How can they be making games this fast, on top of all the dlc? It seems unreal to me, unless this news predates the actual release by a year or more.
I do like the premise of saving earth.
Unless they lied about all the "bridging dlc" and we're not gonna get that at all.

You would have thought the Salarians would have sticked out on that front. Shepard says in ME1 that the reason humans are so pushing, aggressive, and quick is because of our short life-span, but Salarians only live for about 40 years and are supposedly the sharpest race in the Galaxy.
And turians have comparable lifespans to ours apparently (a dev said so at some point)...

Now that you said that it makes sense... I just hope the game isnt so focused on humans.

so much for the System Alliance mighty fleet...
ugh... Fifth fleet better have been on patrol somewhere when they struck *unlikely*. How Hackett can not be in this game is beyond me at this point. Make concessions and get Henriksen onboard, EA... I know you can afford it.
we get a a typical overused scenario here , Earth attacked and down in a day and our ole hero gathering a coalition to take it back., (rushing through game again like in Me 1 with haste)
In Halo universe at least humanity did give a proper fight, and the player gets that feeling of desperation and tragedy (Reach) battling the overhelming odds, here its just an mission

They lied about DAO having 2 years of DLC so I wouldn't be surprised.

The funny thing is, humanity isn't very diverse genetically. We're reeeally homogenous (due to a population bottleneck circa 75000 years ago, or something like that)... Seems pretty absurd that the other races would be even worse than us!
I am in awe of your knowledge of the genetic structure of fictional alien species.

At least it'll still be the first time you see the actual trailer.I know I'm still going to be excited. Like, jumping out of my chair, probably doing a little dance around my living room kind of excited.
Well, I'm sure I'll get even more excited when watching the trailer, but I'm positive not as excited had I not heard this news. But you're way of thinking is right on, always look on the bright side, never dwell on the negative or could-have-beens

I'm gonna be in continual anticipation for the first meeting with the Turian councilor, especially if it's after Earth has been attacked. As Garrus would say "I'll beat him within an inch of his life if I have to," then again, it's tempting to do that anyway.

It had been since the beginning. The whole series including the backstory has been about humanity's place in the galactic society. Look at ME 1: First human spectre, attack on Eden Prime (human colony), human's find prothean beacon, humanity saves the galaxy.

Unless the Reapers show up out of Darkspace directly next to Earth they'll have to go through the Charon Relay, so they'll have to pass Arcturus station, which holds the Alliance Government and is guarded by the 1st and 5th Fleet (which includes Hackett and Mama Shepard for Spacers). It's highly unlikely that the Reapers would shoot past the majority of the Alliance Fleet and its seat of Government before they go for the juicy earthy centre. In that case, the Alliance would be without leadership and with its fleet reduced to shreds. So it would be up to Shepard and all the other races to save humanity's ass.
I can picture a kind of Wolf 359 moment, where the Normandy receives word from Hackett that Arcturus station is under attack and when the Normandy arrives they'll find the Alliance fleet in bits and pieces, so they board the Husk of the SSV Orizaba where they find the dying Admiral Hackett/Captain Shepard who tells Cmdr. Shepard that the Reapers broke through and headed for Earth.
Also, I don't think that all Reapers will go for the same target, they could easily attack Earth, Palaven, Thessia, Sur'Kesh and the Citadel at the same time. But what we heard so far is a promotional blurb directed to all gamers, not just the fans of Mass Effect. And to someone not attached to the franchise it sounds more urgent if Earth is under attack than if they were talking about "the centre of galactic government" or the "Council homeworlds". Earth sounds more urgent and personal, but that doesn't mean the Reapers aren't heading for the Citadel as well.

They have one team for each IP, and maybe they have one additional team devoted to dlc for each title, as well as another team for the mmo thats coming out.
Still, ME2 came out earlier this year and the sequel is ready to start advertising? Unbelievably fast.

Earth should be the very last level though. It's fitting to end it there I think. The Citadel....yeah another plausible candidate...but we started the fight there. This game has always been told from the perspective of the humans and how Shepard was elevating their place in the galaxy. It's a small piece to a bigger picture. I like the idea. Now Miranda will definately be a squad mate! You know she'll want to defend earth...with her new hubby.
Unless she's dead.

Still I think that since ME3 will probably be announced. tomorrow, someone at EA messed up big time and posted something they shouldn't have.
Still more DLC for ME2 BioWare. Please.
Also surprised no devs have commented yet. Usually by now, someone does, even if it just a, "wait until tomorrow" or "we can't say anything until tomorrow" bit.
Edit: Also can't wait to see how squadmates who died at the end of ME2 will play a part in this, but the announcement will be fine for now.

I must say I really liked that in ME1 we were working with other races as equals, but now we seem to be the master race in the galaxy...
But yeah... it's done now *shrugs*
One of Liara's complaints about humanity is that they strong-arm their way into everything and intimidate the other races?
Am I the only one who remembers this?
Nope. I already felt that ME1 had too much "Humans are special" in it.

It could be really interesting, depending on how they focus on it.
Do we see the invasion of earth as it happens? is it at the beginning of the game or the climax of the game?
Will it be told racconto style? Lots of possibilities.
I hope there's still DLC to hold us over, the wait is going to be a killer.
Oh, and I also hope they finally reveal if there's online or not. I don't particulary want it, but it would sure be fun to watch how the forums melt down.
