What's interesting to me is that when it comes to Mass Effect people have come to expect everything to be explained and every single nook and cranny of the story to make sense, by the very nature of the game people have come to expect things in the ME universe to make just as much sense as reality. It might just be me but I can't recall the last time a fanbase responded like that to a game.

Half this thread centers around people wondering just how the Reapers managed to get to Earth and offering up various logical theories to explain it. I just feel like with ME in particular fans expect to not only know the why but the how. It makes loose ends and plotholes get blown out of proportion that much more.

TLDR?: we're a bunch of picky jerks but i like it.

As I see it, Haestrom's sun is unlikley going to have anything to do with the Reapers getting back. It would have to use far too many new ideas to explain how things work. It would be a Deus Ex Machina, and a bad one at that. There are other less extreme ways for the Reapers to get back.

However I foresee that whats happening to Haestrom's sun is likely to be a big part on how to defeat the Reapers. Quite simply, do it to Sol. We've already seen how the radiation strips shields, which would be bloody handy against the Reapers! While such an idea would pretty much doom everyont on Earth, if if were possible to reverse the artefical aging of the Sun, it sounds like it might be a good idea, though likely with some collatoral damage on Earth (would seem like a Renegade action).

because the codex and backstory is generally so well written by bioware. I think this is exactly what they intended (you will find similar questions and theories around Dragon Age). It stems from the science in me, being semi-plausible. I know of no other games with a a forum community as large nor as active as this one. Finally, the reapers being trapped in dark space is such a large and important part of the story, of course it matters how they got to earth!!! This is the case for most players i suspect......

As do we all. It is in the main, an interactive story! So at £40.00 for each chapter, I for one expect the main plot and story points to make sense. In terms of TV, just take a look at Star Trek and how that programmes science was compared to real life. Star Wars too. Nobody asks for an explanation for where none exists, but when the fanbase ask, Bioware at least, usually comes up trumps, with mind blowing results. Darkspace and the Citadel being central to the ME series.  The whole story has been addictive and brilliant to say the least. However, without an explanation behind the Reapers arrival, it just undoes the good work already done, and leaves everybody scratching their heads (bioware wont have any intention of this i dont think)

For me, as long as it is 2011, and not delayed. For the sake of a couple of weeks, Im sure EA would release for the Christmas Holiday. A week later, at new year makes no sense at all. All the pre-holiday spending has finished! In the UK you have January sales, but that is only a fraction of the total spend 1st-24th December.

I think they put it at 31st December cause they do not have the actual release date yet...

agrees with Elcirith. amazon just has that as the release date as a placeholder. the 31st is the last day of 2011 so unless the game is delayed it will be released by the 31st

Yeah that was an epic snipe shot on that husk or whatever that was. However, I don't know what to think about the whole attacking earth thing. First off, its the basis of every other sci fi film/game/story ever made. Second, I know the Reapers have taken a special interest in humanity but I doubt they'd limit their attack to humans first. That's a little naive to simply be unconcerned with the other races of the galaxy, who actually have larger fleets than the humans.

For me, it's way too early to judge. I like the whole Earth's burning thing they have though.

But ME2's teaser taught us (or should've) that we shouldn't take it all at face value. Remember that trailer? We thought that A)Shepard was dead and wouldn't be playable and/or B)He's a geth.

I unlocked that achievement for both ME2 and 3 the moment I finished ME1 for the first time
