They treated Shepard like crap and you say its fine that maybe fine in your Shepard's mind . But Bioware did not give us who hated what those clowns did to our Shepard any real way to respond to them.
I was only refering to their military and fighting capabilities (and leadership) that would lead to their promotion to Spectre status. There is no need to bring up their treatment of Shepard, that's a whole different discussion which I honestly don't care about.

I know, right? I guess people think that if a character doesn't make puppy-dog eyes at you regardless of your actions, they "suck". Personally I think Ash/Kaidan had every right to call Shepard out on Horizon, and Tela Vasir on Illium, for that matter. Shepard is working with a KNOWN TERRORIST ORGANIZATION that the Virmire Survivor actually witnessed in action. Not to mention that the last they knew, Shepard was DEAD. So given all that, I think some skepticism on their part is perfectly justifiable. But to realize that requires the ability to actually think about things from a point of view other than one's own, so it's no surprise that people still b¡tch and moan about how "Ash was mean to me on Horizon STFU!" Like I said above, I was refering to their fighting/leadership capabilities anyway, which really has nothing to do with their handling of Shepard, a completely personal affair. But it is rather annoying when people bring up their actions to Shepard as a reason they are 'bad'. I don't have any special love for characters but I don't have special hate either.

So finally people get their wish of working with another Spectre for longer than 15 minutes and now they complain that it is VS? Huh ...
While I do agree that I feel that VS is not ready for something like this in ME1, VS had a lot of time to improve and by ME3 is probably ready. We cannot judge them on a single conversation in ME2 where they have seen their supposedly dead for 2 years Commander who acts like coming back from dying is nothing.
Also while Spectre's need to be elite not all of them have to be Shepard's or Saren's level of awesome. There will always be a top dog even among the best of the best. What I'm curious about is how they will handle Liara/Shadow Broker plot though I'm glad she is back
Thank you, you summed it all up perfectly. VS is likely to be the best in the Alliance by the point of ME3, making them, like Shepard was at ME1, the best candidate for the next Human Spectre.

Still feels weak, after everything they've said that's demanded of a Spectre.
How is it weak? Please actually come up with something to back up your statements.
What about the VS makes them incapable of taking up the mantle of the next human spectre? What is 'demanded' of Spectres that VS can't meet?
