"Joystiq has learned from a trusted source that BioWare's enigmatic teaser from last month represents the first glimpse of Mass Effect 3. As many have guessed, the third installment looks to feature something brand new to the series: multiplayer. [...]"

I hope it's true.

What do you think a multiplayer part should look like?

I think a good idea is that you can play coop with friends (the AI comrades).

And IGN posted it on their website too in case anyone is interested(though they just refer to Joystiq).

Since ME2's combat mechanics are the exact same as Gears of War,I think that if ME3 will have a multiplayer,it will really be something like the multiplayer of Gears of War.

Pretty sure this is the same source that was posted earlier today, and is really only a rumour. ME3 MULTI, DO NOT WANT!

Really, having someone else play with you would really take away from the personal appeal of the story. Having a separate mode however would be fine (if they did it well).

Multiplayer Effect 3 ftw, think of all the endless rpg's that would be so more fun with multiplayer..the 2 KOTOR games, Jade Empire, Morrowind, Dragon Age. I support it but only if they fully capture the perfect Bioware RPG first, that is the main focus afterall!

The forums are ALWAYS pissed. You should have seen the leadup to Mass Effect 2, you'd think the world was ending :?

It's the same thing with Dragon Age 2 now. Complain, complain, complain, game comes out, people love and/or hate it. The cycle continues

But how is gonna be the multiplayer? Doing missions with others? A free for all? A Mass Effect multiplayer can be very interesting but also can be a disaster... I trust Bioware to make the right choice.

If this multiplayer aspect is seperate from the main game, then i've no issues with it. If done right, a seperate multiplayer aspect could be interesting.

I was also thinking co-op, but I would only allow others to join me if they completed the campaign as Shepard first. I don't want to ruin someone else's gameplay experience.

Actually I think co-op maps should be unlockables and that you can only replay a mission with a friend if you both completed it once.

It's so seperate that I'm willing to bet it'll be on a third disc!

If it does end up being a seperate element, you may well be right!!  Certainly on the xbox 360 anyway.

Only if it doesnt affect the singleplayer in anyway possible. If we still get a long, epic rpg, with no resources wasted on the multiplayer and plently of side quests, I will be happy. I dont care for multiplayer, and in most cases it does affect the singleplayer. If this is true, I hope Bioware do it right.

A multiplayer component doesn't take much disc space since you use the single player resources, so I don't think there is gonna be a 3rd disc.

I hope it isn't true. Someone else said it, but BioWare has no real experience creating multiplayer games and they'd practically be experimenting with something very risky on their 3rd and final installment in an amazing trilogy.

Not to mention the budget would likely get stretched allowing for less singleplayer content. I'm not liking the sound of it tbh. :/

Could it work? Sure, but there's a lot of risk involved, so far it's been a very personal experience and I have a very hard time imagining a successfull multiplayer part here..

Ah damn it! I suck at Gears of War multiplayer.

Seriously though I'm cool with the idea of multiplayer and even if I don't like it I have a kick ass single-player to go though. Its a win-win.

While I dislike multiplayer, I might tolerate it on ME games outside of the main trilogy.

But in the third episode? I might not buy ME3.

Hmm an interesting idea, but one than can be very easily skewed. Here is my take on it:

1. It should be co-op only.

2.It should be up to three players, that's shepard and two squadmates.

3. Instead of having three different shepards at once, only the host will keep their custom-shep. The other two can choose from any squadmate they wish, so long as the host also has that squadmate in question. Otherwise, the chosen SM will be that paticular user's build for that SM.

4. Missions and side-quests will be much more difficult and complex, but much more rewarding.

Can't think of much else, feel free to add your to cents.

We are to be blamed for this, people. When ME2 came out and when BW staff were reading this forum (also when Mammoth walked the earth) there were several very loud trolls who trolled about it all days long. And we didn't counter-attacked them. Now we have to face the consequences.

We can't do anything about it, because ME3 was in development for a time now, and if they decided to implement multi-player then it's too late to change anything. So lat's just sit tight, relax and enjoy the ride.
