So ME1 and 2 were pretty much pointless?

Or did The Illusive Man let loose a few Reapers on earth to wake up the Alliance?

Unless the Reapers win I´d say they matter. You (possibly) got the allies and technology to deal with the Reapers in them.
ME still seems to follow the usual trilogy pattern: introduction, set up filler for third part, and resolution.

...with the DLC...

I got a feeling we'll be left with only promises like with ME1..."we were busy with the new installment, on top of that we finished it sooner than expected thus no need for new dlc material for ME2..." or something along the lines...

I just hope I'm wrong on this one. It would sadden me after LOTSB that turned out to be such fun.

Did anybody notice that the VTOLS in the trailer are the same as the ones in Crysis? http://crysis.wikia.com/wiki/VTOL

Read through most of this thread...and wow...lot's of assumptions being made over a teaser trailer!

Really can't tell anything from this trailer, it's just a teaser. However, if Bioware really is going to have the Reapers at Earth then they had better come up with a good explanation on how they got there or risk negating the first two games.

Of course, EA/Bioware could just say "tough, it's a fun game, just shut up and play it."

As others have said: Mass Effect 1 & 2 are definitely not pointless. You bring all your choises with you. And the Reapers can not use the shortcut to the galaxy (the Citadel), thus they do not have the advantage of surprise. This time we (Shepard and his crew at least) know they are coming.

OMG! can't wait for it! I dont think only earth is being attacked, maybe the attacks are happening in many worlds at the same time. Anyway, I hope this game be released next year, maybe in november.

p.s: I bet that queen thing we spared in noveria (dont know how to write her name) will join the war to help humans (It would be nice :)

Thank god it's London and not something like Washington D.C. I'm sick of America being the centre of the world in nearly every video game. Mass Effect 3 gets kudos points for that alone....

...though I dislike London anyway.

I also hope that the Reapers were smart enough to send some of them to the Citadel in order to take control of it and of the Mass Relays. And because they will prefer to use the Mass Relays instead of the unknown method they used to get here, I doubt they will close the Relays; they would just make sure that only Reapers can use relays, and that would not prevent the Normandy from using the Relays, because it has the Reaper IFF. It would be like the Omega 4-relay, only that this time, ships without a Reaper IFF can't activate a Mass Relay.

As for the ships that the other races will use to fight the Reapers, it is obvious that Shepard will let them make copies of the Reaper IFF.

But, of course, this is just a theory

If you remember the first game; the reapers attack the citadel (centre of politics) and SHUT DOWN the mass relays, this effectively leaves each inhabited planet alone and makes intergalactic travel/communication by anyone but the reapers impossible(FTL drives will take years, decades, centuries or more to cover the distances the relays permitted). They can then pick them off(as depicted them doing to earth) one by one as they please ( it is said something like “the process of wiping out a civilization is a long process”) without fear of massive defences or retaliations as fleets would be stuck wherever they were unable to co-ordinate a defence or rally to attack the reapers. Mass effect 2 was about them trying to get another reaper working in the galaxy to allow them to go through with their original plan.

What is different if they fly here is that the relay network is still intact, communications still intact- all the races can rally together forces to attack the reapers en mass- something they could not do if the reapers original plan of attacking the citadel and disabling the gate network worked.

I have mixed feelings about this trailer. We know what it tells us, but we know nothing about how much it tells us about the actual game.

Maybe we won't see anything of London or SniperBen in the game, maybe they are an integral part of the storyline. Maybe the scene takes place at the beginning of the game, or maybe all this happens close to the end of the story.

It is fun to speculate though.

What bothers me a bit is, if this is the situation at the beginning of the game, then rallying allies after that will take a lot of time, which makes earth a reaper occupied place for weeks or even months. That will put you as player under the feeling of time pressure right from the beginning of the game. I don't know if i like that idea, because it might give you the impression you have to rush through the game and persue the main storyline as quick as possible to end earth's suffering.

And then the writers should come up with a real good explanation of how the reapers got there so fast in the first place. They depended on a mass relay to get to the galaxy for millions of years. What changed that? Did they hail a taxi?

Wouldn't want to be in the writers shoes anyway. So much to consider, so many variables. Gives me a headache thinking about that. Telling such a story isn't so hard but at the same time giving the players the impression their past choices matter is. Good luck with that. But i'm sure they won't dissapoint us.

Can't wait to see more news about the game.

I just hope the reapers don't come till like 2/3 of the game(year or two in game years)so we have time to still walk around and do side missons and trying to get other races to help you(also some personal type missons for shepard and squadmates) and with some reaper themed missons here and there like with the collecter missons in me2,and have the last part of the game deffending major glactic places from the reapers;I just don't want the feel of being able to just go to planets and walk around feel to leave ,well at least in the first2/3 of the game like I said

I think it's possible that you may actually not be able to save Earth in this game and that the struggle will be to save the rest of galactic civilization.

You may to make a choice between saving several large human colonies or saving the citadel again.

If there's one thing I'm worried about it's that ME3 will be about saving Earth/humanity which would be a gigantic step down from saving galactic civilisation from the Reapers. The former is cheesy alien invasion movie and the latter is epic space opera (and was the premise set up from the beginning).

^Meh, that's a pretty tenuous resemblance. The difference is even clearer with a moving image.
