Has anyone actually said anything else?
we have a few previews on this forum all of which said they enjoyed the new combat as well i do believe

One of the most negative posters on this forum (Monica83) played it at Lucca Games.

It comes down to people's preferences and expectations, that's all really.  Some folk'll like it, some won't - there's nothing odd about it to me.  Even the people who only think they won't like it and will, and the people who think they will like it, but won't.

the only thing I dislike about the new combat is the apparent low framerate of animations shown in the footage. It looks clunky for the sake of looking cooler and faster. I also dislike the "flashing beams" that come out of your weapon when you strike with a special talent, it looks like those old shinobi games where a sword slash unleashed a fire wave with a crappy midi sound attached to it.

Now that's a valid criticsim,
although i kinda like the epicness of seeing hawke jump 20 feet in the air  to finish an enemy.

I definately dont

Origins also had a somewhat sylized finisher system, so it's not to much of a change, it's just more common
I loved doing blackflips off of a high dragons head personally. :o

Monica played a demo and was decidedly unkeen. But I'd definitely want salt with that.

gahhhhhh ughhhhhhhh.

Its an opinion. Yes we havent played it but, I have played games that look LIKE what DA2 is looking like, and cant say I like that direction. So it is a persons oppinion on what kind of combat you prefer. You call it better and not dumbed down. Others call it Worse and simplified.

Both of them can be right, because niether are based in facts

but we have previews would those allow us to base our opinion off facts?....I don't remember anything calling it dumbed down and from what the devs tell us the hardcore fans who came to dragon age gaming both and actually tried it enjoyed it as well.

would they tell us anything else?

Would you believe them if they did? most dissenters just get dissmissed as whiners and crybabies

Why does she dislike French fries? I mean, what kind of person would dislike French fries anyway?
And yeah, she actually dislikes them, however hard it is to believe.

i love potatoes in general though, roasted, fried, baked, boiled, you name it^_^

Yeah I'm gonna need a heaping dose of salt seeing as how all she said was that she played it, and then continued saying the same things she always says.

Depends on how they word their dissent.  The opposite is true of fans and supporters who get dismissed as boot lickers or fanboys, as well.

Not most. Just a vocal minority.

It's certainly interesting to see this thread come up again but from the other direction.

I like what I have seen/played of the new combat style, but I liked a Origins as well. The two styles are not so dissimilar really, and I tend to find people exaggerate aspects of DA2's combat that they believe to be negative whether intentionally or genuinly because that is what they think it looks like.

Well what else would you call them?
You can't just re-release the same game with a new story, im sure most of us would agree that origins combat atleast needed some sort of tune up.

I wouldn't call them anything?  Actually, I have called  them "conservatives" or "reactionaries" but in those cases they were attempts to be descriptive, not dismissive.

Aesthetically, I think the new combat looks utterly ridiculous and comical. I have no idea how it will actually play. I'm willing to give it a chance, but given the overall direction they seem to be going with DA2, I am quite skeptical.

Seems to me the the real 'hardcore fans' are story-driven fans rather than 20-ft high finishing leaps fans.

Seems to me that anyone claiming to either be a or label the "real" or "hardcore" fan ought to be smacked with a large fish.

I have to disagree with that. I found Origins combat to be close to perfect and would have been happy if they had kept it the same for DA 2.

That being said, I AM looking forward to the new combat system and seeing how badass my mages, theives, and the inevitable warriors, can be:)

edit: Upsettingshorts- your avatar is seriously freaking me out:blink:. Who the heck is it, where did it come from, and could you put some shades on it because it's eyes are peering into mysoul:crying:

I'd go with "overstylised". It looks a lot like the animatic, funnily.

I still don't understand why people are judging the entire game based off of the combat aspect. Sure, the animations are different, but the best things about Dragon Age are the RPG elements, such as decision-making and reactivity. To tell the truth, if I saw a trailer showing the gameplay of Dragon Age: Origins, I wouldn't be too impressed. The combat is alright (sometimes even fun), but it isn't the greatest.
