Mod 70...]
[EDIT: Stumped a bit by the SCS "Priests can't cast in armor" issue... Item Rev can only remedy it by allowing unrestricted casting in armor, but what about BG2Tweaks' own version that allows spellcasting in armor with a penalty? It's still cheesy (casting in full plate is only a 35% penalty), but it's better than letting me exploit it without consequence. I could also use the "Spellcasting in armor causes casting slowdowns" from Item Rev which would affect my own cleric as well as opponent clerics equally. Is there no other viable option than eliminating anything that gets in the way of unrestricted armored spellcasting? I'm still undecided, and it requires better research.
[Need sleep... Well, I'll continue another day after all. I'm a bit too stubborn to abandon this course after investing so much in its successful conclusion. So close and yet so far...]
[EDIT: Slept, worked, IRLed, now back... Funny I never really considered this option: don't mod. I mean, in the case of the "SCS priest spellcasting in armor" issue. No Item Rev can help, but if you don't include any such "spellcast in armor" mod, SCS's priests do ok, as stated in DavidW's eureka post on the matter. I don't have to cheat at all... though I won't be able to cast in armor even with penalties either... That's it, I'm allowing stackable protection items now!]
[EDIT: Tweak mods are a great hodgepodge pot pourri, but unfortunately components like "Improved Athkatlan Guards," for instance, sound like something that should've come before SCS. I suppose I could tweak the .bat easily enough. That's what's so great with this. DH in the wrong place? *snip, paste* Not anymore. *2.5 hr reinstall* All better! But still a lucky 13 mods left...]

It can be done, but I don't know enough about DOS-batch scripting to help you. Odd that --skip-at-view isn't working. It should suppress the annoying readmes that pop up "by themselves". Running WeiDU on command line makes it automatically skip the readmes it normally asks you if you want to view (i.e. --skip-at-view is not necessary for those). And come to think of it, the inclusion of "skip-at-view" near the beginning of each entry in the .bat only seems to suppress readme's when they normally appear at the beginning of the install (when there is typically a prompt for it as well). There's nothing in this that I can do anything with at this point- though it would be nice if I could simply edit out their "call readme" line out of their .bat- but for now I've just left it and resigned myself to putting up a red flag here for anyone trying this at home.--skip-at-view doesn't work when the modder [possesses limitations] and calls the readme from the BAT, rather than from the tp2. Similarly, I can't detect if the BAT contains PAUSE or similar, and thus you'll have to notice and press enter yourself. Finally, WeiDU 199 opens the AT_*_EXIT commands (E.G. readmes) before the "press pause to exit..." rather than after, so this might cause a delay. However, if it actually waits for you to close the readme, it's a bug in Windoze, not in WeiDU (since `start readme.txt' should continue the execution without closing the application). Obviously, it's been ages since I installed mods on Windows, so I can't tell for sure

On a similar note, I kept seeing an odd ERROR installing the Imoen Romance that seemed non-fatal. It was saying something like "'PRINT' and 'EXHORT' are not proper commands." That .bat ends with these lines:
cd where_are_my_pants
print why_arent_my_pants_here
action get_mad
exhort agh!!.exe
No idea what the point of that was, but now I've rem'ed those lines out... BGT also calls up the readme at the end, so I tried to find it, but their .bat's are much more complex- at least to my realm of inexperience. Their readme isn't a .txt document though. Like many others they instead force a webpage to open. It's less spam than .txt docs, and it doesn't halt the install at the prompt, but it's still spam. It's most offensive because it's so pointless: by the time it's been installed, what do I need the readme for?? I will dig to find the readme's for SCS and the tweak mods so I can be sure of what it is I'm selecting while I'm selecting, but once I'm done, there's no more need for the readme- and that's exactly when it shows up! [EDIT: One addendum to editing the readme's out of .bats... The .bat isn't installed until after you install the mod, so you can't avoid the readme until you've installed the mod once first. This hopefully means only that I must figure out how to return my BG2 game to a clean install without deleting all the mod .exe's already there. It does take about an hour to delete the contents of both the BG2 folder and the trash can, so I suppose now I should look back at this link...

A bit too challenging. I sooo respect your own approach of grabbing a good couple handfuls of mods, tossing them in properly... and actually playing a game! If you like it, you do it again, maybe adding one or two more. Then you decide you want to dump 5 or 6 and try a different handful... and again, actually play a game!Grond0 wrote...

It must be the obsessive-compulsive in me that prevents that. After all this I'm still not done because even I don't like the cacophony of mods I worked in- that is, the mods are good, but the cacophony is less than melodic. It's very tempting just to play it as it is now since, well, no more waiting! But I'm aware of incompatibilities I ignored just to get the WeiDU.log info for the .bat, and I can't bear going into the game, getting far enough into it to really like the progress of my char, and then *ERROR* *CTD* *told ya so*- and no further. So there's still a ways before I reach Mordor.
That said though, Dark Horizons works! I haven't actually gone through it all, but it doesn't crash the Gnoll Stronghold this time anyway, even though I placed it as the earliest possible mod after BGT this time as well, just as the KerzeKeep list advocated. I have had CTD's already, but it's actually Vista that's the more more likely culprit: I loaded BG with "Run as administrator" (the only way I can get NWN to work either) and that issue vanished. The speed issue hasn't changed though. I'm wondering if it's a result of having used Shadowkeeper to increase my first Uberchar's speed. I tried two other times and found the stats were game-breaking, but maybe it has kept the increased speed despite the speed now saying 0 (normal). Or is this just the way BGT walking speed is? There's no way I'm dropping Faster Bears at this point, and to be able to outrun my age-old enemy Wolf is just wrong, so I've got to find a way to curtail that, maybe using the beta "Tutu walking speeds" component in BG2 Tweaks, but I'm afraid I'll get another zap like Item Rev's walking speed drag for heavier armor.
Hm, distracted tonight by reading the forum... more later...

BGT adopts BG2 speeds, which are faster than the BG1 standard. There was a brief discussion about this earlier in this thread - have you used the G3 Tweakpack option? If you have installed this it seems quite possible that either a compatibility issue or your use of Shadowkeeper would have reverted your character back to BG2 speeds while everyone else lags behind.Bhryaen wrote...

In fact, as I mentioned, I didn't end up installing BG2 Tweak's "walking speed" component since it's not explained enough to inspire confidence and it's still in "beta" status. I was just wondering if it might help. The discussion that had arisen earlier was based on concerns due to something I'd read about it, but this is the first seeing this issue in my game. The conclusion was just to change the frame rate, but I've found just what was mentioned: it slows or hastens the "overall speed of the game" (as the Config puts it) rather than just CHARNAME's. I did try making a new game with a new Uberchar that had no stat boost- no better. Then as a "control," I made a new game with a halforc with max CON (just to survive any stray wolf bite) and low DEX and played it normally: still outrunning wolves & bears.Grond0 wrote...

If you have installed this it seems quite possible that either a compatibility issue or your use of Shadowkeeper would have reverted your character back to BG2 speeds while everyone else lags behind.
I suspect it's one of the mods I used. It does more than just make my char faster than wolves. It looks like every creature walks exactly the same speed. Wolves trot as fast as bears shuffle as fast as Imoen chases me down trying to get recruited to my party, and none is fast enough to catch me. This means that the SCS "Faster Bears" component was overwritten. Also, although the "Call for Help" component works, whenever I manage to get out of visual range of whatever is chasing me, they stop dead in their tracks. Something has made all creatures subject to "out of sight, out of mind" (except gibberlings which seem to reach me anyway). So the game has been broken, but I doubt it was just my shadowkeeper tinkering with my char's movt speed that could cause all that. Of course I have no idea the full extent of the issues either since I only just started.
My guess is Aurora's Boots and Shoes given the mod's content, the placement after SCS, the inclusion of CRE changes in its scope, and a main component that is nearly entirely unexplained in the readme and that affected 1000s of files... but I don't know.
[Meanwhile my windows media player broke in Vista- and since WMP is integral to the Vista OP, I can't simply reinstall it alone. Since this issue was only the latest in many frustrations that Vista has caused me and is now the straw that has broken the milkshake's back, it's now decided: I'm either getting 7 or returning to XP... favoring the latter...]
Perhaps this is a good time to post my WeiDU.log and such! OK, prepare for a spamming... it's obviously long, so I'm self-conscious about forcing massive scrolldowns. I'll present first my notes which are admittedly incomplete. I was trying to fill them out as I went along, but left out plenty because I either couldn't remember and simply wanted to get on with things or didn't think it would help the process to note it. My intent with them was only to be able to remind myself of 1. possible incomptibilities & 2. where similar components were found thus making it easier to determine which mod to use as the primary source of a common particular effect. (My memory isn't what it used to be...)
Then I'll post the .bat as it is. It's not exactly like the WeiDU.log since I already began to make some changes (such as adding the missing Better NPC management) but definitely close to the same. Note that it's also not the same as ronin's style which you find at the instructions page. I renamed it "WeiDU Batcher" so I would be able to find it simply by scrolling to the end of the alphabetized BG2 folder list, and also so it would be placed next to the WeiDU.log which I was using in conjunction. Plus I got rid of some of the needless initial lines and renamed it there too. I was adding "pause" where I wanted it to stop so that I could see if all components selected received the "SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED" mark of approval. Whatever has happened to this game, everything did install without ERROR.
Then comes the WeiDU.log. And without further ado... Is that new armor? Do you like adventuring? Do you actually use that sword? Should I just post it now? How about now? How about now?
[EDIT: Seems Word format is also problematic for the forum's format... Just like Excel it showed up fine after pasting, but not after submitting...]

Also, 6.2 is an older version of Item Randomiser. If you, for whatever reason, end up reinstalling again I would recommend you grab the latest version. Unofficially that's 6.4 and if it hasn't been made available from G3 at the time you can get it here.

No, no. I suppose I should've mentioned that. My notes were intended for both installs with the [BGT] or [Tutu] prefacing the mod to indicate if it should only be used for that choice. I found out the hard way at the command prompt that Finch is only for Tutu (though I could've just read it right there in the readme, or rather could've just believed it when I read it).Irrbloss wrote...
You didn't actually install BGT on a EasyTutu game, did you?
Thanks, wow. It went up by .2 already?? It's .1 per month. hehe Hm, G3 has v6.3.Irrbloss wrote...
Also, 6.2 is an older version of Item Randomiser. If you, for whatever reason, end up reinstalling again I would recommend you grab the latest version. Unofficially that's 6.4 and if it hasn't been made available from G3 at the time you can get it here.

Phew - makes me exhausted just reading it. See you in about a year after you've finished playing through that lot!
Well, I don't intend playing through the whole thing in one go... at least not until I've played several games with new content to experiment with each time, and I doubt I'll like everything. And new things keep coming out, of course. I just wanted to "get their number," so to say. My .bat will be just as long each time, but it won't be installing the whole lot in each go. I'm not sure it's possible to get all the NPC dialogues in a single go even doing extra quests, but I wasn't intending to try...
