But I'm betting the guy who did write the preview saw something that he interpreted as an evasive roll - perhaps the dash you suggested - and I haven't seen Mike Laidlaw or any other dev state explicitly that there is no such effect which works as a lateral (rather than backflip) dodge move, regardless of what it's actually called.

Not to say there couldn't be. And not to say there won't be, but currently, there isn't.

A shield increases your missile reflection and defense. Defense is a passive ability that lowers your chance to be hit.

*Steeples fingers* Well, if they can, we have yet to show or talk about it, so I would wait and see before letting that scream out.

I remember when a site reported that Dragon Age was going to be an MMO and that you could play a dwarven mage.
Oh, do you have a link? That sounds hysterical.

Eh? Why does a rogue having an 'evade' ability (it's the backflip) mean the warrior should have a block or counterattack ability? And anyway warriors with shields presumably -can- 'block' attacks. We aren't talking twitch mechanics here, you can't flip out like a ninja and dodge every hit. Plus for all we know warriors do have a counterattack special or somesuch. Take a chill pill!

I wish. It was years ago. I don't think Mike was even on the team then.

Defense lowers damage taken when hit last I checked DEX lowers chance. Unless you're talking about shield defense.
And everyone doesn't play S&S warriors.
"Screaming in rage?"
Because rogues get a new talent to help them avoid attacks?
No because Warriors seem to be getting jack squat while Rogues keep getting things. >_>

They
can already lockpick, presumbaly steal and a warrior can just tank and
attack. What exactly is the reason one would choose a warrior over a
rogue other then wearing heavy armor?

Ahhh yes. I remember those really early descriptions of the game. Wasn't there something about being a necromancer in some of those early descriptions?

Just feel it's a bit early to start worrying about one class getting more than another, especially in a single player RPG.

we don't really know much about what warriors are getting besides the closing attack.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say 'rogues keep getting things'. ALL the classes are 'getting things' the talent system has been completely revamped, we just havn't seen most of them yet. Unless you are talking about the dual weapons and the archery? But rogues miss out on axes, maces, and shields so it wasn't an entirely one sided divorce.

Oh but Apollo, you know people are just waiting to say "Mage is OP and Rogues need to be nerfed!"

Yeah mostly dual wield and archery. See I never used all those things on rogues so I didn't overly care. I stuck to DW daggers on rogues and Sword/dagger combo on warriors.
I really don't care about one class getting more just the fact that playing a warrior will feel like gimping myself.

Wiki link
And other than DEX what adds to defense?
And yeah I wasn't overly fond of S&S you barely attacked, the specials were "meh" and so on.

Well, okay then. Really can't argue with that.
Thanks for the direct response, Mike.
Now, would love to know what that previewer thought he was seeing . . . . because frankly, I'm not bothered at all by a dodge-like feature/effect. I'd actually be fine with it . . . especially if it's reasonably realistic.

Nah, no mage teleports, but they have ways of countering enemy spells. Dispel Magic is more useful in DA II than it was in Origins, if you ask me.
Concerning... teleporting mages. If I'm not mistaken, DA:O codex revealed that mages in Theidas cannot teleport, fade not being an exception because your mind is in the fade, but not body (Matrix style)
And the Imperium of old mages in the past did try to enter the fade in person, but after thousands of slaves died for blood magic purposes and tons of lyrium was used, nothing worked anyway.
So yea, for all of you people who don't like to read the awesome codex, no teleports for mages indeed!!!
There ya go folks!!!!!!!!! http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Mage - all info is here

What? Never.
In NWN I played a fighter or fighter/thief. In WoW, I played a warrior or paladin. In Mass Effect, I played a soldier. In Dragon Age, I played a sword and shield warrior.
I don't care if it's a single-player party-based game, my PC is a warrior. I am interested in how warriors are being treated.

Awesome.
I would suggest that you toggle into walk mode and play a female Hawke, and do just that. Mmmmrrrrowwwl. Her walk is a prefect blend of strong and sexy to my eyes.
But will she walk like an actual woman in the cut-scenes? I was happy that the female Warden had her own 'walk' and 'run' animations, but sad to see her walk all manly and tough in the cut-scenes >_>
I mean, it worked well with my lesbian Warden, but not so much with the more lady-like characters I've made.
