Opening cinematic which involves the reapers attacking earth.
Tutorial mission.
Initial story mission introducing you to your first party members.
{Choose one of four planets}
Go to that planet, meet with the leader.
"Our army is too occupied with (small scale problem) to even think about joining you."
Go and solve their problem, maybe a moral choice on the way and meet party members.
"We pledge our allegiance"} x3
Another story mission where '**** gets real'.
Previous loop, one last time.
Final missions.
Credits roll. (with no Faunts)

That would be such a disappointment if that was the case. Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised either.

I'm kind of torn about this one, I'm extremely glad this would indicate that ME3 is the next Bio game in the pipeline, yet I'm somewhat disappointed by the whole hype campaign that lead up to this - I mean, the fact that ME3 is Bio's next game after DA2 is of basically 0 news value... Unless they realised it and thus created the weird binary code campaign. :P

Anyway, looking forward to this (or whatever they choose to release) and hope that they've learned from both the previous games and really make ME3 as awesome as can be!

Oh yeah, looking at the possible parallels to DAO, I hope they've learned from that one as well... :)

It is ALL speculation.... NOTHING is confirmed. Yes, we know it is going to be ME3, but that is about it. The blurb we're reading is probably placeholder.

You can take everything from "Lord of the Rings" to "Casablanca" and trivialize it if you really want to.  For more psychological works you can sum it down to "Bob goes crazy".

In fact there are about 7 basic templates, plots to which all narrative stories comply.

But that's not what reading a book, watching a movie or playing a game is about,is it? So take your conceited attitude and insert it in a specifical anatomical spot where the sun doesn't shine.

Well, judging from the blurb, at least they remembered that the Reapers are in fact the main enemy. That right there's a step in the right direction.

I'd hate to think that we'd be off shooting Eclipse mercs while Earth burns.

Difference is that in some cases the presentation is done smoothly. That's not the case with many Bioware games in which that structure above is in-your-face obvious and clunky

I'm pretty sure it'll play exactly like that. Anyway, even though it sounds pretty stupid written like that, it WILL be executed pretty damn good. Just look at DAO, that's the exact story.

It's not the plot of the story that matters, it's the presentation. Just look at Avatar, it isn't the highest grossing movie of all time 'cos of the story. It's because it had a great director that presented that story well

I'm more aggravated at the price tag. Especially considering this is basically an expansion.

Yes, just like ME2 was an expansion to ME1 that reinvented several things and changed them completely (for the better)

And just like DA2 will be an expansion to DAO, despite the fact that it looks like a completely different game that has nothing to do with DAO (I'm not bashing DA2 just saying that in such a short time they made radical changes)

If that premise is accurate it is hugely disappointing that a series that started with so much promise of being the sci-fi story of our time descended to a generic big army vs. big army finale. But then I guess considering how ME2 ****** up the story we shouldn't have expected anything else.

Wow, one little blurb and everyone here seems to know how the entirety of ME3 is gonna play out. Would one of you mind letting the rest of us in on what's going to happen throughout the rest of the game? Oh, what are some of the side mission? Were the romances good?

Seems to me that most people need to chill out and wait for more details before grabbing the torches and pitchforks.

When we get more info = "Wait for screens"
When we get screens = "Wait for trailers"
When we get trailers = "Play the game"
After that = "The game is done, don't play if you don't like"

I doubt anyone's going for torches or pitchforks. It's just that not everyone's convinced this will be good.

I agree.  We don't know enough about what's being planned for the third game to make any real judgements on it at this time.  I'm just glad to know its coming, once I know the release date I'll be able to start saving to pre-order it from somewhere like Play.com or Amazon.  I won't get it from EA store as things are always more expensive on there than they are elsewhere.

On the attack on Earth thing  I think we're all jumping the gun here.  We don't know whose attacking Earth - we just assume its the Reapers.  Personally I think an attack on Earth is more likely to be carried out by the Batarian Hegemony - possibly at the instigation of a Reaper, to keep the Alliance occupied as with Earth either destroyed or severely wounded the whole of the Human race both in and outside of Alliance space would go mad with a combination of shock, grief, horror, rage and a desire to make the 'four eyes burn' for what they did.  Regardless of what the Council says the Alliance would likely attack the Batarian Hegemony with every weapon it has - indeed the Council would be obligated under the Citadel Conventions to help them as an attack on one Council race is an attack on all of them.

Which could be the Reapers plan.  Keep the Council races distracted by a major war elsewhere allowing the Reapers more time to all arrive and plan out how there going to go about there genocide this time as plans A and B were dismal failures thanks to Commander Shepard.

In all the chaos Shepard has to get the rest of the galaxy ready to face who he knows is really behind the attack and the start of the war.  All the while having to wrestle with his own possible desire to go to Kha'shan and kill the Batarian leadership.
