If you plan on importing your Origins warden to Awakening, you'll most likely reach the level 35 cap before the end, so you shouldn't feel the need to rush to get lv 25 asap in Origins. I'd just use the camp emissaries to dump any inventory that I had on me from regular adventuring. If you are past the landsmeet and are desperate to reach lv 25 before heading to Denerim for the final battle, then head to Varathorn in the Brecilian Forest and stock up on elfroots and etc. While you do get xp, it is very small and you will need lots of money and inventory space.

I've never gained anything whatsoever from the crates.Arthur Cousland wrote...
You do get xp on xbox 360. Perhaps it takes more items, but after emptying out my inventory and loading up on elfroots twice, my warden gained a level or so. I may have traded in more elfroot, but my warden ran out of money and I didn't want to resort to crafting lyrium potions.

Do they effect the number Golems/Werewolves/Dwarves/Archers/Militia/Templars/Mages you get?
You get the same number regardless. The supply crates are largely a way to get controlled amounts of XP. They're great if you're teetering on the verge of leveling up right before Landsmeet, for example. You can give elfroots to the Dalish and level up in camp.

Not true!
In my first game I did lots of donations and then in my second I didn't donate at all. There was an obvious difference in the quality of gear the troops were equipped with. My first game they had top teir equipment while the second game I think they only had teir 5 or 6. It made an impact in their survivability.
If I understood the toolkit I'd dig around for some numbers to back up my observations.

The equipment of your allies are also tied to your character level. If your second character was at a lower level than the first, it might explain why the allies on that play-through did not posses top tier items.
