While I dislike multiplayer, I might tolerate it on ME games outside of the main trilogy.
But in the third episode? I might not buy ME3.

So your not going to buy the final chapter in an epic Sci-Fi storyline simply if it has an optional multiplayer component in it?

Stop the whining. Multiplayer can be extremely good in ME3 if its is a evolution upon ME2. You could easily see space for a multiplayer component in ME2, they just have to do it right and in no way change the singleplayer. Assassin's Creed did it.

If it is true, i'm not sure yet what I think about it. However, multiplayer in the style of Phantasy Star Universe or White Knight Chronicles might be good. That's basically the ability to have friends be your companions instead of AI. It would have to be seperate though, like PSU. Mass Effect is brilliant as a single player game.

Though if BioWare are implementing multiplayer, I would much prefer it be a game set in the ME universe but not ME3. There are so many things they could do with games inside this world that don't have to be ME3. I always kind of hoped Mass Effect would be a fake trilogy like Halo. Where they say 'oh you can have just 3 games' but then get bored and make more ;)

Since ME and ME2 are both single player, it makes sense to have 3 continue that.

The point here is: multiplayer takes away resources. I'm 99% certain that if we get multiplayer the quality of singleplayer will suffer for it.

As I've mentioned before, a vocal majority is seriously against multiplayer in ME3. Why Bioware might even want to put multiplayer in ME3 is beyond me. It detracts from the canon and needlessly wastes development budget and time. A separate spin-off game? Sure. I'm pretty sure the community as a whole is comfortable with that as long as it does not directly involve Shepard and co. (hence detracting from the canon).

Regardless, it's only a rumor. Joystiq's 'trusted source' could be that silly twitter message that has already been ruled as false for all we know. Whichever Bioware decides, I think it best to hold fanfare until the actual announcement, elsewise more of these repeated multiplayer/Mass Effect teaser/etc threads crop up. It's only a matter of time before this thread is locked and directed to the primary running Multiplayer/speculation thread.

.
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood in a prove to the contraty. It was released just 1 year after AC2, it had multiplayer and the singleplayer manage to be ever better than AC2.

I believe ACB and ME3  are very, very different games. Think about it, and above all think of ME3's role as the closing episode of a (narratively) very ambitious trilogy.

But are high quality games that were sp only. ACB changed that in only 1 year and it's singleplayer didn't lose a bit. No reason to think ME3 can't do the same, besides the generals worrys and fear of changes.

NOT interested in multilayer. For that I have COD. BTW if this is about ME3 I'll be some what disapointed. Because there is no need for a tease, we all know about ME3 already. I am looking forward to see a new IP.

I usually trust Bioware's decisions but this one has me worried if it's true. To the point I can't actually believe it's true.

Now, looking at the budget for TOR it is quite possible they will have the resources to pull this off, but I just can't see it happening. Adding MP to a game that lives or dies off it's SP is a very risky move if you don't balance the resources correctly, and there are barely any recent examples of a game that has pulled it off without letting the SP experience suffer.

Particularly with a shooter where balancing the MP and making it stand out against the many other MP shooters on the market can take up a lot of time and energy.

Bioware have always marketed the Mass Effect -trilogy- (not the franchise) as a single player series telling -your- Shepard's story. MP doesn't jive with that idea and you can't help but fear there has been a change of direction somewhere behind the scenes because of it. Should they be able to pull off a single player story of equal or greater depth, length and quality as ME 1 and 2 with added MP I certainly won't complain, but you just can't help but imagine areas of the SP will suffer (be it length, dialogue etc.).

This is compounded by the fact that many of us want to see them focus heavily on making the SP reflect as many of the choices we have made in the previous games, that alone is a herculean task considering the amount of permutations going into the third game, and it is just another reason to fear that companions and events will be written off in cameos, e-mails and the like.

Alas, I seem to have mislaid my optimistic hat today. Or maybe all my optimism is going into supporting DA2.

We can go and play cod if we want multiplayer. No multiplayer fore me3

Multiplayer for me3=less story development time=fail. And i only use fail when i'm serious because i often times find the word retarted. So I mean business.

How do you know that ? How do you even know if BW is going to develop the MP component ?

Lol why is everyone treating this as a fact? It's still a rumor, though not the least credible one.

We are to be blamed for this, people. When ME2 came out and when BW staff were reading this forum (also when Mammoth walked the earth) there were several very loud trolls who trolled about it all days long. And we didn't counter-attacked them. Now we have to face the consequences.
We can't do anything about it, because ME3 was in development for a time now, and if they decided to implement multi-player then it's too late to change anything. So lat's just sit tight, relax and enjoy the ride.

So it's just like how ME1 transitioned to ME2. A bunch of people shrieking and complaining and demanding certain things, so Bioware listened to them and ditched the things people liked to appeal to those complaints.

Happy, internet?

whaaa...whaaa...whaaa. Don't like it, don't buy it. Simple as that.

I, for one, would welcome the addition of a co-op component. If it's anything like Gears of War, I have no issues with it at all.

When will all hardcore RPG lovers figure out that there are no more RPG ONLY games? The merging of genres is the way it's gonna be. Game developers are in the business of making money and what better way to make money than making a game that has a wide ranging appeal rather than a game that only targets one small audience.

Ok now flame away...
