Hey guys and gals,
Alright so I'm doing my first Insanity playthrough and right now I'm in a situation where I'm thinking either a little health or weapon damage boost may help. That brings me to Miranda. I always take Miranda and Jack, now I've got 5 points to spend on Miranda. Should I go for Cerberus Leader or Tacticitian, I also ask because I use Miranda as my 2nd in command during the suicide mission all the time, so if she's not a "Leader" then it sounds like she won't fair as well.
Whats the best plan ??
Cerberus Leader or Tacticitian for Insanity ??

Cerberus leader regardless of difficulty. It's one of the best passives in the game.

Leader's the one with increased squad damage, right? Yeah, no question how insanely useful that is.

Let me join the throng: Cerberus Leader.

Okay that's what I was thinking the idea of health on Tactician was what was swaying me but I've been doing alright and an increase in weapons will make it a hell of a lot easier.

Interesting coincidence. I had pondered the very same dilemma the other day, and I am still not entirely certain.
I always take Jack, and have started taking Miranda consistently on missions with her (especially with an Adept who has Energy Drain or a Sentinel). Traditionally I have always gone with the Cerberus Leader (+15% Squad Weapon Damage) option. However, because this particular squad would rely more on powers--specifically Pull Field and Unstable Warp detonations--than weapons I considered going with Cerberus Tactician (+15% Squad Health) to increase survivability, and gain a few extra seconds to use those powers more often.
Therefore, if the Squad is spending most of the time taking cover and popping up with power animations would the bonus weapon damage still be worth it? Jack is going to have a combined -45% power cooldown time (Neural Mask and Primal Adept) and Shepard can get as high as -55% (Guardian, Neural Mask, Hydra Module, and Archon Visor). The only member with powers not on an equally low cooldown recharge is Miranda, yet the squad bonus damage does not apply to her since she gets the +25% weapon damage regardless of which evolution you choose.
So does this scenario lend any credence to the more defensive of the two options?

Very small difference either way. But I prefer +weapon damage over +health any day.

in insane mode health is the key, especially if you play a vanguard

I would still prefer Cerberus Leader for Miranda.

Health is nothing, played right Vanguards don't even suffer any health damage at all. All the +health/shield is worthless. The Redundant Generator and Hard Shields will make a big difference thouhg, as well as the +melee gear. Weapon/power damage bonuses are not that much a deal, but far more useful than a tiny health bonus imho.

I'd go Cerberus Leader, the health boost is barely noticeable to both Shepard and the other squadmate whereas the weapon damage increase is better in some ways for people like Zaeed and Thane who can get a 50% weapon dmg. boost with their passives and combined with snipers, boost them in combat a fair bit. Plus killing enemies faster is better than dying a bit slower IMHO.
Sometimes offense is the best defense.

I'm doing a vanguard playthrough ( insanity ) where I max to Cerberus Leader on miranda before adding any other points at all, and it is a real help. Also, the way the math works her bonus gets multiplied by the weapon-against-defense stat for each gun. I also go for destroyer on passive ( +6% over champion ). Miranda's passive is a wonderful bonus - game designers obviously wanted to use her character a lot.

Echo cerberus leader. Offense is the best defence and all that.
Actually I've one small nitpick - if you're playing a biotic class, and have a lot of weapon damage upgrades, the squad can sometimes ruin potential warp bombs by doing too much damage (ie, squad incisor rifle + max SR damage upgrades, + other bonuses is powerful, qualitatively speaking).
Not that big a deal, but can be irritating at times.

After careful preparations you've finally set the stage for a glorious Warp explosion, Warp is on its way, just milliseconds away ... "GARRUS"

Cerberus Leader is the clear winner for OSOK Snipers or Claymore fans, and is probably better for almost all other situations. My Reaver build is the first class where I specced her to Cerberus Tactician. The situation where you're using reave to keep your health up is the only time I would use Tactician.

I prefer having Cerberus Tactician on Miranda. More health and more time to cast.

Does the bonus to squad weapon damage only apply to the base weapon damage (i.e. the same way Ammo powers are applied) or is it stacked onto all other +% increases from upgrades/armor/class abilities etc to create a single +% bonus?

I play as a solider so Leader Power for miranda
This is because I always try to have a lot of fire power whilst having some biotic powers I go with Miranda and Samara.
But if i played differently I am sure the tactician one would be useful.

I always take leader, no matter what class I am playing. I want things to die quickly and usually more weapon damage insures that. Even on a casting class, you will notice the extra wpn damage more than extra health. On high difficulties the extra 20-75 points will not last long anyway, sort of like everyone testing and finding out extra weapon damage armor is better than extra shields and health as well.

I went with Cerberus leader. Granted I played as a one shot one kill widow infiltrator so it was in my interests to stack my damage as much as possible.
In general though, on insanity it seems weapon damage would be more useful as you want to be spending limited time outside of cover anyway, and would be wanting to maximise damage dealt when you are outside of cover

always health, only exceptions are Thane and Zaeed, because their wpn dmg increase far outweights the health benefits

Possibly a silly question but do Miranda's squad bonuses remain when she's dead?

Yes. I have to give credit to somebody else for this experiment, they posted it a while back, but I just did it myself.
You can check by looking at the health of shepard.
My example is just past Horizon, with Miranda as leader.
Shepard Health
----------------------
375 On Normandy
394 On Omega Picking Miranda and Garrus when landing
394 On Omega after "request new squad member" and picking Garrus and Mordin
375 On Omega picking Garrus and Mordin
394 On Omega after "request new squad member" and picking Miranda and Garrus
So it looks like the bonus gets applied when you select the squad member for the mission. I know its kinda quirky that it does not go down when you de-select her, but on any combat mission I don't think you get a chance to switch out members ( maybe in LotSB it works - have not tested myself - I always take Miranda ).

^Thx for the tests man.
That's been my thinking all along. However, I've started trying out the extra dmg bonus to see how that goes.
