Oh, and by the way, this version contains the full single player database resources!

what's meant by this? within the toolset i can't find single player files like mainchars nor items or areas. only dialoges an corescripts, when i manage to open up the single player module. am i missing something or missinterpret it?

Thanks Bryan.

Not the answers I had for but honest ones and I appreciate it.

I find 95% of my problems disappear instantly the moment I give up on my old v1 work and choose to start again. All the risks associated with the accidental import of old data disappears from my own mods too. I'll just have to avoid mods that where updated or made prior to 1.01 incase they bring with them some nasty surprises that affect my saved games.

I had hoped to keep my old work but clearly the current solution comes with more risks than its worth, so its better to move to 1.01 and use the B2B system and post suggestions for improvements to that rather than take a chance with older v1 files.

I do know lvl files seem to exist outside of the database so its not a complete loss.

Did you do the restore with the latest DB given to us with the new toolset? I am able to see followers, story related characters, and areas.

It should be possible to confirm whether any database's core plots are "good" or not by opening a few core plots in the toolset and checking their GUIDs in the object inspector. It'd be too tedious to check _all_ of them, but a quick sampling of the most heavily referenced ones (such as gen00pt_generic_actions, which should have a GUID of D5301CC1-DCC1-4D9D-9E55-5AD56C05C7A3) should be enough to be reasonably confident that you're clean. As you've noticed these things tend to get swept up in B2B creation in large numbers.

If you're wanting to double-check your own builder to builder load there's an easy way to ensure that your core plots weren't changed. When you B2B load all of the resources that get changed in the process get automatically checked out. So restore the new database (wherein everything starts out checked in by default), do your B2B load, and then filter your palette window to only show checked-out resources. If any core plots show up in the list of checked out resources that would indicate that they were changed by the B2B load. If that happens you can just restore your database to the default and try again.

Is there a list of known bugs and issues regarding to the Toolset ?

We're maintaining a list here: http://social.biowar...hp/Known_issues

However, since there's just been a new version put out most of the issues it's probably going to have are not known yet. I believe that all of the issues currently listed here have been resolved or have had workarounds developed (aside from the ever-popular "cannot connect to database" error message, which is unlikely to ever entirely go away since it's a catch-all that basically translates to "something went wrong with installing and setting up MSSQL server" - there's a huge number of reasons that can potentially happen).

3) Start rewritting the wiki instructions ( or encourage others to do so) on exporting of mods so the export with and without dependances at least are fully explained because I suspect that might be why some problems are appearing right now.

I'd like to add to this cleaning up the duplicated (though slightly different and sometimes just incorrect) wiki's that cover the same information.  Example: level editor.  I have 3 wiki's in my bookmarks for this, and I am sure there are more out there that I just have not found yet.

I'm about to run out, but here is the link for how to update the toolset.

EDIT - Just thought of something... What exactly is your situation. Are you a first time toolset downloader/installer, or are you trying to carry over resources you created in version 1.00. If the latter, then following the directions in the link I sent.

If the former, then I assume the resources would be loaded in the DB correctly, assuming you didn't uncheck the "Restore the default database" option during the installation.

I'll be back in a few hours, but I am sure someone else here will be able to help you when you respond to this.

Another problem is when people create WIKI pages, but don't add them to a main portal page. So, they're just floating out there in WIKI land, and no one will find them unless they do a search. But, that's another discussion for another thread Posted Image

I did have a lot of problems to get that database running with 1.0 and it didn't run with 1.1 because it was not able to restore the db. Even usage of Management studio failed because vista would not allow writing to the required folder.

The main problem is that MS SQL Server 2005 was not made to run on Vista or Windows 7 Systems or even X64 Variants. It is not compatible with UAC and folder rights those systems use (every folder within programme (x86) is write protected).

The conclusion for me was, after messing around with sql 2005 several hours today, to kick it and switch to SQL Server Express 2008. It just worked plain and simple and runs the toolset DB and the toolset can connect to it. Mainly because SQL Server Express 2008 has no Problems with Vista or W7 and will run without problem with UAC and all other rights management systems those have.

All I did was manualy create a server with the correct Tag  "BWDATOOLSET" and restored the DB Backup that came with 1.1 to it (naming the db correct of course)  using  SQL Server Management Studio (it will auto set the db to sql 2005 compatibility mode) . After that started the toolkit and it conncted instantly to the DB without any trouble.

Funny, I was about to ask if anyone had installed this with SQL Express 2008 and why that wasn't bundled instead.  SQL 2008 just works for so many things.

We bundled 2005 simply because it's the version we use internally so the toolset's had more testing with it. Mind you, we haven't tested _installing_ it much internally.

We've never heard a negative report from people manually installing 2008, so by all means give it a try if 2005 is misbehaving or otherwise not to your tastes. In future we're thinking of separating out the database installation step from the main installer to make it easier to try alternate versions (and hopefully to make troubleshooting the installation step much easier).

You can also do an upgrade from SQL Express 2005 to SQL Express 2008 and it will automatically carry over the Dragon Age database.

I couldn't do a backup or a restore because Vista didn't like SQL 2005. It all works fine now that I upgraded to 2008.

"Personally,  I got frustrated with it yesterday and decided to abandon 2005 on one machine and try to get 2008 running instead, hoping that it might have fewer issues.  After 2 hours fighting with trying to get SQL Server 2008 to even install on that computer, I abandoned that idea and went back to the enemy that I know..."

Guess that, together with more similar experiences, would be the reason.

Edit: I type too slow, or Bryan types too fast....

Edit: This post was written in response to Leopard's post.

Just shouting at them is not going to get the issues fixed, regardless of how severe your issues might be. Would you just walk into the Customer Service section at a regular store and yell at them if their product is broken? I don't understand why internet boards should be any different.

Having worked in retail for over 15 years I would have to say, yes...he likely would.  I never understood this behaivior but many people seem to think that the best way to communicate is to scream and yell, rather than explaine the problem and try to work together in finding a resolution.

Builder to Builder Backups.

Here's what I did, to successfully back my stuff up. I went to Tools -> Builder -> Builder To Builder Create. As far as what needs to be backed, I just sorted the list by the Owner Module column. That way, I could determine what was in my Sandbox module (the stuff that needs to be backed up), and what was in the Core Game Resources module, which is stuff I obviously didn't want to back up.

Then, I unchecked ALL rows. Then, I selected all the rows under the Sandbox module, hit the Check Selected box, and hit OK. Then, I just saved the DADBDATA file in the area of my machine where I keep all my backups.

Ticking only the new entries

As stated earlier, once you sort my Owner Module, this issue goes away.

Thanks Challseus

I did the same thing you did, only me New entries ran in to the thousand and had to be selected 1 box at a time. A real pain in the butt. Most where strings, why my mod which considers of a world map icon and some levels needs that many strings is a mystery.

I easily identified the resources i put in a folder, such as doors etc. But could not find anything related to maps, icons or the door links etc. I appear to have objects used in my mod, not the mod it self.

@giskard44 - if you select the first one, then scroll down to the last one and <shift> click it, then click on "check selected; it will check all of them at once.  I just did all my modules in 30 secinds.  Hope this helps to clear it up for you.  :kissing:

Okay, I've heard a negative report from a user regarding 2008 now. :)

Install over the current toolset, while following these directions if you want to keep your data.

I found, since I had done so little work I really wanted to keep, uninstalling the old and reiinstalling the new was quite painless.

Main Problem on 2008 is that it is quite picky regarding prequesits :innocent:

you need NET Framework 3.5 SP1, all Visual Studio Apps (Visual c++, C# etc)must have SP1 as well, Windows Installer 4.5 or higher and some other things as well.

It can be tricky if you don't have experance. Otherwise I've found installation quite easy (had to upgrade some packages). The main reason for me to change was no Problems with Vista (UAC and other restrictions).

If someone is running Vista or Windows 7 switching to SQL 2008 would still be the best solution in my point of view.

Any chance of getting (some) source files for the DLC? In particular I'd rather like to know exactly what the WK & Shale abilities do. I understand you can't give everything, but some stuff should be both useful and harmless to provide, no?

Yes. For some reason, the DB wasn't created. Follow the directions here for help.
