Still no word on a patch? Shocking.

Some, if not most of the game bugs mentioned here have been 'fixed' by mods. Silverite mine bug, elven boots, Find Vitals, etc etc. I don't know why y'all haven't found them as they've been available for quite some time.
My game is extremely modded and ran very well with my old computer (which I used up until last week). If you don't know where to find some of the 'fixes', check for the links in my bioware blog (all the mods I use...they are all linked there, too). I had all the settings inside CCC maxed, and inside the game graphics maxed, too, except for in-game AA.
Old computer stats - Game worked perfectly but FPS slowed down in three places only.
Intel Quad Core CPU 2.4 GHz
Vista 32-bit
ATI Radeon 5770
4 GB ram
Screen resolution: 1600x1200 (4:3)
(game ran three threads on my quad core)
New computer stats - game working perfectly
CPU : Intel Core i7 Extreme 980X (Gulftown) @ 3.33 GHz (6-core)
RAM : 24576 MB DDR3 Triple Channel (24 GB)
MB : ASUS Rampage III Extreme
GPU Type : Radeon HD 5770 *
Sound : ASUS Xonar Essence
Drive : OCZ Vertex 2 180GB SSD
Drive : Samsung HD203wi 2TB
Drive : Fantom 2TB
Windows 7 64-bit Professional
Screen Resolution: 1600 x 1200
(game runs 11 threads on my 6-core)
* waiting for radeon 6990 to be released 1st Q 2011

I also know that NO (ZERO) BioWare resources are being dedicated to any more work on DAO. The focus is on DA2 and beyond. It's been that way since at least last August, with the need to have to go back and develop/test/release Witch Hunt ver 1.1 only making it more urgent that they move on.

And here I like the Eclipse engine a lot BETTER than Unreal3.dwiestopy wrote...
u r lucky one, inclemecy. I cannot finish the game because I`m stuck in Denerim. Desktop crash all the time. I just gave up. It`s a pity Bioware didn`t use unreal engine like in mass effect. Mass runs perfectly
I hate the restricted view of ME, and am glad they didn't use that one as the platform!

I am extremely competent with computers , and yet a year later, I STILL cannot finish the game.
The disgrace is the way in which EA/Bioware have not only released it in that state, but then abandoned the game and subsquently their loyal followers (built upon great former titles KOTOR, Jade E etc).
Unfortunately the state of gaming has been in a steady decline the last 5 years or so as more and more developers are swallowed by the large publishing giants and the main focus becomes WOW factor to sell the maximum amount of units (see direction of Mass Effect). Much less support is needed for a streamlined game and thus their profits increase.
The bottom line is EA/Bio have their eyes on the next 'cash cow' and already have already milked DA:O for all it's worth with the DLC.
One of the main problems is the younger gamers don't know any better. They defend their latest 'EPIC' game to the death, not realising that they are perpetuating the downfall of quality gaming.
I shudder to think what the state of games being released in another 5 years down the track will be like if people are willing to pay for poor, buggy and broken products now; and then line up eagerly to pay for more of the same.
As the EA directors are laughing all the way to the bank, so ensues the downfall of gaming. . .

...only if you continue to buy their products. Show the developer that "moving on" from DA:O in its current state is unacceptable and don't buy the sequel.
I couldn't agree more, unfortunately there are way too many insane fanboys on these forums and/or xbox 360 owners that gleefully ignore all problem for whatever reason. On the other hand 360 owners don't see many technical issues, scripting issues yes, but not random crashes/memory leaks, so it's unfair to group them with the fanboys who are a whole other story.
In short, moving on from DA:O won't happen because we're outnumbered. I haven't pre-ordered DA: 2, nor will I buy until I'm satisfied it is treated better than the first game.

Have EA/Bioware made any comment as to whether or not there will be a new patch to fix things?

After the 1.04 patch was released, one of the Bioware community "representatives" stated that they were not done patching DA:O. It was neither the first nor the last lie told by a Bioware employee on these forums.

It seems that I found a sure fire way to initiate Velannas quest. Without gifting her with anything and without leaving the Wending Wood at all, I went into the mines, and after the Dragon Thralls, I traveled to Amaranthine, then immediately vigils keep. 6 times I went through the mines doing a bunch of differnt things different ways and each time on the way back to the vigil fomr Amaranthine I got the encounter

I agree with the frustration on the original post. The game still has too many issues and I'm running on 1.04. I unfortunately run Windows 7 64bit which seems to attract it's own problems. I have 15+ years working in IT and this game is a struggle to get working.
Bioware have some great games but they do release them with plenty of bugs/issues. I really wish they'd get their act together.

My game frequently crashes (20 times since 28th December). The trigger point to me is opening the character page, or the inventory. It wont happen everytime but it happens too frequently, in or out of combat.

I have been running the game on Win 7 64bit for almost a year, now. Not a problem...has to be some other conflict (driver, software, etc.) in your system.

Unfortunately, the info you provided doesn't give us anything to help you with. Based on what you posted, you should have ZERO problems depending on drivers, other software, windows updates, etc. THere are just too many variables. Try posting a DXDIAG log.
Everything you've posted is simply nonsense. Sure, it might be stable for you, but just because YOU don't have problems doesn't mean it is the fault of the end-user. Explain to me this my good man, if you will, why on earth was everything okay up until patch 1.03? I'd changed no hardware, kept all drivers up to date, defragged... blah blah blah, (all the extraneous prattle that you said we didn't do) and the bastard still crashed.
Oh and guess what, I also reformatted, TWICE! Please don't speak to us like idiots, most of us have gone through more b.s with this game than you can imagine, mostly involving ridiculous workarounds that are often red-herrings.

As for the other, more rational, poster above, please copy/paste your dxdiag so we can take a look at your system.
Just found this great post by Gorath. Might be of help to some of the gamers with patience.

Gorath spouts the same nonsense in thread after thread while accusing people of making too many threads when he himself says the same tired ****e in every thread he posts. Yes I know discrete video cards don't work, and that's the reason I'VE NEVER BOUGHT A SYSTEM WITH ONE! While a lot of it is good... y'know, if you're stupid... it does nothing to help with someone like me who ALREADY DOES half the stuff you're accusing some of us of not doing. Stop tarring people with the same brush, we're not all hysterical jack asses who don't listen. There's no point in me listening to what you or Gorath have to say because I already do that, I've been doing proper system maintenance for longer than you've been on this planet. Same goes for a lot of others who have been doing as I'm doing.
And trust me when I say I've been in threads, given my specifications and the problem I'm having and you know what the response was? NOTHING! Not one single solution, most of the time just drowned out with useless suggestions like yours.

Some people get annoyed when they get talked down to, or told that they must be stupid because "my system has never crashed, so therefore your machine must be configured wrong. You might find people more receptive if you talk to them, rather than down to them.
I have the odd crash, usually when exiting an area. During the loading of the new scene it will crash on rare occaisions. And my computer according to Gorath, should barely run the game. Other than lagging in major battles, and when I really throw the graphically intense spells around, it runs along nicely.
So, each system is different. If every variable was the same it would be nice, but we are talking computers, not consoles.
But to play company shill and insist that the only problems are operator-caused or bad hardware-caused is not helpful.

For you, maybe. Have you tested every possible system configuration and operating system? I have re-installed drivers, re-installed the game, re-installed Windows, and nothing has made any bit of difference. It is great that the game is stable for you, but don't assume the same for the rest of us.Hammer6767 wrote...
