She had a distinctive name, bantered, and she knew people in the fortress! I thought she was a keeper!

I wish, I honestly liked her. She was like the Anti-Alistair. All plucky and fulla belly-fire, tolerating Oghren and Anders involvement with the Wardens like a champ.Ollymandias wrote...

Really? She actually reminded me of Alistair.
I admit that while I initially felt bad for her, the more I think about it, the less I would've liked to have her as a full companion. She would've been so disappointed with what being a warden really represented.

Well her life goal was to be a Warden. She worked really hard to get there, then died horribly at her Joining. Alistair fell ass backwards into being a Warden after living a semi-miserable life and survived. I could elaborate but I'm really really lazy, and like to be vague and generalizedZjarcal wrote...

That could have been great character development for her if the writers had decided to let her live. Imagine seeing the new junior warden becoming more and more depressed after the luster of the wardens' begin to wear off, leaving her the realization of how false her illusions of grandeur were. And then, you can have her personal side-quest be one where you harden her by making her realize her new situation and accept it as is rather than as it should be.
She could have had so much potential, if only the writers had let her live. Oh well.

It would've been interesting no doubt, but I don't know if I would've had the patience to deal with her.
Actually let me be honest, what really bothered me about her was her battlecry "For the Wardens!"... after the third time I was like "SHUT UP MHAIRI!".

She can say whatever she wants... she's HAWT... it took a third Awakening run to finally shuck her gear off before the joining to find out how hot she really was. She looks so good in those random braids. Grrrrrrrrowl.Zjarcal wrote...
That's more or less how I envisioned her involvement in Awakening would've been. I could picture how sad she would've gotten if the warden chose to defend Vigil's Keep instead of Amaranthine. And she probably would've been horrified if the warden sided with the Architect.

What's also surprising is that you can gain approval with Mhairi through dialogue. I suppose that someone needed to die during the joining, but it would have been nice if another female tank came along. At least Sigrun wasn't, by default, a ranged female companion.

Yes, hopefully DA2 has more female warriors. Sure, Witch Hunt had Ariane, but she was annoying.

Sigrun was a warrior with lock picking and stealth. I sent her off alone to fight groups of enemies and she was just as capable as Oghren. Better actually because of her damage output.

Sigrun is bottled pure awesome. If there's one companion I want to see again, it's Sigrun.
This. Totally. Sigrun just rocked on so many levels.

Oghren's belching cheapened the Joining as a whole (and consequently Mhairi's death). Awakening Oghren... *shudders*

Her death did serve to reinforce the dangers of the Joining, but it's a pity she had to die. There was a bit of flirtation between her and Anders and I would have liked to see that develop.
However, Justice is already a sword and shield warrior. While she was very likeable, Mhairi is nowhere near as interesting as Justice. I would rather have him in the party over Mhairi.

The worst part about Mhari's death was the way it was immediately cheapened by an over the top and unbelievable drunk joke about Oghren. It completely ruined the moment and did the character a real disservice. Didn't do Oghren any favors, either. But then, little in Awakening did.
I agree 100%
HATED Oghren in Awakenings with an undying passion. The last time I played I sent him back with the King.

To answer your question, OP, there is no way to save Mhairi.

Justice is interesting? Really? I found him dull. And the whole rotting corpse thing bothered me after, I don't know, about 25 seconds . . . .
