It's obviously not much of a spoiler if it's in the game's "back o' the box" descriptor.

Yeah, but it's still a kind of twist. I wouldn't have guessed the Reapers would attack Earth, and it kind of sucks they let us know from the beginning. Kind of the suicide mission thing and the collectors in M2. I mean, why do they have to tell us this and make a lesser experience out of it? Why wasn't there some kind of unveiling the collectors abducting humans more progressively instead of directly giving it as the premise. They could just have said that human colonies are disapearing and Shepard must find a way to stop this. It's like they spoiled almost the whole story with their advertising. They never told us all the twists of ME1 from the beginning. Instead of making us discover everything by exploring some planets and hearing rumours and such (à la ME1), they tell you the whole thing from the beginning, weak story-telling is you ask me.

When you see all the pods during one of the collector ship missions, one of your squadies literally says they (the collectors/reapers) are going to target Earth.

Thing is, they needed humans for the human reaper, while they didn't know this, it was because of realizing how many humans were used.  Now that it is destroyed, it makes no sense for them to start from scratch when the Reapers are coming. Plus, the base may not even exist anymore and the Collectors certainly don't own it anymore.

And by a lot of time. I must type really slow :pinched:

I really hope we won't learn humans are Prothean or something. Frankly, I'm not too fond on the whole emphasis on the humans ME2 brought. I like subtelty in my sci-fi in general. While Halo 3 was a bit annoying with the whole "saving every last man, woman and child", at least the emphasis weren't on humans. You may find I'm at the wrong place for not liking big, epic space operas, I just don't like that type of obvious saving the world, you're the single most important person type of thing. Master Chief is a killing machine, but Shepard is just a human better than the majority of people. ME1 wasn't so much about Shepard being the single most important person in the whole galaxy.

The only thing is, that for some reason, in some way, humans ARE better (In regards to fighting/ getting things done) than the other galactic races at this time. Bioware is subtlely teeling us this, with the Prothean experiments, the Reaper acknowledgements/freakin' harvesting! The rise of humans on a scale no other alien race has seen before in history.

We ARE special and Earth IS special. Why were the Humans left untouched by the Reaper army? Would the Protheans really not try and protect organic life when they knew the reapers had arrived? It was said that it would take years for reaper domination of the Galaxy....face it guys,

Earth is important, in more ways than one.

You are playing a human, and you are human. Therefore humans will play a larger part of the story de facto. Do you think I'll give a **** if the Asari or Turian homeworlds get attacked? The answer to that riddle is no.

That last argument may hold for you, but it doesn't for most of us. It's like saying, I'm born in the USA, so I don't give a **** if Canada is attacked.

Yep....think about it though....something is there.....Protheans wouldn't just watch humans develop for nothing....they left insurance I'm sure.

random, but perhaps humans ARE the weapon

I figured they were making a human reaper so that it'd replace Sovereign and with the collectors it might make another run at the Citadel and reopening the trap door to dark space. However since Shepard stopped that from happening I guess this is the "another way" Harbinger told the collector general when everything was going to hell.

Still I hope it won't entirely be taking place in our solar system and the galaxy. I'd like to see Shepard beat the Reapers back and then follow them into dark space to stop the threat permanently.

There's putting emphasis on humanity and putting emphasis on humanity. Humans are a bit too glorified for me, they feel as being pretentious to me. Sure, I'd care about humans before asaris, but it feels as the human's role is a bit too important for my tastes. I mean, it's all about how humans are essential to stopping the reapers. It's just that I don't like how it feels, too obvious. And that's my overall gripe with ME2, everything is too obvious, too in the face and lacks subtelty. Saving the world is nothing new, but the quality of the story relies on its storytelling and how it all builds up to the ultimate goal rather than the originality of that ultimate goal. And in ME2 (and ME3 it seems), it feels like they shoot you almost everything in the face from the get go. Characters may be well written as the backstory, but the main story feels lacking originality in how it's conveyed.

You know this would be probably better story material - humans not caring about other species and by that dooming the humanity.

Haha what if when the Reapers hibernated, they rested on top of the Mother Reaper, a construct so large, it could run over planets....would be crazy.

But anyways...I think that a good possibility too is that teh Humans ARE the weapon. Protheans could have implemented some type of genetic code within the Dna that could activate upon a certain event or by unlocking some construct........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, I just got a thought hold on....

Since they want to continue the Mass Effect franchise I don't think that the Reaper thread will be solved permanently. Reapers are part of the ME universe and taking that completely away would leave a certain purpose lacking.
I think Shepard will somehow prevent this cycle and drive the Reapers back, but they'll be back in 50.000 years - not even a remote threat for present generations, but enough to give a rise to paranoia and machinegod worship in certain quarters.

Holy mother of Oz. Earth gets raped at the start of the game! Dayum! I sure hope this isn't another DA:O story though. I don't want to spend 80% of the game sorting out other people's problems to get them to join me. I already did that in ME2. Give us another collecting clues and solving the riddle story as in ME1.

Shepard IS special because the Prothean gene is hidden within him! Guarantee...there will be some type of launch code/receptor thing on Earth, hidden away somewhere...and only YOU, SHEPARD, can unlock them. Now, what do you do? Do you use it to destroy the Relays? Do you aim it at Reapers, at planets......do you destroy everything, ending the cycle? Or....if all the Reapers are in teh Sol system, maybe you trap them there, hoping you bide more time for the other races....either way...something big regarding Shepards decision is about to happen ON Earth!

No, since the trailer stills we've seen so far are set in London (Houses of Parliament to be exact), I don't think the focus will be on America.

What if too....what if the reapers were preparing for something. What if the original species that ascended into the hybrid Old Machine knew that there was something worse out there? What if the only way to defeat it was to construct more and more Reapers? What if they were doing the "right" thing in a way by doing this so that organic life CAN one day be safe. Because, if you read between the lines....Reapers don't end organic life, not all of it, they preserve some of it...hoping to defend it when the time comes.

The reason why that would be lame is that it would completely contradict ME2, where EDI points out that the Collector DNA only matches the Prothean DNA. If Humans or even just Shepard shared genetic strings with the Protheans, it would have been noted by now, since apparently EDI does have Prothean DNA as a comparison group.

If they want to ensure my Shep does everything in his power to bury this guy... cast Affleck as the voice-actor.
