If you don't use mods, why?

Is this because the mods are deemed unworthy by Bioware and thus deleted from the game? Or are the modders getting rid of them by themselves? I am just a little lost with the moral judgment of these mods and who is responsible for rendering them unusable at this point. Thanks!

Seriously? I can see someone asking why you play on a different platform, but mods? Some people just like playing the game vanilla. Is that so hard to fathom?

I respectfully disagree with this post because, to the best of my understanding, it is untrue.Bahlgan wrote...
Just a quick question I thought I might ask. A friend and I are very much so wishing to try out some of the content played out by mods. Alley of Murders, Return to Korcari Wilds, and the Reclaiming of Castle Cousland. Only problem is that they all seem to be blanked out... Well the Return to Highever anyway.

Alley of Murders is available on this site.
AFAIK there is no evidence to suggest that Bioware has ever removed or objected to fan-made content (other than unambiguous malpractice, such as spam).
Return to Korcari Wilds has been in the BSN Projects section, as a link to a download on DANexus, for months. I imagine that's for some practical reason, such as working around the upload size limit.
I can't find any evidence that the other titles mentioned have ever appeared on BSN (at least, not under those exact names).

Bahlgan, I just checked Alley of Murders and Castle Cousland and they're downloadable. I don't understand what you mean by "blanked out", but so far, both of them are used in all my runs except the very first... I can't speak for Return to Korcari Wilds but I did downloaded it once before. Please elaborate your problem a little and maybe we can help more.
Friend of mine here exclaimed he was unable to download the mods. My best guess is because he's using a Mac, but I don't know how well that accusation will go. I have myself surfed across the mods pages a few times and seen a few mods with the download button faded out, or blanked out; in other words, unclickable. Does this sort of event happen to more or is there some sort of complication? Perhaps the Return to Highever is the only one that is blanked out atm. Anybody got a link to support or dismiss this claim?

Return to Highever DOES exist. Or at least the mod which you could return to Castle Cousland. I never played it, but I heard tremendous things about it. This is the one my friend had stated was disabled from his ability to use it on his comp. He uses a mac, but I doubt that is the reason why he cannot use it.

Is this from the actual mod (files tab) page, or the main browse/search results page? I think if the modder doesn't select a "featured file" in their files list, the download link from the search results page will be grayed out...but if you go into the mod and click on files, you should still be able to download.I have myself surfed across the mods pages a few times and seen a few mods with the download button faded out, or blanked out; in other words, unclickable. One is if there is no file to download at all, and the other if the modder does not want the user to download a particular file without selecting from a list of appropriate downloads in his list. (which would indeed be located under the files tab)
In one of my projects I deliberately do not have a featured file simply because users must choose between which file to download, since one may not be compatible under certain circumstances. This limits possible conflicts by forcing the interested user to look through the various descriptions and make a choice based on their needs/desires.

I'd say that some mods simply improve the game, e.g. increasing texture resolution. I understand the concept of playing a game without mods. For example, I would typically play (and finish) a game without any mods before then going back and trying new content. Also, what about standalone adventures? That would be akin to asking "Why don't you play free DLC adventures?"Bryy_Miller wrote...

As an aside, your response appears quite combatative - I assume this is unintentional given your avatar has obviously been made using DAO mods. Are you playing devil's advocate here? This thread was aimed to help modders find out what they needed to do to help encourage players try out their work. It is apparent from this thread that many players have previously considered mods to be "cheating" or "low quality" or "unsafe" or otherwise have not been exposed to the full picture of what mods can offer.
We've been fortunate enough that we've been able to educate players about what mods are available that fit their requirements and desires.
As a modder, I consider myself to be making content "for the players". If players don't know about mod content, or have misconceptions about the type of mod content that is available, then I will try to rectify that situation.

This may be true, but what if they didn't know about mods, or had "wrong impressions" about them? I only buy games on PC that can be modded; I recently bought a PSP for other kinds of games that don't get modded.

Anyway, for those who like the salteen version of the game, ask yourself if you really think the game is anywhere near cool enough and exemplary of the RPG genre. These mods fix what some call broken, or dull, such as the fix that allows us to change the skin (colors) of distinct armor and weapons to those which are more appealing to the game. Veshialle, Topsider's Honor, Corruption, Wade's Superior Dragon sets, etcetera etcetera etcetera. These weapons and armor are too dull for unique items, and I believed they deserved a better outlook. Most other weapons tend to be like that.

But I think one reason is possibly that people are just totally unaware you can do anything like this, or where to look for them. They just don't know *to* look, if you see what I mean.
Finally, just to say, I do use mods myself, and now after having used some, I would be sad to play the game without them now. I use a small selection but the one that forces deathkill animations on every mob is just too good pass up. Fights are always epic in my game!
Have fun!

For myself, I use mods because I got tired of doing things the same way every time. If I play a DW rogue, I always found myself wearing Felon's Coat wielding Veshaille and Rose's Thorn. If I play a mage, I'm wearing . . . and wielding . . . using spells . . . You get what I mean - every playthrough seems to be a repeat of a previous playthrough.
Mods can change that by introducing new items. I particularly like RAVage's mod that adds random items. Every playthrough is different now.

Does anyone know of the mod that allows the battle shout voice to be enacted everytime a warrior uses the Rally skill when specialized a Champion? I was told that it was similar to the shouting effect from a Bard's Song of Valor or Song of Courage. I was told that it exists, yet I am having a hard time finding it, went through the first twenty percent and still not coming across it. If anyone can help me find it (if it exists) I would be grateful.
Friend said he heard a rumor it exists, so my confidence is not 100% on this one.

I'm not really sure if it helps and I haven't tried this MOD or this tweak myself. But... maybe it's what you're looking for, or maybe something to do during your spare time. I don't have spare time since I'm busy watching another ant. Just a speed search on my 10 minute break.

Maybe it's my sound card or something, but even those bard skills get muted sometimes. But I see the animation.

The first one I don't think I can use, it just removes the comment from the violent voice set, but I might be able to use the second one. Thanks alot though for the links, I will inspect them and see what I can do

I might add some later on, if I feel like it, but I quite liked the vanilla game. Haven't read yet about a mod that screams out "Must have!"

In the meantime, you can just use "_" and hope it works. I think you can rename it later on anyway... not really 100% sure. I never bothered about the naming part. But let me check on that later.
... hope I won't see any ant later after work. They distract me from everything.
