The following I posted in the ME3 outed on EA Store thread, but with a deeper analysis here. Note: All information proven wrong will be crossed out rather than removed so we'll have a record of our original thoughts for histories sake.
For a start, I think that the game will
be set in London, given all those teasers about MI6 and the like, but
that could just be Bioware's red herring. If it's about the invasion of
Earth, then the destruction we see in the teaser will be from the
Reapers, obviously. That's the easy stuff.
First question: Who is the man in the teaser?[/list]
- That guy in the teaser is using and Incisor Sniper rifle, that's been established.
- What's important here is the codex
entry for the weapon - it mentions that it is a new wave of weapons.
That would imply that the special forces and secret services would have
access to the rifle, and given the MI6 barcode teaser, then it's
perfectly possible that this man is of that secret service. Also note
that he has lighter armour than marines we've seen, so possibly he is
more oriented for espionage. This could be backed up by the neutral
colours of his armour and weapon, especially considering the rifle is
normally blue. He definitely seems like a black-ops agent to me.
Here, he is pointing the sniper rifle at survivors. If he is a member
of MI6 working for Earth's defense he could be scoping them out.On the
other hand, he could be the Saren-like figure of ME3, and is responsible
for the destruction around him, and the survivors know it. He isn't
going to want that information out.- An interesting side note - he seems to be injured.
The wound seems to be from a gunshot, which is something the Reapers would not do. Either he's been shot by one of their footsoldiers (which would hint that it's not the Collectors who we'll be fighting on the ground, because their weapons are energy weapons and don't do that type of damage)
or it reinforced my theory that he's the Saren of ME3, and he's been shot by soldiers fighting for Earth.
Now, onto the setting. So that's about as much as I can glean from the teaser trailer, after watching it about ten times. Coming up tomorrow, I'll analyse the full trailer, but it will be a bit delayed because the VGAs don't show in Britain. Which is ironic, considering where it looks like this video is set. Please post any theories you have, and if I've missed any information, please inform me, and I'll post it here.
- As previously mentioned, Bioware's facebook page posted a series of barcodes, detailing various things. The first was translated as showing the relative mass of iron. The second one showed the coldest temperature ever recorded on earth, at Vostok Station. Some have suggested that these showed the periodic table of iron, FE, and an acronym for coldest temperature, CT. Mass FE-CT. To be honest, I think this seems a little far fetched. More likely, the mass of iron was simply to tell us this was about Mass Effect, and
Vostok is a star system in Mass Effect, perhaps where we'll first have an encounter with the Reapers- [Unconrirmed, but seeming unlikely]- Two more barcodes were released, and these had a distinctly british theme (yay!). The first of these two led to the MI6 homepage. The second one turned out to be the album cover from the Clash, a british band. These titbits lead me to believe that the game will at least partially be set in Britain, perhaps that's where the destruction in the teaser occurs, and where we'll have a mission or two. I think the man in the teaser will be probably be a brit, too.
This image seems only to confirm the suspicions. A still from the teaser, it appears to show the man looking out from theLondon Eyeacross the Thames to the Houses of Parliament, or possibly the opposite view from Big Ben,although I find that it seems to me to be the former.Compare it with this image:. It's at a slightly different angle, but it shows a bridge across a river with buildings that look very much like damaged futuristic versions of the Houses of Parliament.
So why do I think that it's the London Eye? Compare these images:Again though, it could be the smashed in face of Big Ben, given that that would be more iconic for an international audience.![]()
. The curved frame of the window in the teaser looks very much like the windows of the London eye, don't you think?
Alrighty, the preliminary reports are now in quote marks, for record. Onto the analysis of super-awesome trailer!
This picture shows what seems to me to be the Houses of Parliament torn to the ground. Other buildings around it are still there, though, so either the Reapers just got here (unlikely), or total destruction is not their goal...
- I was wrong and Shinannigan was right. The man is in Big Ben.
- http://i.imgur.com/pHVCo.jpgWindow%20Guy Thanks to stefanbw for the better quality screenshot. Window-guy is shooting a husk of some sort, most likely, as the creature appears human, and isn't using guns. It appears to me to be wearing clothes, though, although the quality is not good. I'm thinking that we'll encounter some super-husks, 'pure' husks if you will, made directly by the Reapers.
If we direct our attention from the massive Reapers towering above London, we can see gunships flying off. My guess, is they're finding survivors. The fact that London isn't dust could be for cinematics, but I think that they're merely using surgical strikes for their nefarious gain. They don't look to be interested soley in annihilation of everything.
Reapers, descending upon London. It looks like many more are emerging from the clouds, so we could in fact be looking at London as a major base of operations for the Reapers. Or, they could be just about to destroy it, and I'm plain wrong about their plans.
The destruction is localised. Is this cinematic liberty, or trying to tell us something. Perhaps Earth is more special than we thought, and they're searching for something in that area or what if they're trying to make everyone think that Earth still has time, then, when the entire galaxy's fleet arrives to take it back, another swarm of Reapers attacks elsewhere, like Thessia or the Citadel, more or less unopposed?
The iconic N7 armour. It's definitely Shepard watching Earth. He (as the trailer one's male, I'll refer to any specific parts of marketing as male, Shepard in general as s/he) walks off, so the ship, probably Normandy, is leaving to gather an army. I can see more LOTSB-style angst about leaving Earth behind.- Saren 100 has brought to my attention the fact that the viewing screen looks to small for Normandy SR2. It could be an orbital space station, the SR3 or just cinematic libery.
EDIT: Added a new theory about the localised destruction.
