Well, unless your talking about Sniper dude, which makes no sense because he isn't a 'Space Marine', then am assuming your trying to be funny and proclaiming that Shepard is like Master Chief. When you seem to forget that unlike Master Chief, Shepard can be a woman! Not only a woman but you can change the skin tone too. ;)

Way off base (I haven't played a single Halo game in my life). I was refering to Bioware's (and all game developers) tendency to overuse white males as gaming heroes and (in addition) not use any female counterpart of that hero figure (female shep) in their marketing.

My "space marine" comment was in reference to sniper dude, but only in a general sense. A male soldier in a sci-fi setting. Has nothing to do with Master Chief.

Anyone notice the giant ferris wheel in futuristic London? At least that's what it looks like.

Dude, there's a big ass ferris wheel in London right now. Get to know the planet you live on.

Why would anyone know some secondary landmark from a country they didn't live in? I know I've heard about it in passing, but it's not like it gets a lot of focus. Hell, I'm pretty sure the only reason the world knows about secondary American landmarks is because of Hollywood.

It's not really secondary though...

Things Americans know in passing about London:
  • There's a Queen, lives in that palace with the fancy name and every Brit knows her personally.
  • Big Ben. It's there. Peter Pan flies around it.
  • If you've seen V for Vendetta, you know about the Old Bailey (whatever the hell that does) and Parliament.
  • The Thames, and it's filthy.

Excusing those, everything else no one (at least, no American) is bound to know.

I'm american and I know a pretty good amount of London.

That's exactly the point, London will fall/has fallen.

Well it's not essential to know, but it's good to have some knowledge of what's outside your country *shrugs*. Plus, Landan is a famous global city.  Meh, I suppose it won't matter to you unless you travel around.

its london! lol and in roman times it was called Londinium =P

What was the point of ME2? Seriously. What exactly did that game do to progress the Reaper plot?

The central plot of ME2 was about revealing the motivations of the Reapers.

And about Shepard building up a kick ass team to fight off the oncoming onslaught. Very, very relevant.

Yes, the squadmates recruited only for the suicide mission that could all die and thus won't be returning in a significant way for ME3. Yes... they'll be very useful against the Reapers.

The human-reaper was the only thing in ME2 relevant to the Reaper plot. The rest was filler. It was filler that made sense and was appropriate, but filler all the same.

Well here is my theory. I believe 5 squadmates will be coming back from ME2 (if they dont die of course.) Probably, Tali, Garrus, Mordin, Legion and Miranda/Jacob. Then there will be Liara and Wrex from ME1. And lastly we will have 5 more squadmates introduced in ME3.  This will ensure that even if you killed everyone off you will still end up with 6 squadmates in ME3 (5 new + Liara) the same amount as in the original. And if you saved everyone you will get 12, just like ME2. As for those without a save file theyll probably end up with 9 0r 10 squadmates.

This is the only solution that makes sense in my mind. And with Bioware you know they arent afraid to punish people for not playing the previous games as was the case in ME2 (No Wrex, no Conrad and others).

It must be a nightmare for those scripting the game, but thats the situation they put themselves in.

So yes, I still feel the characters and story in ME2 is very relevant. it did progress the plot because we know more about the reapers intentions and how obsessed they are with Shepard. It would only make sense that they go after his home world.

Most of ME2 isn't relevent because that's the only development of the Reaper plot. You don't figure any that stuff out until the very end. There's no progression until then and the rest of the game just is recruiting squadmates and gaining their loyalty.

I'm not surprised that the Reapers are targeting Earth. A human has destroyed 3 Reapers and stuffed a fourth. My guess is that they (Reapers) want to stop the biggest threat they've faced in their existence.

Three?  I thought it was just two?

Nope. Sovy in the first game. Derelict and Fetus in ME2. One big middle finger to Harby in ME2.

derelict was technically already destroyed

I told a friend of mine it was obviously Patrick Stewart. Because he's British, right?

That was a joke.

Earth won't take all that much gameplay. Remember it's just a reveal to show us that earth is beaing attacked and the Reapers have begun their assault. Some people are begining to get ahead of themselves by going inmto the specifics of the reveal too much.

I don't know....  I'm an American and I've heard of the eye of London, but I think it could "possibly" be summarized as secondary.

I think it would comparable to the St. Louis Arch-- a lot of people, most in fact, in the stares have heard of it, but a lot outside I imagine have not.

This is a good comparison.

I had heard of the eye of london, but had never really seen it or had been able to fathom how big it really was until i went to visit some friends in London.

The same went for them when they came to visit me and we drove from wichita to chicago, and went through st. louis, and they saw the arch for the first time. 2 of them had never heard of it or knew what it was, the other had never seen a picture or anything of it but had heard of it.

/sigh

That's not my point. My point is, most people don't. The London Eye is not that famous. It's famous enough, but expecting Americans to know what it is on sight is pure arrogance.

OK, bad time to announce, and probably bad date to launch. Arkham City, Witcher 2, Dragon Age 2, SWTOR and Mass Effect 3? Hard to choose a GOTY.

This post is on the second page and I haven't read the rest, but you are forgetting Uncharted 3. That's your GOTY right there...it was in 2007, in 2009 and will be in 2011. I love Bioware, but they haven't yet reached the level of quality that Naughty Dog is putting out with the Uncharted series.

In any event, can't wait for ME3. I liked the trailer a lot. I see a lot of people hating...I wouldn't worry about it too much :)

I think the ending of ME2 makes it completely obvious why the Reapers are attacking Earth. And its no surprise that Earth's standing military didn't stand a chance, since the only threat could come through The Charon relay, and that has a huge fleet constantly stationed there. So my question is did the Reapers reach Earth a different way (perhaps they have more advanced ftl drive) or did they blast through the fleet?

I mean, we're talking HUNDREDS of giant, sapient war machines against the military that is not expecting this to happen but also far less advanced.

I wonder where Sheperd is in that trailer? the Normandy most likely
Does anyone else think he/she might  try to gather allies in the Terminus systems too?

Good lord people. You really can't tell the difference between people with english accents can you? I promise you "Big Ben" is not voiced by Jason Statham or Simon Pegg.

Thanks, for a second there I thought I was stuck in a Jason Statham fangirl convention....<_<.  It doesn't sound like Statham AT ALL.  The accent and the enunciation reminded me of Sean Bean right from the get go.  I don't suppose anybody official is going to tell us who it really is??

I thought it might be Sean Pertwee first time I heard it, he does have form for VO work after all. Sounds familiar whoever it is.

Don't forget Elder Scrolls V and Deus Ex 3.  I'm telling you, 2011 will be the best year in gaming since 1998.
