Good point, that never actually crossed my mind. I was just thinking that New York seems to be the centre of the world in popular culture and that everything is set there. God, now I seem really callous after calling New York's destruction tedious. I probably should have chosen Washington as the example.

Fallout 3 and MW2.
Also Crysis 2 is gonna be set in New York.

But US West Coast should get some beating since only 1 game ever did it( World in Conflict, only game I gave sh*t about characters and it's RTS!)  and it makes most sense. But since Reapers attack from orbit so it would make most sense to attack China.B)

No seriously, look at pictures.
I just can't believe Retribution had character that died and has same first and last name while this CGI guy has same face!

Agreed. That does seem like too much of a coincidence. Perhaps it's an inside joke and a slight nod to their fans on behalf of Bioware.
After all, when London is under attack, it is up to Her Royal Majesty's 1st Cricketeers to save the day.

But that joke requires that fans follow cricket and I only knew that since somebody told that name of Retribution character and I just Google his name thinking he's some celebrity I never heard off, again.

China, India and Europe, if they want the most munchies in as little an area possible. But they'd probably also want to take out organised defence forces asap.

Anyway, I wonder whether the trailer might give even the tiniest of clues as to whther there's something special about earth/humanity, which makes it a particular target for the reapers, apart from Shepard having pissed them off. Perhaps the Protheans left something more in the Sol system apart from that listening post on Mars.

That's a game/franchise, not city.

But that's enough, isn't it? Perhaps that's what happened to Bioware as well. They heard somehow that there was a cricketer named Paul Grayson and they just went for it. Office humour is a curious thing...

According to some Codex entries China is still one the most powerful countries.

Also Reapers are probably attacking Earth to get minions of most capable race galaxy to wipe out other races. Also conquering Citadel would make Reapers in high advantage by destroying all planets communications and shutting down Relays until specific one is needed so all Reaper forces attack one system.

Yes, you should have. It's hard enough to understand what city is meant if it's pronounced Canadian - Taranno - Tyrano - Trahno. There is a second "t" in there, you know. ;)
j/k, I love Canada.

And the answer to your question is: because there's not enough munchies. Canada is too lightly settled. Reaper's will get there though, sooner or later.

Well majority of missions are for sure to be in rest of galaxy but I believe on Earth it will be last battle.

Hopefully, yes. But there's an awful lot of rumors floating around right now, almost none of them good.

Hoping they're all dead wrong though. Particularly those about multiplayer.

The man is in the same location as the air car after a major attack. Though if I was sniping I'd rather not take a Farris ride up and kill targets or scout them It'd give away my position just to get there and I doubt he was already there when the attack happened and was armed, if he was its implausible for two reasons: 1 he had to get preknowledge and trust his guys not to bomb him from orbit when they took that building and most likely the city out. which is trust most people just don't have. 2: He would've been noticed as not your average tourist showing up for a ride with armor and mysterious cases or bags to boot security would've been on that guy the second he showed up.

Big Ben or the tower shown below would've been a great place for sniping as apposed to up on that Farris ride.

I hope they don’t use the VGA to show the movie I want to know about the game. Sense all games to movies with the exception of Silent Hill have been poorly done and don’t fallow the game script I’ll really hold off on seeing the movie till it comes to DVD at least. I’d love the game to fallow the ME story but if that guy is Saren they’re already deviating way too much and if its Shepard why the hell is he on a Farris wheel? I really don’t know how the ME movie will work out with all that’s contained in game with out them bashing it for being a Star Treck film on the big screen. Whatever world the clips are showing right now it reminds me of battlestar.

Under the assumption it is the London Eye, my idea was that he climbed up it for a better vantage point, but it seems that it might be Big Ben, too. And your right, the stills do look like Battlestar.

I'd quite like the Queen or King to be harvested. That's assuming of course that we haven't dispensed with the over-priveleged parasites by the time of Mass Effect 3. And on the MW2 thing, even if Mass Effect was set in Washington, it would still be ok because (A) Bioware are from Canada and (B) I can't see Mass Effect doing any onesided, borderline-racist patriotism like Call of Duty.

Oh, forget Bioware is from Canada.
Silly me.

Also MW2 was only CoD with US patriotic bollocks.
Unfortunately most of gamers are from US so we foreigners have to get anoyed by that.

Even though I'd like to see Canadian patriotism/nationalism since THAT would be original. Then again there are many Canada haters for some reaosn in US.

Wow WAAAAAAAAAAY off-topic.

Really? I always felt that the IW COD games were more British-centric than American-centric. That is based more on how the story/characters/levels were heavily emphasized a British narrative. Treyarch has the more American-centric COD games starting with WAW. Blacks Ops was a borderline propaganda on the Cold War conflict. Little is even told about how the Cold War was partially about Imperialism/neo-colonialism. Instead we get some ludicrous story about the Big Bad Russians being up to no good again. The way I see it the Cold War was a very grey war and there are no heroes or villain that any reasonable man can pull out of that conflict. Both sides did very bad thing in that War. End Rant.

I'm not for any type jingoism/nationalism/patriotism.(or whatever you want to call it) Mostly because it insults my and any reasonably intelligent patriot of any country. Personally any form of Western jingoism annoys me. I tolerate US jingoism more because I know that not every American thinks this way and that those that do are total morons who can't even justify their narrow-mindedness. I really don't think this is strictly and American characteristic as some would insist and MW2 is a bad example of a game that showcases American Jingoism. COD: BO was far more jingoistic of all COD games in it narrow depiction of the Cold War. (The Whole Cuba Level comes to mind)

As an American, I don't really mind games/films/etc. that have an American perspective as long as it isn't some jingoistic b.s. nor some stereotypical overgeneralization depicting Americans as loud, abrasive, hillbilly morons. I seem to get that vibe from non-Americans

Now that is very off topic.

Don't worry, no patriots here. I'm glad to see ME3 is set in my home country, sure, but I'm also glad it'll have an outside perspective. Britain is pretty crappy in many ways - the parasitic scourge of the royal family, the un-democratic House of Lords, the weather. More recently, we can add the new Conservative government to that list (because Margaret Thatcher did so well) and their Judas-esque Liberal Democrat henchmen.
Incidentally, why do you specify western jingoism as annoying? Is any jingoism good?

Just if Pacificien is watching, this is still on topic, as it's discussing the setting in Mass Effect 3, and its treatment, too.

Damn straight, go Canada. You brought me my favourite game, and my favourite TV show. Britain does nothing that cool.

Ok, now we're getting off topic. Discussion over.

I agree.

IW's CoD's have actually had a bad habit of killing off American characters (+30, 000 others in MW1), and at the same time consist of a mostly British and Russian main cast. There's a theme of "play the American until he dies" in both MW games.

CoD3 had a small segment with Canadian's that was pretty awesome.

As for Black Ops, you can't really take it seriously because the game was so damn silly in so many ways. Everything was exaggerated to the point that you may as well have been watching a Michael Bay flick. That said, I enjoyed it for what it is. Sometimes you just have to blow stuff up and put on glasses followed by a build up in tense music.

I also agree it's refreshing that this game isn't set in the US West Coast, especially Manhattan. Unfortunately London is about to be/was completely leveled, because that's the only reason you use an urban area as a setting for conflict... To show everyone how f*ed up its going to get.

Ok I was just thinking if Bioware does set this in earth they are sortve stealing from the Half Life storyline.

In half life earth is invaded by an extremely powerful species (the combine) and no matter what the earths combined armies can do they are defeated in 7 hours by this immensely more powerful species and then many are killed and some are combined with alien tech and turned into soldiers for the combine.

And home of the Space Channel which continued screening Caprica even when SyFy screwed the pooch.

That in itself is not a very original plot though, and I'm sure there'll be more to it in ME3.
