If Bioware had unlimited resources and time, sure, I bet we'd be getting a lot more outfits for each companion than we are. Unfortunately, this is the real world and the real world has limitations. I'm ok with the compromise they've came up with for DA 2.

Just going to throw my support to you. Again, this isn't a JRPG.

But that's why I said "strikes me."  I understand the choices offered in those games were significant to some, to me they were pretty unsatisfying.

You just never tried to put Wrex in the Phoenix armour.

I did. It was GLORIOUS. My entire party was pink, except Garrus who gets the angry kitty creamsicle armor.

I'd never change my clothes either if I were trying to be forced into a Libertarian's Cowl or godawful back deforming leather armor or a lime green metal dress.

With this Dragon Age 2 system, they've created unique armors and body types for each character adding more depth to their personalities and have created individual animations for these characters (or so we've seen). This allows for more personalization to these characters, Isabela's mannerisms can be different than Varric or Bethany. Characters will remain "themselves" at the cost of you not being able to put Varric in a chantry robe or take off Isabela's clothes because you think it's funny.

And if I don't like the chosen outfit for the companion, because I don't feel it's appropriate for them? They don't get used, simple as that.

The real issue at hand is your opinion on it. Do you honestly believe switching the appearence of a character is fully worth having everybody act the same? Look the same?

They don't have to; what makes you think that Bioware would have to use the exact same body meshes for Isabela that they use for Bethany or FemHawke to make those of us that would like a wider variety of armor choice for the companions happy. Sure, it would be more work in the short term (and it would probably force them to delay the release) but wouldn't pleasing more of the player base be a win-win situation?

Why would you ever want to do that? And why wouldn't it? Varric's open shirt is still the best thing currently revealed about the game!

Anyway there is nothing prudish about wanting people to be equiped as befitting their class/role, I just happen to think Isabela's current outfit suits her nicely. The outfits Aermas suggested would suit her too, and I lament them not being able to add more outfits to the game (seemingly).

I mentioned prudishness in my post because a few posts have cropped up expressing disapproval at Isabela's outfit purely because of how it appears and not down to anything relating to suitable equipment. Presuming you are referring to my post it wasn't aimed at you (or anyone) anyway, so apologies if I offended you at all. I just find it odd that people judge someone so harshly by their clothing, and suggest they 'cover up' or they won't be friendly with them etc.

I love that you said 'Ra' forbid by the way.

I think the adoption of unique body models for companions in DA:2 is an improvement over the approach used in DA:O. I think losing choice in armor selection is regretable but I would rather have distinct body models.

Seriously though, I can't see how DA2 is a regression of the portrayal of women in computer games. They based Aveline off of a male model for starters and it really is only Isabela who is dressed in any way that could be considered 'inappropriate' by the more prudish players, considering her background I consider her outfit very much in keeping with her personality anyway.

It is not prudish to not want to have Isabela flashing her ass-cheeks at you during her rogue flips.  If they made a male companion that was wearing nothing on his nethers but a loincloth, would that not disturb a few hetero males who just didn't care to see the junk with such regularity and at inopportune moments?

No.Varric's open shirt exposing that chest hair. Do. Not. Want.

Ah. See I'd have preferred her wearing some booty shorts and a tight shirt. The flap is just there begging to be grabbed or snagged onto something. It also in my mind is just weird that someone who fights with "quickness and wit" would have loose bits hanging about. (Same with her hair and that headscarf). :D

Frankly I probably won't recruit her but that's more to do with the fact that she seems to be somewhat Zevranish to me and...well I didn' like Zev. I might giveher a chance but she's not going into battle with me in that getup. And yes I understand the whole clothesbiast thing. People do judge rather harshly on appearences. I'm not going to pretend I'm too enlightened to do so.

Anyways I'm fine. If you weren't mentioning me then it's all cool.

Ah. Years in the Yugioh fandom lead to that.

I honestly don't know what they base deadlines upon, but I would assume that it's not something they can move without sizable issues. For one, you're firing your marketing budget into the sun. I'm sure they would love to add lots of unique outfits, but clearly it's not something they can practically do.

Yeah, because I'm sure the staff at Bioware is sitting at their desks pulling their hair over how they're going to FORCE you to use EVERY SINGLE COMPANION DAMMIT.  They don't care if you have a half-baked reason for not using their companions.  Or even a fullly-baked one.  There's always going to be someone on here saying "I don't like this companion's voice actor/fake accent/hairstyle/clothing/shoes/backstory/attitude!  I KILLED THEM AS SOON AS I SAW THEM THEY SUCK!!!" and it means nothing.

They're not here to "please the player base".  They're here to make a game.  It's only a win for them if they would actually benefit (in terms of profits--and keep in mind making the game THEY want to make is part of their profit).

Considering how many people they'd likely ****** off by delaying the release, I doubt that making a few cosmetic changes could qualify as a "win" in that scenario.

Sure, which is why they definitely need to add it. Maybe when male mage casts a spell, a gust of wind causes his robes to flap up.

Of course it isn't. And a woman who isn't worried about dressing the way Isabela does doesn't mean it is turning into one.

The main character in Vagrant Story fought in assless chaps, and that's one of my favorite video games:wizard:

No it wouldn't be a win-win for them. More work generally means more cost, which affects profitability. Schedule delays also have an associated cost. My guess is that the project team wants to stay on budget and on time.

*squints at the rant*

We aren't talking about something that we had no control over before, like VO or story, rather something that was possible to modify before and no longer will be.  Taking away player choice means you have fewer options to make the game suit you versus what suits some artist at BioWare.
