No, if Shepard died on the suicide mission you CANNOT IMPORT THAT SAVE INTO ME3. This has been confirmed, and it also says so during loading screens in ME2.

This can't be the entire Reaper force, unless their extended time in darkspace has seriously depleted their numbers.

Funny story. I just beat ME 2 again, setting up my Tali playthrough, with everyone alive. As I'm walking through one of the crew comments on how much he's looking forward to seeing his family on earth. I smile, save, turn off the game, find a link to this video and watch if for the first time before reading anything about what occurs. Bit of a gut punch, but in a good way.

Things to keep in mind, we don't know how the Old Machines got back or how many of them there are on earth. For all we know this is a small fraction of Old Machines sent via some means at great cost to T.O.M. to earth. As for Earth, well our protagonist is human, and has, on two seperate occasions, derailed their plans. It's simply the villains being dangerously Genre savvy.

Also I wouldn't call foul on the death toll when humanity has alreayd been shown to hit above their weight class throughout two games. I mean did you think earth was undefended?

Lastly. Until we know how they got to earth, let alone returned from Darkspace, let's not call foul.
