Nope, you can't do that. Chronologically, Awakenings takes place before Witch Hunt, and you can't import your characters backwards.
However, playing Witch Hunt does indeed unlock some items. They will appear in your origin story when you next play Origins. The only way to get Witch Hunt items into Awakening is thus to play Witch Hunt, then Origins through, picking up the gear and taking it with you into Awakenings.

Oh i see. So you have to play the whole game again with a new character?

Is that the way it works for The Golem's of Amgarrak DLC as well?

'fraid so.
The sequence is Origins - Awakenings - Golems of Anorak - Witch Hunt. You can only import characters from games which took place previously.

Oooh, hang on, someone's just told me I'm wrong - existing characters do automatically get the DLC gear as soon as you unlock them! So you don't have to play the whole game again. Sorry, my bad.

Yes, and there are Origins versions and Awakening versions of the reward items for completing Leliana's Song, Golems of Amgarrak and Witch Hunt.

Isn't there ANY way?
I deleted my recent games after playing the next (to keep clutter to a minimal) and now my character is gone.
Since WH and GoA were available for play, I assumed these came in between Origins and Awakening...
And I am not eager to AGAIN go through the entire Origin again.
Or is there a way to recover my old character?
A workaround, maybe?

If you deleted your character then it is gone and can never return. As for DLC, it goes in this order Awakening then GoA then Witch Hunt.

Yes. Though "logically" since the witch went, it would be logical to search for her (in my case, had a relation with her).
And I figured it to be okay, since it came open.
"Do the small ones, then off to Awakenings." I figured.
Perhaps they should have been locked untill Awakenings was done.
EDIT: I do have the WH save.
Can't I derrive a character from it?
Substract it from a save file, somehow?

No way to recover Origins character file from a WH save file. The file formats are different and will not be recognized. A WH save file can ONLY be loaded into Witch Hunt. You should have kept your Origins save file which can be used to load into any of the external DLC's (ie Awakening, DoA and WH).
