Also, who suggested giving the female party members pants?
Hell no.

Untrue Maria, I actually love playing and have been modding DIablo 2 +exp for...well since about 2002-ish. Though actually running a full on conversion mod since late 03...I think. Been a long time I lose track. At one point I had the whole character system converted over to a 3E DnD style setup with over 54 'feats' and a bunch of the classes represented in some fashion or another. Was a bit to convoluted though and the way I had to handle classes ended up making to many imbalances so I trashed it and started over heh.

Anyways believe me when I say 'click-fest' with a bit of love in my words, even if I also like the auto-attacking of DAO just as much. Its my conflicting views mangling up things. Personally I think the auto-attack and 'click-to-attack' should be a menu option, and not in the radial menu on consoles at all. Should be a PLAYER choice, not console/PC pre-defined choice. Doing otherwise seems a tad silly. I can understand having auto-attack default for PC, and button-mashery console default but past that yeah... silly not to include it as a toggle on both.

The much vaunted 'teleport' attack is just flicker, but that little detail seems conveniently forgotten most of the time.

The dash attack isn't a teleport.

Because when people don't like something it is very easy for them to forget facts.

Because right now it looks fake, exaggerated, corny, and unconvincing.

Just as long and the story kicks butt, we'll be fine......well, we would be if we could give the female party members pants! lol

Just to make things clear here, it is only Isabela who isn't wearing pants (rather a short dress). Isabela aka the pirate lady who has been known for her seductive qualities and who seems very happy with her sexuality. I can't think of a better look for her, and I have seen much worse outfits in games before now.

Aveline is positively masculine (she is literally based off a male body model if I recall correctly), and dressed first in a distinctly un-sexy farmer style outfit before changing into a full body covering set of what appears to be Templar or city guard armor. Meanwhile Bethany is dressed in either a typical Mage's robe or a long dress with only her significant bust perhaps drawing your ire, although it should be noted that some women out there do have large breasts so regardless of whether DA2 has too many women with that size chest it seems a little unfair to hold it against Bethany specifically.

OT: I actually think the most common reason people don't like the new combat is because they havn't seen a good enough gameplay trailer yet. But we'll see when they finally release a PC gameplay trailer with a focus on tactics.

Everyone will love combat once the game ships. Isabela not wearing pants + flashy rogue acrobatics + pause button = profit.

Let me clarify here. Faster is not bad. I love fast twitch gameplay. But from what I've seen of DA2 (all of about 4 seconds) I can only assume. It looks stilted and unfinished.

I'd love to be proved wrong. Good real time gameplay like Origins, or good fast twitch gameplay is fine too. I don't care. I just don't know what it is yet.

I'm not too keen on the idea of rogues "flipping around" as it was put. They are going to look like leather- clad Power Rangers, and the Darkspawn and Qunari are the new Putties :P.

That's what I imagine rogues "flipping around" will look like :P.

I feel the need to point out BioWare generally never releases gameplay videos, or at least doesn't until very, very close to release. I think ME2 was the first time I really remember there being any. But, then, I never really scrounged the news drip for DAO info.

I think it's just the arms that come from a male model. Which is kind of creepy if you think about it.

Aha, yes I just found the thread I first read about it in and realised my mistake. Still, my point stands!

@Maria: I knew I had a reason to be optimistic, I had forgotten he had actually given details as to what the video would be like. I half expected the current interview vids to be what he was alluding to.

Well, let me say this. It's a good  idea to show what people will be buying well in advance, because that's what the rest of the industry is doing. They're great and all, but...

Not sure I find the 'male arms' creepy. Just funny they somehow couldn't get a buff chick to model the stuff off of? I mean c'mon there's body building ladies out there, or even just strong athletic girls with buff arms like Aveline has. Being the lover of ladies in general I'm all for a shehulk Aveline, buff chicks rock. Course I'll say and agree with just about any kind of lady body.. women = <3

Bah! Origins walkthrough videos narrated by  then Exec. Producer Dan Tudge. Released in October 2008 back when Origins was slated for PC release in March 2009. Thats at least 5 substantial gameplay videos they'd shown just by the end of October 08 when it was slated for a March release not unlike DA2.

Its a moot point now, but its odd given how most other games coming out early next year have already had a good deal of material released and still, DA2 has next to nothing of substance out there.

Indeed I am.

At this rate though, I'll believe it when I see it- and certainly hope its some PC footage of substance and not just a blurb like in the developer diary. Something like those videos Dan Tudge narrated or something like Creative Assembly always does with their Total War Battle Reports- showing and narrating actual gamepla and highlighting specific features. And Shogun 2 is coming out 1 week after DA2.

Aesthetically, I think the new combat looks utterly ridiculous and comical.

Shuffling around is better?  You must really hate most games with stylized combat.  No more ridiculous than KOTOR and Jade Empire.

I'd have to say that the sad (or comical, depending how you look at it) part is, Jade Empire actually managed to look tons better despite both coming out years earlier and dealing with the subject in very similar manner.

It's just because the animations here are actual animation. They flow smoothly, there's sense of weight, and even exaggerated feats feel quite natural because of it. DA2 just seems to lack that and that is what mostly makes it feel "ridiculous and comical". To me, anyway.
