I have heard that this spell bypasses magic resistance, and that it's cheap because you can use it on just about anything. If this is the case, can it be used on bosses like Irenicus, Melissan, Bodhi, Kangaxx, liches, and dragons, Demogorgon, and the Five? If yes, it seems that you can end any of these hard battles quickly. If not, why not?

Many of the 'boss'-type creatures, particularly in ToB, have specific immunity to Imprisonment. I couldn't give you an exact list, but this is a method by which the developers attempted to limit the effectiveness of this kind of tactic.

Imprisonment is a bad idea on monsters who need to be able to speak after you fight them...or if you want any loot they might be carrying.

I don't bother using it so not 100% certain but would have thought as you don't actually kill the enemy you also get no XP?

They die (Freedom revives them) and you get XP.

Can you continue to imprisson + freedom to gain a bunch of xp?

Yes. But by the time you get those two spells, you probably have to do it for a while to get any noticeable effect out of it. You can use images and simulacra with scrolls if you really want to.

I wonder if you could do that to say, TorGal, and have Nalia dish out reward XP multiple times.

Project image, wish, imprisonment, freedom... Does imprisonment work on dragons and the like? What is the highest xp opponent it works on?

I haven't used the spell in years, but i remember it works on Yaga Shura. Draconis is immune to it, as is Abazigal. I assume other dragons are immune to it as well, but i'm not sure of that.

Is there any defense to imprisonment. Kangaxx just keeps using it to make my people disappear. I keep using creature but kangaxx seems to have unlimited imprisonment spells.

Spell Immunity: Abjuration makes you immune to Imprisonment, as does changing to the Slayer.

There are also scrolls of Magic Protection. See who in your party has +4 or +5 weapons, and shield them and keep the rest of your party out of the battle. Then Kangaxx goes down relatively easily. Also remember that only level 6 and up mage spells work against him,

Does Spell Trap or Spell Turning help against Imprisonment?

Spell Trap works IIRC. (Spell Turning probably doesn't, but it's been a long time since I actually played, so YMMV.)
EDIT: Of course Kangaxx the Demi-lich has an infinte amount of them, so it's not really going to save you. As far as I can tell, SI:A or a Scroll of Protection from Magic or Scroll of Protection from Undead are the only sure-fire way.

Berzerker rage also works. Depending on your mods, the game engine also assumes that barbarian rage and even Minsc's rage get the same immunity, even though they shouldn't.

Protection from the Undead feels so cheesy. You cast the scroll (cheap and abundant) and mighty and immortal undead just lets you beat them to oblivion with your bare hands (+5 Justice and +6 Revenge).

If you think it's too easy why not load up SCSII. You're likely to find your protection dispelled before you know it.FreakyBigGuy wrote...

Imprisonment is also a pain when used by enemies.
BAH! Protection from abjuration and any spell immunity spells work... but some enemies randomly cast it about on your party *ahem* demilich. <-- i hate that thing.

It does, spell trap absorbs four shots and spell turning reflects two.virumor wrote...

It's also more fun to fight a demi lich this way than using Spell Immunity or protection from magic scrolls, becomes a mad race against time.

It's a pity that someone included spell of magic protection in this already easy game. 10 mins of being completely immune to kangaxx is a bit of a joke.

In the vanilla game, sure. But in a modded game Kangaxx will immediately for instance summon a Dark Planetar when he notices you're immune to his Imprisonment spam.
