bets on this guy being a new squad mate... anyone?

I don't like him. He's boring and his romance is more like a bootycall than it is a tender emotional connection.

I can't believe they gave us this guy instead of bringing back  **insert random squadmate's name here**,  what bull!!!

The funny thing is, humanity isn't very diverse genetically.  We're reeeally homogenous (due to a population bottleneck circa 75000 years ago, or something like that)...  Seems pretty absurd that the other races would be even worse than us!

I am in awe of your knowledge of the genetic structure of fictional alien species.

I wouldn't have been as irked as much if they gave good reason for humans having superior genetic diversity. Diverse appearances and personalities are in no way conclusive proof for something like that. Mordin sounded like an idiot making assumpsions when he went on about that.

There's no possible valid reason for humans having superior genetic diversity. We were close to being wiped out, our numbers were so few that we were almost unable to reproduce to a larger healthy population again due to that genetic diversity bottleneck. If such a thing has happened to the other races in ME aswell, it could not have been much worse than our bottleneck.. thus making that diverse genetical make-up of humans utter bull****. :wizard:

Guy's got a serious case of Long Island Face.  Looks my my NYC cop brother in law.

He could be British (since there is speculation that the location is London, and most people in London are British :P).

Meh. Not a real big spoiler. Saw it coming.

And I think some people are missing the point by ME2 and this by like, a mile. Mankind isn't the one who will be the savior (well, sort of) but the one who needs to be SAVED. In ME2 Shepard helped the colonies and according to this you have to take Earth BACK. Humanity won't be able to save its own (and the rest of the galaxy after it obviously) and it's up to Shepard to unite the races against the reapers.

Same here. But I think Bioware could still release the DLC to bring in something new that could connect to ME3 and tie up some stuff in ME2... y'know, to keep the hype up? It would be good marketing  and hype generator anyway.

No. Bioware said that LoTSB marks the beginning of the bridging DLC. So we're not done.

Also in response to a post above - what makes you think that that soldier is a squadmate? Given the description, it could be some random marine fighting on earth when it's attacked. Don't jump to conclusions.

I for one am extremely disappointed that thus far in the unavailing of Mass Effect 3 that there has been no mention of Conrad Verner.

Maybe they will add him to it and make a big announcement that he wont be bugged in ME3. Image IPB

Bioware changes their mind about not being able to import shepard into ME3 if he died in ME2. Well not him actually cuz all of his ablities are transferred to Conrad Verner who becomes the main player.

Oh good God!

What? Its legit. Conrad Verner knows his destiny now.....

There's no valid reason for the whole genetic diversity. It's basically just a plot device to make it seem that humans are the most special beings in the universe and the Reaper wants them. There's no other reason for it in my opinion.

It's a cliche sci-fi trope.

Well, to be fair, he said that what diversity we do have had nothing to do with appearances and more to do with what's deep in the code - which is actually true in real life...

But, indeed, it's still strange that he implied that we were really diverse, when (from what I've heard from biologists in real life) we're remarkably samey for a species... What would be the odds of other intelligent alien civilisations being less diverse than us... but oh well, they've written it this way now..

EDIT: Beaten by a kazillion other posters

Seriously! When I read that, I actually got goosebumps. And then I went AW HELL NAW

The Reapers clearly don't stand a chance. They've got my enthusiasm and borderline hyperactivity working against them. :P

I never even played ME2 and I knew this was going to be the main thing around number 3. Of course they were going to make a beeline for earth, especially after their collectors got smacked aorund like that. Reapers just got their feelings hurt and they are apparently sore losers. Very sore losers...

And the other races have been space-faring far longer than humans, as well.

Harbinger pointing out reasons for the inferiority of other races' genetics were pretty baffling, I'd like to add. How are things like weak immune systems and short life-spans going to matter once a race is immortalized in a machine?

I'd like to point out that the reason I'm going on about this is because I care. Image IPB I love Mass Effect.

Oh, so they ARE doing the hype generator and good marketing route with the DLC to make ME3 more anticipating?

Bioware, you made a good decision! I hope the DLC Bridging brings some elements of the book into the game. I would like some hint of Grayson from the books.

Bear in mind however that traces of the Neanderthal genome have been found in ethnic Eurasian populations. This could have an effect on genetic diversity within humans.

A French person, a Chinese person and a New Guinean in a recent study all were shown to have a 1-4% match with the neanderthal genome.

I actually liked DA:O's storyline and objectives with uniting the different nations. I don't know if you guys remember before, but there was a guy claiming to be a Bioware writer who said that they would take the DA:O approach with ME3. This was also the guy who predicted the Liara DLC, although that was a given due to the files. But in regards to the DA:O similarities, he ended up being right I guess. Although it still could have been a lucky guess. :P

Sure, but didn't that scientist who made that claim state a very low percentage of a eurasian's dna would have this (if at all)?  And in any case, it doesn't really change the fact that we have very low diversity overall.

Unite the galaxy against the dark sp-Reapers. I did think that we would need to unite. Everyone need to get their head out of their ass lol. We'll just have to wait and see. Also maybe we'll have sex with our armor on.

It was 1-4% I think (however it could be more or less in other Eurasian people). But across billions of people 1-4% is actually pretty significant overall.

Maby the trailer will be set in places all over earth, basically showing us get our asses handed to us by the reapers on 7 continents. I think the reson it'll take a while for earth to fall is that the reapers arn't intrested in bombing us into extiction, they want to harvest us and on a world with billions of humans that takes time.
