I'd just like to point out, since some folk are reading me the wrong way, that I don't claim to know what the whole game will be about, I'm merely voicing my opinion that I wouldn't like it IF the whole game was about saving Earth (I truly hope I'm wrong) - that's the feedback I'm offering, and Bioware wants our feedback to this trailer!

Furthermore, and most importantly, my worry isn't based on the trailer, it's based on the leaked game description, which strongly implies that the whole game is about rallying everyone to save Earth and humanity, with no mention of saving the galaxy.  Again, hope that's just an error EA made, and that I'm wrong.

Having said all that, I do love this trailer, I really do!

The Mass Effect 3 trailer on masseffect.com is titled "Earth", do you think that means that we'll get footage from other parts of the Galactic?

I seriously hope that's true!!!  That would be epic.  Reapers flooding in darkening the skies of every world.  That would be pure space opera epicness!

to all those who hate the fact Earth is the main topic in this trailer: we don't know the whole story, who what and where so either stfu or chill and wait

back when we saw ME2 reveal trailer, look how many empty and retarded speculations we had and how it end up with the actual story

I love this trailer soo much, it's like the biggest nerdgasm ever

Fantastic trailer, and I think everyone needs to calm down about multiplayer, which won't happen. Also, don't assume that things which happen in cinematic trailers are necessarily canon. ME2 cinematic w/ giant collector ship hovering wasn't.
Two most important things to add in ME3:

Helmet toggle

Closing song by Faunts.

Don't know if this has been suggested already, but I'm hoping we might get to play as the sniper from the trailer, rather like how we used Joker in one level of ME2.

I'd picture it as something like playing as Shepard we go to Tuchanka and recruit Wrex's coalition to help defend Earth, then we go on to the migrant fleet and start to negotiate a peace between them and the geth while they send some marines to Earth as well. During the negotiations, we then flash back to Earth and play as the sniper character for a mission that requires us to meet up with the quarian shuttle to guide the marines back to base. During the battle that ensues, a bunch of krogan show up and start helping out. Helps us see how bad things are on Earth while at the same time continuing the main story out in the galaxy.

Either that, or just have him be a recruitable team member, but they put a lot of work into his appearance if he's just going to appear in the trailer :)

lol i remember when everyone thought that shepard was dead. I seriously hope people aren't getting more enraged than when thinking that shepard was dead, because thinking shepard died was like thinking that i wasted about 100-140 hours of my life on absolutely nothing.

Why is there French hardcoded subs in the trailer?

Also, there are six reapers in London.

Considering that we only have a minute-long clip, I laugh at anyone who is complaining that Earth is the center and its so clichéd and blah blah.... Get a life and wait for more info to come before making your complaints!

You are completely right, unfortunately, this is likely all we'll get for the near future. We'll probably get a statement from Bioware in the next couple weeks saying stay tuned for more info but we'll probably have to wait a while for more solid information.

DA2 is right around the corner and Bioware is going to start pushing that pretty hard. They'll want to get the fans focused on that title without taking away from that by dishing out ME3 information (remember, we got the first teaser for ME2 in Feburary 2009 and didn't get another trailer until May).

Meh Star Wars: The Old Republic is Bioware's biggest project this year, and it's scheduled to release shortly after DA2. They got a lot of work to do lol.

True, but doesn't each game have their own dedicated team?  If so it's not like they're juggling their time.  Hell isn't there even a dedicated team for mass effect DLC?

It's important for me to say that I play Mass Effect because it's set in space.

See, I couldn't care less about the Earth in a sci-fi setting.

I'll have faith and wait for some other news.

Can I post some of my thoughts after watching the video?  This thoughts aren't necessarily new topics, but they are common threads of discussion for the thread:

Fair warning:  tl;dr.

Thought #1:  9 Million Dead.
Big Ben's exact quote is:

"Two million dead on the first day.  Another seven million by the end of the first week.  Every defense annihilated.  All our forces on the run... regrouping, somewhere.  Reports are coming in from other major cities.  It's a well coordinated attack, and so far it's been damned effective."

Point 1:  We are given no specific context for this death toll.  There is nothing to indicate that he is talking about a planet wide, continent wide, country wide, city wide death toll, or if he's saying that he watched that many people die from his sniper position in Big Ben.

Point 2:  We are given good reason to suspect that this is not a planet wide toll.  If reports are "just coming in" from "other cities," then we know several things:

1.  We do not have information from every city.
2.  Communications are down, or in ****-shape,  which makes sense.  It's been over a week and reports are "just coming in."  Taking down communications would be your first objective in an invasion.
3.  A random soldier, isolated on the battlefield, is not going to have up to date or widespread knowledge.  More likely, he was briefed on the death toll in London before going out in his specific city to try and fight the reapers.  Really, why would a soldier need to be briefed on the planet wide situation.

Point 3:  Already pointed out:  if you're up on your grammer, the context of the quote is:  "Situation A:  9 million dead.  Sitation B:  The rest of the planet."  So, the way the quote is worded, it sounds like the 9 million dead is a seperate issue from the effectiveness of the planetary assault.

Point 4:  Already pointed out:  The reapers want to harvest humanity (and presumably all organics).  Not just wipe them out completely.

Thought #2:  Why invade earth?

ME2 established that the Reapers are pretty keen on harvesting humanity.  If they consider Humanity their greatest threat and their most valuable asset, it only makes sense invading earth first.

Another good point, already brought up, is the proximity of our "Local" system to the exterior edge of the galaxy:
http://www.platformn...-effect-map.jpg

It's not the closest thing to the origin of the reapers, but it seems like the target that is both closest and a high priority for attack.

Finally, in the end of ME2, The Human fleet is currently the strongest in the galaxy.  The other races were still reeling from getting their asses handed to them in the end of the first game, and presumably rebuilding their forces is going to take a long time.  I think it's safe to assume that Humanity is still in a position of dominance at the beginning of ME3, and if the reapers wipe out the Human race first, the rest of the galactic genocide will be relatively smooth sailing.

Thought #3:  The Reapers are not smaller, calm the F' down.

Ya'll seem to forget about this thing called "perspective."  Ya'll also seem to have these rosey memories of Sovereign being the size of Jupiter.

Compare the existing pictures of Soveriegn landing on Eden Prime, or fitting comfortably within the arms of the Citadel with enough extra room for frigates to fly around attacking him.  ETC:

Eden Prime:
http://3.bp.blogspot...- Sovereign.jpg

Sovereign + Geth Ships, Which you remember were not that huge, and in fact were small enough to be killed easily via the Mako or SAM turrets in ME 1.
http://img301.images...nap26212fd6.jpg

Sovereign dwarfed by the citadel, and more comaparable in size to the Turian ships than any of the other rediculous exagerations seen on this forum:
http://i.ytimg.com/v...kiiopocDA/0.jpg

NOW:  Look at the trailer, what do we see?  We only get a quick glimpse of the Reapers---they're on screen for about 7 seconds, from 0:45 to 0:52.  We also ge this glimpse as part of a massive panoramic sweep of all of London.  This is a masssive camera pan, take for a minute and think about the scale of *everything* in the shot.  Then consider that we never get a good look at the reapers.  In 7 seconds we see 4 reapers in the midst of this rapid and incredibly deep camera pan.

http://fc06.devianta...szi-d34syoj.png
The reaper furthest back is some miles away, on the horizon of the shot, and therefore appears small:  It looks exactly the same size Sovereign looked on Eden Prime when you saw it from far away... If anything, it looks bigger than soveriegn since it seems to be a similar size from a greater distance.  The distance here is greater than 10 miles, IMO.

The next closest Reaper is still far away.  It is across the river from Big Ben, which a quick trip to google maps will tell you is a distance between 1.2~1.7 miles, depending one exactly where that bad boy is on the other bank.  At this distance, still a rather large distance, the panorama contains all of Big Ben, but just the "tentacles" of the closer reaper ship.  Obviously this reaper is massive in scale.

Finally, the closest reaper drops a tentacle right next to Big Ben.  This Tentacle alone completely dwarfs big ben:
http://fc06.devianta...szi-d34szls.png

In fact, this tip of the tentacle is bigger than the entire clock tower, roughly double the height.  Lets do some math, shall we?  The tower is 316 feet tall, acording to Wikipedia.  So if we assume that a tentacle tip is 632 feet long, and we look at the earlier picture of Sovereign that I posted next to the geth ships, where the entire length of sovereign is about 16 or 17 tentacle tips, then we could estimate the last reaper in the trailer to be about 10,112~11,744 feet long.  This gives a total reaper length of 2 miles, the exact same size of the derelict reaper from ME2.  http://masseffect.wi...Derelict_Reaper

In short,  the reapers are the correct size.

Thought #4:  That is definitely Jason Stathom.
And I hope he is a squad mate.

Then why did the Reapers hire the Collectors in ME2 to create ONE of their own if they could simply take a walk through the galaxy and do the job themselves?

I know there are answers, and this same thought has been expressed many times already, but this turn of events makes ME2's plot incredibly weak. Seems like if you just took that chapter away, the timeline from ME1 to ME3 would flow much better.

But again, I'll have faith and wait for something new.

Sorry to burst your bubble there, but doesn't this look way too much like War of the Worlds on steroïds? Tripods, for Christ's sake? HG Wells must be rolling in his grave.

A bit of creativity would make up for the money we'll put on the table.

So much hate toward the earth being invaded part. It's just a taste of what's to come. Stop whining. What did you expect? Earth to be left untouched?

First people want to go to earth. Then people want to see the reapers IN Earth. Now they finally give it to us and you complain?

Some gamers are so ungrateful.

I personally love the VGA teaser. FINALLY GONNA GO TO EARTH!!!! THANKS BW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9 million dead after a whole week on Earth?

Hahahaha.

What are they doing, smothering people to death with pillows? An Ohio class submarine could get 9 million people in under 30 minutes.

<_<

Hey if you had a super badass army that could destroy the galaxy without any fear of loosing ... You would take your time , and enjoy every second . Even more if you where waiting as long as the reapers ;)

I love the teaser too.  And I'm glad we're seeing Earth (I've asked for it before several times in the past).  I just hope the entire game isn't about saving Earth.  Based on the game description (not the 1 minute teaser), it looks like that will be the case.  I hope it isn't.  I hope saving Earth is just the start, because this trilogy is so much more epic than that.  The mission has been about saving all galactic civilisation, not just one species, from the reapers - hopefully that focus hasn't changed.

Exactly, but it's just gonna be ME3's Eden Prime so Im not worried. BW knows better. It wouldn't have felt the same way if it would have been some random planet. earth gives us the feel of hoplesness (specially since me and my shepard were born there!).

For me, seeing this trailer of Earth evolved in the conflict is refreshing. It makes it personal. It makes it feel like we are actually a part of this story. It reminds you that Earth is important to your character and not something forgotten. I have saved every other planet and station in the galaxy. Why not Earth? I hope we have battles and adventures all over the galaxy but it's time that Shepard saves the home team. My only hopes are for more story and not having to recruit a whole new team.

I completely agree.  That is why I have issue with going to Earth.  It isn't JUST about humanity and, like you, I hope that focus does not change in ME3.  The game description clearly reads "rally the other galactic civilizations and launch one final mission to TAKE BACK Earth."

Seems pretty obvious what the point of the game will be. unfortunately.  Personally, I would like the beginning of the game to include a mission on Earth in which Shepard gets his a** kicked, you lose 1-2 ME2 squadmates, have to retreat, and try to find some other way to defeat the Reapers.
