And that's before we even get to the Asari.
"Have you ever faced an Asari commando squad before?"

I wanted to visit earth then and hoped that it would play a bigger role in the Mass Effect Universe ever since: but i'm not so sure that it will, i`ll come back to that.Seeing Shepard alive is the other thing that gave me goose bumps. In ME2 after the destruction of the Normandy SR-1, i feared that BioWare was going to pull a Metal Gear Solid 2 and change who the main character of the game was.I'm glad to see that they didn't.
I think that earth may be decimated by the Reapers: if so, then it will make it clear that no ones homeworld is safe.I don't want to see earth annihilated, but i`m kind of more interested to see how the Council will react to incontravertible evidence of the Reapers exisitence!! Ever since my childhood, i've had a question about humans in the Star Wars Galaxy. Where did they come from? ME3 may answer that question, in a way.If Earth is gone, than all humanity will have is thier colonies on other worlds and immigration into other alien dominated settlements, akin to humans in the Star Wars Universe.

9 million dead after a whole week on Earth?
Hahahaha.
No, in London only. As the sniper guy said, they have no contact with other cities. Casualties may be anything between 5 and 8 billions. Out of 11 billions of earthliving humans. Considering that colonies hardly reach 10millions of inhabitants, one week seems to be enough for the Reapers to extinguish humanity.

It makes zero sense for BioWare to do anything but focus on the plight of humanity.
That may be all and well for someone who prefers a more human-centrist, Cerberus route, but not for other players. Just because Commander Shepard is a human does not stop them from being a key participant in galactic issues, even more so than others depending on choices in ME1 and 2.
I am not asking for a game to detail a godlike Shepard superhero/heroine flying about and solving all of the galaxy's problems one-by-one. That would be too much and plain ridiculous. Though I am at the least hoping for not only some variation depending on player actions, but also for what the first two games established, a "Reaper threat pertaining the entire galaxy, not just Earth", to be appropriately addressed.
I hope it's gonna be more than just the humans. Kinda sucks if it's just about humans, which I doubt. I trust Bioware and this will hopefully be the best game in the series

Maybe this is a stupid question, but are we playing as Shepard or this new guy in the trailer?
Just think that one through for a second...
There you go.

What? I haven't been following every scrap of news about ME3 and it's not like Bioware haven't changed the main character on DA2. So if you've got nothing to offer except being a condescending ass then maybe you should go elsehwere.

I have a low tollerance for people who can't work Google I'm afraid. Official synopsis lifted from the Wikipedia article on the game, EA's store, Bioware's website, the Mass Effect wiki, pretty much every retailer carrying the game...
Earth is burning. Striking from beyond known space, a race of terrifying
machines have begun their destruction of the human race. As Commander Shepard,
an Alliance Marine, your only hope for saving mankind is to rally the
civilizations of the galaxy and launch one final mission to take back
the Earth.

But what if.... they pull a Bungie/Halo 2.... and we play like, the first mission as Shepard, and then it switches to that guy???? I'm not normally one to come up with ****** theories like this, but I don't know, the thought just crossed my mind. Like, the game has you switch back and forth between Shepard gathering an army and then the soldier defending Earth? It's far-fetched, but I mean, it has been done before lol...

I'm hoping they go for a LotR/B5-esque set-up; Shep and co starting the game leading a failing defense of Earth, before being forced to head off and unite the Citadel Races to come to humanity's aid.
Sounds a lot like Shepard and Co starting the game leading a failing defense of The Normandy, before being forced to head off and recruit the best of the best of the best of the best to come to human colonies' aid... doesn't it?
Now, where did we see that before?...
About the Trailer, "If Shepard doesn't bring help soon, there'll be no Earth left to save."
Sounds grand, sounds great, sounds important, sounds epic... but what's the 'to save' doing there?
Why didn't he stop at , there'll be no Earth left??

I think that guy on trailer will be next "Commander Shepard", only if your died in ME2.
Whole ME trilogy is supposed to be all about "Your" Commander Shepard and his actions from very begining of this ME universe.
Bioware shouldn't pull of such thing.
Anyway, that's what I think too...

You dont need to go that far to explain how stupid this is, Shepard is in the trailer.

At any rate, I'm just confused on something. Why aren't there other countries helping? Unless, of course, they're preoccupied with the Reapers reaping them as well.

Amazing trailer, but IMHO "sniper guy" would be an epic failure even if he was only given a secondary role. The reason why I think he's merely a placeholder is that he's very two-dimensional, almost straight out of a bad war FPS.But what if.... they pull a Bungie/Halo 2.... and we play like, the first mission as Shepard, and then it switches to that guy???? I believe when the Reapers invade in general they take over the entire planet from different areas not just one area and then increase outward. So it might be true that they are being attacked themselves though as it was just a teaser trailer, theres nothing really I can go on to prove this.
I believe it was a great debut trailer and can't wait to see more of ME3.

If they got Richard Armitage to voice him, then one assumes he will be a major character in the next game
In that case I stand corrected. What bothered me, perhaps in a subjective way, was that we now had these (seemingly) cliché soldiers in an universe as inventive as the MEverse, in which case I know whose loyalty I'm not interested in. It goes a bit beyond that, considering that naturally human soldiers aren't exactly formidable enemies against space invaders.
The point I'm trying to make is that the MEverse is so well written, colourful and about the only humans allowed on ships are either Spectres or top brass, or hailing from the colonies (post-human, perhaps?) So if you stick a character from CoD or whatever, well... I do acknowledge that earth was the only logical place to go for the finale, don't get me wrong.

99% you will play as Shepeard.
I can only imagine the sniper being the main character if Shepard died at the end of ME2 playthrough and you trasfer that save to ME3.

P.S: other homeworlds may get some too: Palaven, Kahje and Thessia being Earth-like would be the first to fall. Tuchanka is another kind of business, as most of the population lives in anti-rad shelters.
Not to mention, giant prawn shaped ships fighting a planet of Krogans... I think they'd be smart to skip Tuchunka and go to the Hanar homeworld. I mean they've only got a handful of Thane's co-workers and they're busy killing for the jellyfish.
But now that I think about it, a spec ops unit made up of drell trained like Thane would be pretty cool to see. Perhaps rapelling from The Shadowbroker's ship onto the back of Harbinger and destroying it from the inside, silently.
