Damn--Out of the frying pan and into the Reaper induced fire. Tough break buddy.
-----------------------------------------------
I think people need to pay attention to a couple of things:
1. The trailer is titled Earth. Pretty safe bet that title indicates that we will see other places under attack.
2. The trailer does not depict game events in exact detail---the ME2 Cinematic trailer shows things that happen in the game, but then again not quite. We See Thane fight Eclipse mercs, but he assassinates a human male. We see jack escape on her own. We see Grunt take out the Thresher Maw by himself. We see a collector **** that is omgwtf times bigger than the one in game.
All of that is just to say: don't get hung up on details people.

Geth and Quarians have already been mentioned, but how about your influence on Tuchanka? Your choices there can also have quite the impression on the next game.
Yeah, having just finished replaying the game, the whole Geth/Quarian conflict is probably one of the main themes of Mass Effect 2.

Meaning:
Earth: heart of the Alliance, the war horse of Alliance.
Palaven: Turian homeworld
Thessia: Asari homeworld
Sur'Kesh: Salarian homeworld
All major governments that make the Citadel government "THE Citadel Government"
When these major Governments that have power, are taken out it will cause wide spread panic and chaos, also in a tactical sense this move will hit the council hard and fast, making the council fight argue and hate each other on some note, because now they have to choose who to defend and where to strike, and since humanity has been under attack they can not ask for assistance from the Alliance. Also from a tactical stand point Earth will be either the last or the first target out of the whole invasion. And while they make choices the Repears will hit the Citadel, not because its there but because they will cut the head off the worthless annoying snake that in thier minds deserves to die.
IF Earth is the first target it would explain the reason for calling for aide and support before the fall and would give Shepard time to evaluate the situation from a larger stand point.
IF Earth is the last target to get hit by the invasion, then going for help would only being be from; another galaxy or another area where war is being held but not much chaos and dead lying around, but also remeber since Earth is the last target it will be easy for Shepard to say that are "our last stand is in the SOL System" and easier to convince those races to come to our aid, also vice versa.
Earth of course is not the main point of the game even though the discription says so doesn't mean we have to follow it, yes we have to save the whole Galaxy but we have to pick where to start, either we save the humans first then work our way up, or save the rest of the races first then come with a Massive Force and strike and conduct operations to save Earth and conduct one final operation to destroy the Repears once and for all.
This is why I hope ME3 is about a good 48 hours of gameplay cause it will explain every detail we are looking forward too.

What do we do now? Wait for more trailers? A short debut trailer isn't gonna tell us anything.
Considering the giant drought we had between the original ME and the ME2 announcement trailer, learn some patience dood.

Doesnt Harbinger say "We will turn your homworld into a labratory"? And whats the plot gonna be for ME4? ME3 suppose to be the end of the Shepard trilogy.
No if ME4 does exist after ME3, then it will ruin Mass Effect as a whole...... I believe alot of bad things will happen in ME3 and a few good things, some will rip our emotions apart and will tear us to the ground, some things that will happen make us want to kill the Repears and rip off thier ways of reproduction! But I do not believe ME4 will be made.
Thats why I believe ME3 will be longest game to have alot of gameplay that is more then 30 hours long, it has to be because it will be epic

Now I know many people will argue that stopping them at Earth will mean saving the galaxy - but the problem many folk have with that is that the game will feel like we're saving Earth first, and that saving the galaxy will feel epilogueal (+100000pts for inventing new word). I'm fine if this is just one possible playthrough of the game that's available for the renegade pro-cerberus players. For the paragon spectres though, I think the primary, not secondary, focus should be saving the galaxy, not Earth, and that the final battle should be somewhere else, because symbolically I think this would not conflict with the original premise. AGAIN, glad as hell that Earth is apart of it, and I completely agree that it makes it more personal - but I really hope, at LEAST for the paragon pro-galaxy players, that Earth is just an initial chapter in the game, and that saving the galaxy is the primary focus, as it was in the first game.
V%&?#%$!!!
So, to save Earth you should be a renegade? And a full Cerberus supporter?
NO.
I reject your ideas and substitute my own. You read too much into this and give too muhc significance to the location of the battle.
Now I want to see the WHOLE GAME taking place on Earth...just to spite you.

You know I actually want a point in ME3 where some of your crew would be willing to turn on you if things didn't go right.
Wasn't something like done in Dragon Age? If your actions did not suit your companions they would leave you? That would be a good asset for a game like this. Specially after all the loyalty missions in ME2

A game based on Revelation would be awesome...we could all use more Saren in our gaming. It will be interesting to see what BioWare does. I just hope EA doesn't bleed the IP.

Mass Effect 4 will never be made. Now, a fourth game is likely, but it will likely have a sub-name like the books. There is much to explore after this trilogy, and maybe an entire new trilogy with an entire new plot. In those games, I'd be open to co-op and multiplayer....if it is a must.

Either a game based on Revelation or the game being based on the First Contact War. Or a game of the Protheans of where ther is a side story of where they could have won but failed which resulted in the ultimate result of death for the Protheans

I believe Shepard's story should end at some point. I also believe the ME universe is very rich and can easily accommodate other stories. Maybe smaller in scope than saving the universe three times in a row, but just as entertaining.
As for the trailer... why are the Brits still using regular old bullets? The thing ejected from the rifle definitely looked like a bullet casing rather than a heat sink at any rate.

Instead of blasting a thorough, logical opinion baselessly, people should create an intelligent counterargument.

Wow. Where did I even say that? Not only have you completely misinterpreted a small chunk of my post, but you've pretty much ignored most of what I'm saying. Furthermore you're just being needlessly insulting.

I just hope that depending on your actions (or inaction) in the finale could result in all life on Earth or anywhere else for that matter purged in a rather severe downer ending.
