OMG! Shepherd has to save the Queen!!!

Does this mean we have to change our national anthem to "Sheploo save the Queen"? Or maybe "Land of explosive barrels and chest-high walls"?

On a serious note: I think the Earth-scenes are just some illustration of an ongoing invasion in all of "Light-space" In future trailers we wil probably see the impact on other planets.

I'll go out on a limb here, and speculate like mad:

Imagine, the soldier You're seeing is recruitable, and that the ME3 shepard or some offspring, will be travelling to many besieged planets to get the best team-mates. I can even envision that the (now transformed by Legion's virus ,might the player have chosen that) Geth-homeworld is the only one holding off the Reapers, {--- because the Reapers, themselves being non-organics/machines gone bonkers, fear a world-wide artificial machine-brain, given that world-brain could be their equal and spam them to death or something.. :D ---}  and are harbouring the Quarians that survived the initial attack on the migrant-fleet by the reapers..oops..did I say that out loud:pinched:?? It seems logical ,because I read somewhere that Bioware wanted to resolve the "Quarian-thing" in ME3 as part of the story.. Shepard WILL need Quarians if he wants to succesfully build the super-relay to get to the Prothean home-world.

Part of the end-battle will be fought in the Local Cluster, but Bioware cannot go too fantastical with our well-known neighbouring planets..soooo..I truly think the final giant battle will be after the team has gathered masses of clues all over the galaxy and finds the home cluster/world of the Protheans(say, via a new Omega 7 -for luck- relay, constructed out of parts hidden all over the galaxy by the Protheans..parts&clue-gathering is standard lore in RPG's, so, why deviate?), and consequently get the ultimate weapon, which in turn ,combines with human and turian, quarian, whatever ingenuity to wipe out the Reapers for good.

Seems the most logical chain of events..

just my 0.02 credits..

It would be nice to go charging down the roads and alleys of London hunting down husks and what ever the reapers are going to be throwing our way...

No, more like: pointing at the reapers and going "Every crab is luchmeat" on the melody of "every sperm is sacred"

Either that, or we are getting "Hellgate London" as it was actually meant..

All right, to all the people complaining about Earth being in the trailer. As you say, you have the right to form an opinion. But please do consider that this is the first teaser trailer, and we have an entire year to go before the game comes out. Saying 'OMG They RUINED it I won't buy this crap!!!!' at this point is pretty ridiculous. Don't tell me you didn't expect Earth to be crucial in the endgame. Or if you did, perhaps take a look at the first two games again. We did not play as a turian, asari, salarian, elcor, volus, quarian, etc. We played as a HUMAN. Meaning, Earth holds a greater emotional value in the story than any other planet, whether you like it or not. Also, what's this about 'humans suddenly became the focus of the series'?

When we first set out in ME1, we were hunting a rogue Spectre who was supposedly trying to wipe out humanity. Then, as the story progressed, we learned that the entire galaxy was at stake. In ME2, we were trying to stop the Collectors, who were abducting HUMAN colonists. Not asari, not turian. Yet again, we later learned about their true motives and that they were a danger to the entire galaxy. Notice a pattern? It has always been about humans.

Also, I hate to break this to all those who claim that they're making the game better by complaining, but that is not true. What you do when jumping to the conclusion that the game's a piece of crap after seeing a one-minute footage that, judging by the tendency so far, probably isn't even taken directly from the game, is NOT constructive criticism. It is called flaming. The devs won't learn anything new when they read that--they already know they can't appeal to everyone.

And don't tell me that you hate that Earth will be the focus of the game until you know for a fact that it's really so. If I showed you a Star Wars trailer that has only footage from Tattooine, will you conclude that the entire 2+ hours of the movie take place there? If I showed you some Eden Prime footage from ME1 would you think the entire game is only about defending some no-name human colony? Do try to be just a little more reasonable.

And before anyone accuses me of blindly worshiping Bioware, I do not. There were things I didn't like in ME2, there are things I don't like in the news about DA2. But I reserve judgement until I start playing the game, and that method has payed off so far. It also helpes if you have realistic expectations. Saves you a lot of disappointment in life.

It seems as Bioware listened to the suggestion of some players to involve Earth a bit more. But I would be dissappointed if everything resolved around earth. Quarians, Rachni seemed to be promising players. Also, my bet is that there will be sort of a genocide weapon against the Reapers. It just fits the theme, think of the Rachni´s and the Krogan´s fate. And I am 100% sure this weapon will come along with some secret faction which we did not meet yet, which charged the weapon with dark energy, sucked from various stars, as we experienced in ME2.

I agree with Levannar. There's not enough to judge it by yet.

I doubt much of the game will take place on Earth, even if the attack is in the opening of the game, Shepard is a soldier with a rifle. He's not gonna be taking down the reaperson foot in London. I would thnik it's more likely the game will be about rallying allies, maybe finding some kind of weapon like the one that killed the 37 million year old dead reaper in ME2. Or these beings of light the billionairre volus was looking for!

my 2 cents:

No matter what Shepard do or who he brings to the fight, the Reapers fleet is so much for them to hold, so when all seems to go to the end of the galaxy civilization, Shepard goes all Bazinga!!! and call the remaining fleet to the Citadel, activate it's relay function and go throught it to the other side, trying to escape their iminent destruction. There they find out what motivates the Reapers, their origin, and more important, their weakness or a way to disable their shields, and then, they come back to the Milk Way kicking their crab asses out of the galaxy.

Or maybe I'm just too high right now lol.

Remember, they're in space. 'Up' doesn't necessarily mean 'North'. That said, it looks to me more like a coastline. Perhaps the Scandinavian Peninsula? If we assume the burning part is Britain.

I keep thinking that river is the nile, but it doesn't quite look right... who knows.   The burning part makes up a bigger area than the UK (not saying that some of it couldn't be though)

While "Earth attacked" and needs to be saved is cliche and old so is the one about the Galaxy being attacked and needs to be saved. However we do have something to go by in that the next infodump we'll get on ME3 should be around February/March which is the next GDC event (as I recall - I might be wrong on the date). Pretty much expect the same pattern of release (and it does look like the same type of marketing in general terms) as we got for ME2. About the ONLY thing I do expect is that we'll see 1 more piece of DLC and that will be it for ME2. Remember the game goes gold about 3 months before release and that means about 9-10 months before we'll have an official release date.

Madden is the only game that goes gold that early.  A month, month and a half is more likely.

In the interview on G4 for the GOTY Casey said they were going to take us in "directions" nobody would expect.

So until I play this game I'm not going to panic.

When the 1st trailer for ME2 came out and we saw Shepard KIA people freaked out.
And for what?  Absolutely nothing.

BioWare looks after their fans and they DO LISTEN to their fans.

So everybody calm down and wait till they play ME3 before hitting the panic button.

    P.S.
I will be disappointed if we don't have the crew we've had throughout the series.

         P.P.S.
If they didn't die that is.

Maybe it's just because I'm British, but seeing London circa 2186 being attacked by Reapers was a pretty refreshing sight. Mass Effect is a space opera IP that always seems to have gone the extra mile to make itself plausible, but seeing a squadron of Mantis gunships weaving between the London Eye while Reapers descend over Big Ben did a fantastic job of bringing the Reaper threat home (no pun intended). I'd assume that what we were seeing in that trailer is Earth's view of galaxywide invasion, as oppose to Earth specifically being attacked.

I'm stoked for this. Looking forward to 2011. :D

Actually, I'm looking forward to shepard ramming that stupid turian's councillor's face into a view screen saying 'go on bird-man, dismiss those theories!'

I am wondering when the soldier said "if shepard doesn't bring help soon...there won't be an Earth to save" and then we see shepard walking away... does anyone else think is might be possible in ME3 we may decide the fates of certain planets by when we reach them?
For example lets say we have Earth, the Citadel and Illium, ignoring side quests, companions quests etc or what ever bioware has in store. If we choose to save earth first we would find the other two with fewer survivors, less troops or even just conquered by the reapers?
It might be interesting to let us decide which forces/races we would deem as valuable in the final battle and the ending would reflect that?

Sounds like a viable posibility. Although I reckon it will be the other capital planets (Palaven, Thessia and the Salarians). Save them or Earth?

I'll admit I've been guilty of "flaming", as it was called. Not for anger or because I'm a mindless blob, but from fear from the game description. It was never the trailer...I expected Earth to be in the game, was just afraid it would be the center of the game because of the written description.

Since the Geth have no worries about Indoctrination or Indoctrination effects, they're sort of lucky.

Well, the dying part in the start was pretty... I mean, c'mon, you add heat, impact, and freezing to human brain cells and they die. And when brain cells die it's good bye memories.
Sure, it looked cool to fall into atmosphere but to revive anything from that state would require time reversal and nothing less.

About the third one's trailer, I've been discussing about it with people, and it's mostly from "meh" to "cool". What we all agreed on is that it sure as hell doesn't feel like Mass Effect. Compare it to the awesomeness that was the "Distress Call" teaser for Mass 1. Now would you rather be exploring the colorful galaxy, doing grim choices, and dropping into enemy territory with a group of fellow soldiers, or listening from space how some random generic brit space marine cries about how their asses are getting kicked in a very grey, unappealingly familiar London?

Can't say anything about the game itself, and if I didn't have some faith in it I wouldn't be here ranting. But let's face it: compared to some of the greater game trailers (distress call, mad world, ODST, Wrath of the Lich King, the new Deus Ex, hell, even GTAIV) we've seen in the past, this teaser was pretty crappy, considering the credibility this series otherwise has. And by crappy I mean lame. Well, at least it had a few good seconds at the end where the good ol' theme plays.

Of all places to pick for a reveal. London.

THANK YOU <3.

I live in london, I've seen it all, and that soldier in big ben just made me so excited.

I am actually annoyed how early it seems to be coming out. I know there's a year to go, but I actually think it's a little too soon. I am seriously eager to see what they'll do to the 6 classes. That's my main focus. Infiltrator for the win :)

I do not know if this was said yet but the guy in the trailer sounds like Simon Pegg. He is the guy from Hot Fuzz. I could be wrong but it sounds like him.
