I just went through the new Tron Soundtrack and it suprised me how similar it's to Mass Effect OST.
It's not only about samples, tunes but its whole atmosphere that keeps you on the edge of pissing your underwear, getting raped by the creeps all over your back.
How do you guys think? It's not only those two pieces, but the whole album:

Indeed, you're right.

There's some comments under the songs that DP should be the ones making the OST for ME3. I think that a good rip doesn't qualify for that ^^

It sounds similar but maybe Daft Punk was inspired by Blade Runner, just like Wall of Sound.

It's very obvious in this video.

Pretty epic stuff right there......would fit in with Mass Effect 3 perfectly.....it is combining Mass Effect 1's music with the dark undertones of Mass Effect 2........!

See that Bioware? Mimic THAT for Mass Effect 3....combining the best of both!!

no not really. if you compare with other movie or game, sound is very similar. it is just coincident. you know what daft punk makes for music usually. honestly, that's not their style to make music. but since it is a part of franchise of movie, they had to make that way.

by the way, I just bought the game 'Tron evolution' three days ago. it is great game. very nice graphic effect. it has a good single player mode as well as MP (even though it is kind of repetitive job). it's cheaper, too. only $39.99 for PC. not bad, huh? you can get bonus character (Sam Flynn for MP mode), two free maps as DLC. you have to redeem code to get them. they are all inside of retail box.

^^^  maybe not the whole soundtrack... but I could deal with a finale by them.

It's definitely blade runner as a common influence. Also I wouldn't be surprised if the original tron score from the 1980s influenced wall of sound a little bit too.

Can't say if the Mass Effect OST influenced daft punk. Seems unlikely though.

Not just Blade Runner, but other kinds of early electronic music, including of course Vangelis but also Jarre and Kraftwerk and such. Both musicians are inspired and are adding their own talents to it.

Also, ME2 has a lot of grand scale space opera orchestral music, too :)

I think some of the stuff on there is very fitting but the music team we have are doing an excellent job.

As others have said, there will be common influences...

on a side note: on the orchestral side of things the Daft Punk soundtrack sounds a lot richer... like they actually used an orchestra, whereas Wall of Sound mostly sounds like they're using fake instruments/samples (I love the ME2 soundtrack btw, but that was the only thing about it that bugged me)

I love how the comment on the Recognizer video comes up immediately : "I'm Commander Shepard and I approve of this song". LOL

Blade Runner influenced both as well as Star Trek 2009 I might add. Listen to this.

Blade Runner is like the godfather of modern sci fi.

Seems it did. :)

From a great interview with the Wall of Sound gang

0ckeroid: In general, what works did you draw inspiration from when writing?

David [Kates]: Jack had suggested early on that we check out Vangelis's score to Blade Runner, and I was simply blown away by it. It was huge in helping us integrate the synthetic elements with the orchestral, and clued us in to the idea of instilling emotion into our themes. I had also previously done an orchestral arrangement for Video Games Live based on the score from TRON, so I was also very influenced by the harmonic structure that Wendy Carlos brought to that work. In fact, my entire thematic design in the Garrus level is based on that structure.

++++

And yeah--TRON Legacy rocks.

Yes, you're right, Wall of Sound only used sampled orchestration for ME. Unfortunately they don't have the budget for a live orchestra, but they did a very good job with what they could afford!

Yeah, I remember telling myself I knew I heard that vibe somewhere else. Is it me, or it sounds particularly like the music on Virmire? Particularly the beginning. Otherwise Blade Runner's soundtrack is brillant, as the whole movie.

Its hard to compare, without getting the same vibe when you have a setting in your head. I thought what Jack Wall did was great, I mean I actually have End Run (Collector Ship final mission) on my MP3 player and listen to it constantly. Yet, when I heard Deus Ex: Human Revolution theme, I said wow, Shepard would look so cool with this music in bg. LOL, all symphony-electronica gets compared to Daft Punk at some point, lmao.

I feel alone in my opinion that Blade Runner was rather boring and weird in a bad way.

Blade Runner is a flawed movie in a lot of ways, but its vision of the future, along with the soundtrack made it artistically significant.

I don't get people who say its the best sci-fi film ever made though. Its incredibly slow paced, has some bad dialog and acting, not to mention the plot inconsistencies in the earlier versions.
