I find myself agreeing with grifter, it seems that this community has taken a turn in a rather unpleasant direction lately... I mean, after two absolutely stellar games with tight, impressive storytelling, there are still a lot of people who seem to think that they can do a better job.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but currently, we simply don't have enough information available to formulate the pessimistic views that so many posters make.

Please don't let this become like the Halo community. (Sorry, but when there are seven posts just complaining about the same one thing in caps, you gotta wonder....)

"Can you do better?" is not a valid counter-argument against criticism. Finally there is some info about Mass 3. So, naturally this is the point where people start forming their views of the game. And I find it great that people share those views. I am happy to find that there are still pessimistic people in this world, mostly because pessimists usually actually express what makes them unhappy, while the idiotic optimist subrace just goes with two or three lines which usually are "This is awesome!", "Can't wait!", "Beyond epic!" in that or other order.
If you loving ones want to be taken seriously, start giving more of those thorough analyses on why this trailer is so great.
Besides, a pessimist will never be dissapoint in the final product.

And even if the Tali fanclub doubled its population, and they all would suddently spread into other threads like a disease, the quality would still be considerably better than in the seventh column.

Good question. Reapers won`t be defated in my opinion. It will be one big war and it won`t end in ME3. To fast.

I have other question. Will we be able to explore other planets? Or whole game will be on Earth? Actually I don`t mind. It will be cool to see futuristic Earth in war, from London to New York.

Shepherd should join forces with MacGrubber.

To perhaps give a bit of perspective on how 'generic' the trailer is and how little info it conveys perhaps you might want to look at

THIS

Nice Job Bioware.  My 2011 will be the slowest year in my life.  I am sure no matter the plot, this game will be EPIC (even if we have to shoot mines at a globe target for hours upon hours :o

PROBE AWAY!

Hmm if the reapers blew up the jump gate in the Earth's solar system wouldn't that make it imposable for the Earth to be saved?

Nope. Ships also have FTL drives that allows them to travel to systems that do not have Mass Relays. Basically its what you do in ME2 all the time when you leave one system to reach another in the cluster. What is affected is how long it takes you to get there. Relay jumps are near instantaneous while FTL travel could take weeks to move the same distance.

Bioware's game forums are filled with some of the most pretentious fans I have ever seen. Not an OMGAMAZING trailer, but you know what? Neither was TE5's trailer, "There will be Dragons, and they will fear you."

And yet people are harping on TE5's trailer. Really? What a joke.

Stupid taking a stance on something imaginary? No. Drawing lines between random subjects and assumptions is the very basis of imagination. Do you think that we should be here actually predicting what Mass 3 will be instead of what it could be?
And I sure as hell can and will be expressing my dissapointment if Mass 3 strays too far from the expected. And by too far I mean so far that it breaks the continuity. Doesn't mean it would necessarily be a bad game but just not true to the spirit. Think about the relationship between Alien, the movie that defined scifi and horror for me, and its idiotic and indelicate, but surprisingly entertaining sequel.

The kind of familiarity that comes from well-known real-world landmarks in fiction storytelling is bad because it distracts. Monuments usually draw attention to themselves. You have tons of own memories that will awaken and pull you out of the moment. I admit that it can be rather varied from person to person, but it should still exist in everyone at some level. As graphics are what they are, there will be a rather nasty crisis in your mind when your subconsciousness starts to process the errors it gets when comparing the game's interpretation of Big Ben to your mental image of Big Ben.

I think you've misunderstood me here. I'm not saying that you should or shouldn't have an opinion on what's being displayed so far. I'm not even saying that you should or shouldn't express it. All I'm saying, ultimately, that the knowledge big ben is in the game is not a sensible indicator of whether or not the game will be any good.

It's got nothing to do with subconscious, spirit, the nature of the mind or any of the other nonsense you've mentioned above. It's a simple matter of overreaction.

The game description basically says so.  Presumably it's optional though.

The current assumption is that it is a husk or some sort of indoctrinated humanoid.

If they can't be stopped at all, then what would be the point of having a trilogy (a story with a beginning, a middle and an end)?  You can't leave a trilogy on a cliffhanger.  ME1 established very clearly what the whole trilogy would be about: Shepard stopping the reapers from wiping out galactic civilisation.

I hope Mass Effect pushes this a little into the metaphysical, too. Not too much, the way Assassin's Creed did, but in s subtle yet distinct way while giving more characterization and depth to who the Reapers are, truly are, and uncovering the mystery.

In this, we need to remember two things:

1. The Reapers are starships.

2. We were told one of the many important incorporated themes was the dangers of AI. We are exposed to the negative with the Geth, the positive with EDI.

Sovereign itself hinted at something."There is a realm of existence so far beyond (our) own, (we) could not even imagine it."

Realm, mind you, not state of being. A realm is a territory or could possibly be characterized as a dimension itself.

Just a theory: We know how the Reapers view us. We are nothing compared to them. They view us as bacteria. Yet they are extremely interested in humanity. They respected us, assumingly, after we destroyed Sovereign. Did they maybe think that this was impossible? Did they start harvesting us via Collectors because they knew something wasn't right? Would Reapers really want to reproduce with us over one Reaper's death? Maybe, if the respect was high enough. But I theorize that there was once a race of organics that traverse galaxy's like we traverse systems. Each galaxy with one Mass Relay leading to dark space. A long time ago, these organics were terribly advanced, and so was their technology. Their ships were terribly advanced, and had their own intelligence. Not wanting to be slaves of the organics, the Reapers wanted independence, and were tried to be stopped, ala Quarian and Geth. There was a war, and the Reapers won. Being the pinnacle of evolution and existence, the entire universe at their control, they could simply take organics' produce and technology, wiping them out periodically to stem any advancement. Or are they looking for something? Did the Protheans meddle with the organic evolution of our species, as suggested? Did the Protheans instill in our genome something the Reapers fear, and thus take us very seriously?

All wild and fanatical concepts, sure. But I see this theory or idea as at least building a stairway to possible metaphysical correlation with the already unbelievable characterization, emotion and depth of Mas Effect.

If Mass Effect 3 is done superbly, Mass Effect will not only be the greatest science fiction story ever, but the greatest piece of fiction ever.

If the general premise of my idea is correct, humanity would be the ultimate harvest for them. Through us, we could then push the Reapers into a state of being infinitely above what they are now.

And through them, humanity could ascend to the brink of gods.

Renegade ending, anybody?

Well i've been told by Bioware that when the trilogy ends.. the story of Mass Effect doesn't end.. they're probably gonna make a lot of spin-offs.. where you can maybe play as other races..

I hope the story of Shepard and the Reapers ends in ME3 and there is NO multiplayer in ME3.

Then, I hope Bioware releases a purely muiltiplayer game involving the Mass Effect universe.  Something along the lines of World of Warcraft or something similar.

Sorry but I had to correct that!  Yes they will make spin-offs.  That's not in conflict with what I said though...  The story of the trilogy ends with the third game because the trilogy is one big story - it's not episodic like Stargate SG-1.

They've pretty much said that story ends with ME3.  It wouldn't make sense for them not to anyway.  It would be like if they never got off the island in Lost.

Indeed that would be a epic Renegade ending, though I see that there is more to the Repears then what meets the eye, I believe there is something more grand to the Repears then anything. Because we don't know alot about the Repears, we only know from what we learned from the protheans.

From what I think, we will possibly encounter other races that have been at war with the Repears for awhile, see in ME1&2 we only traveled in the Miliky way Galaxy, we haven't went any farther, from what we know there could be other galaxies that have races, empires, and nice scumbags of the universe that could be against us or with us against the repears.

I personally can not picture a good Paragon ending.

Definitely - we spent so much time dealing with the collectors that we could just slap the final cutscene from ME2 onto the end of ME1.  That void needs to be filled!
