That's a better list. It does point to something else though, namely, that the lack of centralisation seems to be a limiting factor. It's possible to see why we end up with three or four separate sites for mods, but it makes me wonder why?

Otherwise, play on a console and avoid the crashes and problems that some pc gamers encounter.
Having said that, the main problems I have ever had running DAO are because I modded the game

There is a 'plus one' standard that let's us know how many people have chosen a mod, but it fails to say anything about quality or intent. For myself, a better hierarchy and descriptions are needed in the mod forums. If anything the number of mods available to players tells us that DA:O has a thriving community, for that I cannot complain.
I agree that the section "project" of the site is a bit messy, at least, we should be able to sort mods by themes (quests, aesthetics, armors...). They really should take some inspiration from the DAnexus site.
@Leonia42: thanks for using my list of mods, I'm glad it's useful. Don't hesitate to contact me

You can; the site just lists all mods available by default, in order of "popularity". I actually find DANexus quite a bit more disorganized than Projects is, what with all the TES inspired catagories in use.

I'm liking your listing as well, so don't be surprised if there is a PM from me at some point.

I'm sure it'll be in there soon, and anyway, you're already in my list, my human noble sends her eternal thanks.

@purple lady, I hear Ser Gilmore Npc is full of awesome ;_;
About the topic (ahem). I understand the aprehension of some people. There's a lot of crap out there, but there are also many many good mods.
Ultimately, what will always work best is other peoples recommendations. :-)
And yes, the BSN project section is a mess, and bioware doesn't care.

@Immortality, I have been tempted to download the Ser Gilmore mod for about a week now. I had a random dream where a friend recommended it to me, even though all I knew of the mod beforehand was that it existed, and that someone had recorded a video of him being all angry at you.

@Immort I'll do that
@Truby What you mention is really the philosophy I go my myself when it comes to mods. That's why the mods I've created have been designed to maintain lore to the best of my abilities
If anything, I tried to express the writers intent as much as I could.
You can do a search on nexus under the tag "lore friendly" and I'm sure you will find a whole list of them.

No, thanks to you for all the energy you give creating this mod!!
@ Truby, check my list (see my signature), I try to respect the lore with the mods I use, it might give you some
ideas.
@DL : *hugs back* I agree, in my opinion too, respecting lore is a key feature. I'm looking forward the next versions of your companions, especially Lealion, she seems promising.

I haven't used any DA mods myself, but I quite like the game world as it is. I guess I'm maybe a little worried that I'll download something that'll force me to see the world thorugh different eyes and ruin the game for me forever. Okay, that's a bit overdramatic. XD It's also a bit because there's going to be loads of absolutally rubbish mods out there and I don't have the effort to deal with sorting through it right now. I have been toying with the idea recently though. Any good ones out there?

I think I'll be waiting for that, need to finish up a few playthroughs first before I can devote any time to Rory
I think your worries are very real. Believe me, I've seen the depths of hell mod-wise, hehehe.
I'd say that if you really want to be sure, you not only read the mod description, but try to read reviews or ask friends that tried them. It's the best way not to end up with a lemon. :-)
About Ser Gilmore, v3.0 will come out in January, because around 150 new lines need to be recorded, and I'm working on extra compatibility with other great mods (Zev Dialog fix and Morri Dialog fix). So... some weeks from today. :-)

Mods add life to the game.....
And everyone should experience the extremely Lore Friendly Dark Times mods at least once. Its as close to be professional as you can get.

Perhaps you're referring to Lady Desires mod? (I'm not working on that but you should certainly pass that on to her)

But in terms of visual quality, I'd argue modders are capable of producing things that are on par with professional content. I'm damn proud of Fort Velen and the other areas I've been working on for Shattered War, and I've seen numerous screenshots from other modders who have produced very high quality work.
Actually, since mods are only playable on the PC you are not so constrained as Bioware was with performance issues on consoles and you can actually make areas that look better than DA:O.
Fort Velen is looking good, Amstrad Hero.

There's also a Top 100 category which also gives you options such as Top All Time, Top Adult Only, Top Non-Adult, etc. While not every top mod will be to your taste, you at least know the quality is going to be good and it isn't going to be buggy. A lot of the top mods also are already set up to use the DAO Modmanager, which makes installing/activating mods an absolute breeze -- another plus.
That's not to say all good mods will show up there...there are several very small tweaks I find indispensable (Circles Be Gone comes to mind) that probably will not. But that's a good place to start.

what would make you start using them and playing them? What can modders do to make their work more appealing and convince you to download it?
Just out of curiosity, why is this important? A mod's worth isn't related to how many people download it. And making changes specifically to increase your download count seems an odd play to me.

Well...it's not directly related, no, but I can see why people who put a ton of time and effort into a mod for others want...you know...other people to use it.
That doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

The index is updated almost every day, but we only include projects that have content.
I suspect your content was added about two months after the project was created. As explained in the FAQ, the "Date Updated" information is broken on BSN, so we wouldn't pick that up unless there was a forum announcement. Of course, it might simply have been an oversight on our part.
Meanwhile, back on topic...
