I'm almost surprised that my earlier prediction of Mass Effect 3 having a Dragon Age: Origins like premise (evil force is invading, so you spend the game uniting the galaxy against them... more or less) looks to be exactly what's going down. But when I think about it, I really shouldn't be surprised. A good portion of ME2 seems to be setting up disputes you'll likely have to resolve during the course of ME3 (quarians vs. geth, krogan traditionalists vs. krogans that don't suck, etc., etc.), and the very concept of overcoming galactic grudges and such in order to overcome a greater threat is one of the obvious themes of the series as a whole, so it being the case in ME3 is the obvious answer.
I was flabbergasted when the trailer and game summary revealed that the Reapers were piledriving Earth directly as a first step. Honestly, I thought the Citadel would be their first stop, you know, like it was supposed to be in ME1. They must really consider humanity a threat to risk alerting the galaxy before taking full control of the Citadel and its Mass Relays.
