And on another note...why is anyone surprised that their will be a plot device to hasten the arrival of Shepard's primary foe? Would you honestly be satisfied if you did not get a chance to hand the Reaper's their ****** at some point? If Mass Effect concluded (at least the original trilogy) without Shepard facing the Reaper's in this galaxy - I would be dissappointed. Do I hope that there is a solid explanation - of course. But I also have faith in Bioware to get it right.

Actually, he says two million dead the first day, seven million dead by the end of the week.

Maybe he's just talking about London? But...still...that's incredibly pathetic.

Not really... considering that in ME3's timeframe that would probably be at least 95% of London's population dead within a week.

Probably not. The population of London proper today is about 7.5 million, with the metropolitan area being about 13-14 million. By the 2180s that number would likely have doubled or tripled.

I don't think London as it is now is large enough for that kind of population growth. I think a population of about 10 million by 2180 is more realistic.

Edit: athough I accept that your projection could turn out to be more accurate.

I like that it's only a year away. They've basically had what, two years and maybe 2-4 months of development behind that? Since Hudson said they were working on it in Dec. 09', before Mass Effect 2 had come out.

That's not bad at all. Considering I bet they are using the same engine, maybe tweaking it a bit or whatever. If Bioware delivers with ME3, Mass Effect will be known as one of the greatest trilogies in entertainment. In total, I'm extremely pysched for this. And good thing Dragon Age 2 is coming out in March. That and ME2 DLC will hold me over till then.

And whether it's nine million world total or nine million in London....all that matters to Shepard is, "That's too much." or something similar. Whatever.

I have a feeling that the games end will actually not be focused on earth. That trailer and how it was done makes me think: this is urgent, from the get go. No way theres recruiting or preparing that can be done before hand. EARTH itself is at stake. So what is Shepard to do? Go straight there in the beginning with his ME2 crew. Perhaps some die, perhaps none due, then recruiting the guy in the trailer takes place, kick some reaper ass and THEN rally the other races and groups to your aid. against the BIG confrontation. Not all the Reapers can have arrived on Earth, otherwise it would have been whipped out in an instance.

Of course it will be more creative than all that rambling I just said, but, in a nutshell thats how I think ME3 will play out. With surprises thrown in. I could and possibly AM completely wrong, but from my understanding of Shepard and the threat that makes the most sense to me.

Either way, i can't wait!

I just don't want to feel like I'm being rushed,I mean I want to be able to like go to places and do little side missons on the citadel and stuff like on the first 2,like how the big missons don't trigger tell you complet a certan part of the game,so like in mass effect 3 in the begining you go on a misson and find out the reapers or coming so you start getting races and othe people to join you(with some side missons and other missons)then when your about done......the reapers attack and you have to choose between getting(alien army)to help or help earth, then the last half or so of the game is protecting other major planets from the reapers.but I want a ending where I can still fly around and do side missons at the end of the game like in me2,not like in me1 where it just ended

I wonder why everyone is adding the numbers up...did he say 2 mil + 7 mil OR 2 mil and then 7 mil by the end of the week (or 2 + 5 in other words)...anybody actually know for sure...oh hell, I'm gonna go check...

EDIT: ok, its 9 mil total.

Did I count right...6 reapers in the sky?

What do you mean by that?

Earth's population:
Population (Surface): 11.4 billion
Population (L4 and L5 stations): 250,000

Current population of London:
7,556,900

I counted eight Reapers in that trailer. Assuming projections of no more than five million (assuming about 80% increase proportionate to world population boosts), the Reapers were managed to take out a bit more than half of London.

If they're talking about the entire world...hardly a drop in the bucket.

Now, if they're harvesting us, obviously it must be going slower, but I can't imagine why it'd be only nine million. There would have to be more casualities.

"Now, if they're harvesting us" I don't think its a question of if. There isn't a high death toll because we've been chosen to become like them. Killing of billions of people would kinda defeat that purpose ya know?

That was awesome, have no idea whats going to happen in ME3, but thats the thing about rendered trailers. Hate'em, Love'em, they make you want to play a game.

9 million dead after a whole week on Earth?

Hahahaha.

What are they doing, smothering people to death with pillows? An Ohio class submarine could get 9 million people in under 30 minutes.

<_<

Mass Effect 1: "We have to stop the Reapers coming into the galaxy!"
Mass Effect 2: "We have to stop the agents of the Reapers from letting them return to the galaxy!"
Mass Effect 3: "Oh, well they just flew here, they didn't need to use the Citadel at all. And it only took like a few years so if they'd left at the end of ME1 they would have been here by ME2, and if they'd left like 1000 years ago when the Rachni wars failed for them, they would have been here before humans invented steam power."

+1

So... if we could have found a way to delay the ****'s from invading Europe for a couple of years to prepare, it would have been pointless?  ;)  9 million dead means they got a chance to prepare defences and weapons, to group theor forces, etc.

Is there really this many closed minded people around?  A lot of this sounds like complaining for the sake of complaining.  I mean, come on, use a little imagination.  I know most of you will have skipped over my suggestion of waiting for the game before you bash the entire thing based on a one minute clip or a single paragraph of text, but come on!

I agree Sky.  It's a complete lack of comprehension skills.  This is what he says word for word.

"2 million dead in the first day."
"Another 7 million by the end of the first week."
"Every defense annihilated."
"All our forces on the run regrouping somewhere."
"Reports are coming in from other major cities."  <--  This is the key to putting the rest into context

If you read the last part it should put the other things he said before into context.  When he says there's 9 million dead then he's talking about London.  When he says every defense annihilated he's talking about defense of the city.  When he's talking about all our forces on the run regrouping he's talking about HIS forces or London's forces.  If the other statements are representative of the entire planet then that last part doesn't make any sense.

This is what I'm wondering. I thought it was 2+7 mil, but it could be 7 mil total.

Edit: Just watched again its definately 9 million dead in the first week.

No he says 2 million dead the first day. "Another" 7 million by the end of the first week.  So he's clearly estimating 9 million.

Wouldn't the Alliance Military already be nearly decimated? It really looks like the Reapers are cleaning house.

Yeah...Yeah...but talk about "suicide mission"....these are some (seemily) seriously insurmountable odds...it wouldn't be much of a game if we didn't win.  But it gave me that "oh f***" moment, if you know what I mean.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Shepard and his team ends up sacrificing himself, seriously that just looks crazy.
