What's interesting to me is that when it comes to Mass Effect people have come to expect everything to be explained and every single nook and cranny of the story to make sense, by the very nature of the game people have come to expect things in the ME universe to make just as much sense as reality. It might just be me but I can't recall the last time a fanbase responded like that to a game.

Half this thread centers around people wondering just how the Reapers managed to get to Earth and offering up various logical theories to explain it. I just feel like with ME in particular fans expect to not only know the why but the how. It makes loose ends and plotholes get blown out of proportion that much more.

TLDR?: we're a bunch of picky jerks but i like it.

It is a trailer, it's just ment to make us interested, not nessaserily have an impact on the game.

I must say I was happy to see that Shepard didn't get his armour remodled. Before I saw that movie I just saw a still of that nameless chap in the clock and I paniced that my badass armour from ME2 just changed.

While the video has got me super-freakin'-hyped, I'm still rattling my brains over who Big Ben is voiced by in real life and possibly who his face is modelled off...

Have these been confirmed yet? Does anyone have any ideas?

Ideas? Sean Bean has been thrown around, but I think I disagree. there is just something off for that. An actor from Spooks has been thrown around too but his name escapes me.

Personally one of my questions is "How long after ME2 is this taking place?"

The Reapers had to 'find another way'. Last we heard Shepard was going to rally support for the Reapers arrival. In this trailer they are here and it is awesome. However, in the Mass Effect universe a few decades mean little to nothing unless you're Salarian. Could it be over ten years? a few dosen? A single year? Months...? Or even WEEKS...? Theories plix. =D

To perhaps give a bit of perspective on how 'generic' the trailer is and how little info it conveys perhaps you might want to look at

Not sure who the voice is, but he is certainly not The Bean. However, the phizog sure looks like to me a young/idealised Chris Ryan, the other ex-SAS thriller writer who was a member the ill-fated Bravo-Two-Zero patrol in GW1. He's middle aged and grizzled now, but that nose and those ears sure look similar.

Me and a mate have put a bet on regarding this actually... He swears it's Sean Bean, and while I can hear it in certain words I was way more convinced that it was Simon Pegg.

Funny thing is, Simon Pegg is the only one in all this speculation to outright deny that it's him, claiming that Brits all sound the same. Thing is if you're from Britain you can tell the difference probably better than others, and I am 90% convinced it's him.

In regards to Chris Ryan I can definately see what you're picking up on, with the resemblance (especially in the 3rd picture.)

I posted a comparison picture earlier for the comparison of Big Ben and a Russian actor called Vladimir Vdovichenkov that a mate of mine suggested to me (He watched russian subbed films and the like and said he recognised him...)

Oh yeah! There's some fantastic dubs out there already. Movie soundtrack stuff goes incredibly well with it. You're right though, the fact that so much stuff goes well with the trailer shows it is in itself pretty generic.

Personally, one of my favorite dubs: Here

A few humble observations: I think some people are reading way too much into certain aspects of the trailer; it was a cinematic teaser which debuted at an overproduced cable awards show where the assumption was many people would see it who had never played Mass Effect before, and didn't know what the hell a Reaper was. It was just a very stylish, very impressive cinematic designed to set the tone and the stage for a game a year away, take it for what it is and calm down. I agree that random gruff Brit marine completely out of the loop on the whole xenocidal transgalactic sentient dreadnought conspiracy shouldn't be the main character of ME3, fortunately I think we can safely insinuate that there isn't any chance of that. It was a framing device to build suspense for an advert, Sheperd's appearance at the end confirmed the locus of the narrative, as if there was any doubt. Its a teaser for a game a ways off, relax, these guys know what they're doing.

Agree on every single point :wizard:

What I am really excited about is having a release date; I thought it would be released much later, mid 2012 at earliest, so I'm happy not to wait for so long. Still, I thought they were going to link ME2 and ME3 stories through DLCs... will there be time for that? Or did they change their minds?

Anyway, given the two fantastic games we already enjoyed I trust  we won't be disappointed by the third.

I just hope the main story will be more long and various that the me2 one... and that vehicle exploration comes back :)

I believe too that Haestrom will have a relevant role. Haestrom's sun event would be a strategic move if that's a backdoor for entering the galaxy. It's deep into Geth space, so the Reapers can pop up and receive istant support.

And can't wait to see what Quarians will do - one of the most interesting sides of ME, I think.

If they do bring back vehicles like the mako or whatever, i hope the make it a bit more interesting and better controls, the mako controls are awful, saying that it is better in ME2.

But really, endless planets that are all the same except different floor and sky, thats something i don't miss from ME1

Of course, they should improve both Mako controls and landscape quality :D Although it shouldn't be so difficult...some rocks...some trees... smaller areas...

Planetary exploration added some gameplay, making the first ME longer...

While the planetary exploration made ME1 longer, I felt that ME2 was a much more cinematic experience. Everything had be carefully created, instead of using generated landscapes...

As I've said though to a couple of mates of mine, I feel that ME1 was an RPG with shooter elements, ME2 was a shooter with RPG elements. Hopefully come ME3 they'll combine the two and give the series a real coup de grace.

Mass effect 3 is going to be total and utter chaos. If earth is that ****ed up, then it goes without saying that most of the galaxy is too, whether or not the trailer showed it. I can't wait for next year to come

I'm totally psyched! Too bad it's coming out at the end of 2011, though.

I hope you guys held on to the collector base! Looks like we'll need it.

agreed

Man I'm glad my Shepard is pragmatic

See, the only reason I didn't take it is because I can't trust the Illusive Man. Right from the start of the game I wanted to slap him and just say "stop it" for being creepy and to remove those freaking contacts.B)

I'm backing a few more teasers similar to this, showing off the other species' homeworlds and how they are coping with the attack. Only because the name of the trailer is 'Earth'

Heh. All I want to know is, 1) when are we getting some new info on the new bridging DLC, which would help explain how the Reapers are getting here and possibly how much time gap there is between ME2 and ME3, and 2) when are we getting some new info on ME3? ^_^

OMG! I was so happy when I heard that they announced Mass Effect 3 once i get some money im gonna preorder it but now im wondering what will happen if someone tries to transfer a save file that had shepard die at the collector base will we get an error message or play as someone else?

Bioware has always said that a Dead Shepard= No ME3 transfer for you. I believe that the final save game is only made after you successfully complete the Final Mission so any save file where Shepard is dead will likely not even pop up as an option to import, but I might be wrong on that part.

I hope so. Maybe similar to the TOR vids. In one the Repears are winning (Earth), in another the turians or asari or whatever has won a battle over the Reapers in some way that is not revealed in the trailer.
