And yet we have already seen that several companions have multiple outfits, so who is to say that they each won't possess at least one model that suits your tastes? True but you had some choice in DAO. I'm stuck with the hideous/silly outfits without even a choice.
Because the companions having multiple outfits are the exceptions not the rule.
And true we've only seen a handful but judging from the whole art direction I'm pretty "meh". So maybe I'll be lucky and find 3 outfits I deem decent.

Collecting 10 different leather armours that all look the same (WHOOPS THE STUDDED ONE IS BRIGHTER) is better than have armour that looks awesome.
I'm sorry, there seem to have been some sort of misunderstanding.
I was being ironic.
Are you also downing shots?

No, you've seen them in what....cut scenes? I'm not saying they won't be there, only that we don't know either way as of the moment.

Let's assume a hypothetical scenario here. Let's say you liked, or even loved most if not all of the unique but fixed outfits in DA:2. Would that change your opinion or not?

What do you think of fixed companion outfits?
I'm quoting the original post because I don't want to get caught up in someone else's argument. I'm sure I'll cover some points already made and some already refuted by those who know what the opinion of others should be.
I like them, they provide a recognisable style that tells me things about their personality through the details. A defined and unique silhouette is important in creating the visual impact of a character. I can't say as I will miss the chance to equip any character with any armour, I don’t feel the desire to play dress up with any character other than my own in the same way as I don’t feel the need to dress anybody else I meet.
I noticed some fan art the other day done in a chibi style, obviously with a stylised face, but Carver was instantly recognisable from the design of his shirt and the silhouette that armour creates. Other than Morrigan that opportunity is something that simply didn't exist in DA:O.
Thank you, Liana.

So.. is it better to have hideous choices or hideous non-choice? They can't design outfits that everyone is going to like, that's just impossible regardless if they are using the DA:O system or the DA 2 system for clothing.
I guess.. I mean, yeah, I see the lack of choice as being bad but then, personally, I like the look of the outfits so far (especially Bethany's outfit with all the different materials and the way she's not wearing one of them generic and boring Circle robes but something more practical minus the cleavage of course).
And where is my shot glass? Don't make me go get my double shot glass.
Also, I totally agree with everything Liana said in her on-topic post that I am too lazy to go back and quote. Spot on.

No. The lack of choice would still bother me. Me liking the outfits just means that I can ignore it more instead of sighing every five minutes.

True, you're absolutely correct in that for all we know those outfits could be restricted in their usage. (Although it seems rather odd to commission a high quality character model when it will only be used in a handful of events - though that's what they did with Cailan's armor before RTO.) My point was that because we have yet to see all of them, at least from what we can infer, we shouldn't automatically jump to conclusions about how poorly they all must look. *shrug*Wicked 702 wrote...

That's a quote from the fifth episode of the DA 2 podcast and it's been twisted around to mean even the opposite of that before. I'm not sure what to believe on that front.

...I didn't find all the armor in DAO ugly that's my point. The armors I liked would go on the NPCs. I had that choice. In DA2 I don't. It's not complicated.
And honestly the anwer to ugly robes is to make better robes. Not scrap evrything and give characters limited options.

Oh no, I'm with you 100%. If I find out that there's say...3 or 4 unique armors per character and they'll allow some significant appearance/stat customization, I'll be totally ecstatic. That might even swing my opinion to the other side. My whole argument is choice, for all of us.
...And beer.
Here's hoping...

Multiple might mean "two." Or 2+ for some characters, one for others. We honestly have no idea.

When you'd equip say... Oghren or Sten with the Splintmail armor - it was simply the body being swapped for the armor. You're essentially putting the head on a new piece of armor that has the same animations as everybody else. This doesn't help much either since armors tend to all be recolors of themselves, making people not stand out in a crowd and everybody looking the same.
With this Dragon Age 2 system, they've created unique armors and body types for each character adding more depth to their personalities and have created individual animations for these characters (or so we've seen). This allows for more personalization to these characters, Isabela's mannerisms can be different than Varric or Bethany. Characters will remain "themselves" at the cost of you not being able to put Varric in a chantry robe or take off Isabela's clothes because you think it's funny.
The real issue at hand is your opinion on it. Do you honestly believe switching the appearence of a character is fully worth having everybody act the same? Look the same?
