So we'd get cutscenes like in the blur trailer for ME2
Couple problems.
Number of discs wouldn't play a factor in this. Whether a rendered video is using high quality 3d modelling like we see in Blur cinematics or whether it just recorded in-game stuff, the 2 video files will be basically the same size, assuming they're the same length of time (give or take a few megs depending on number of frames).
What is a factor is 1) A 2-3 minute long pre-render video like we saw of this or SWTOR's videos, costs a few million dollars as an industry average (assuming you're using top studios like Blur, of course).
2) Doesn't work in game... ME1 & 2 have virtually no pre-rendered scenes (Except for normandy space battles) because the animators have no way to know what your Shepard looks like, what armor he has on, what your squad members have on, etc (remember that IGN article awhile back? The majority of ME2 players made a custom Shep.. only a minority played with the default Shep face).
All of ME2's cinematics had to be rendered real-time in game (like most games these days, actually) because of the diversity of the game... it only works for the space battles because we don't need to see the characters during those, and the normandy looks like the normandy, no matter what.
But cost is a the ultimate factor... a full length film made to the quality of the SWTOR trailers (or Blur's other stuff) would cost 10's of millions of dollars to make... you can't even begin to imagine the size of the rendering farm you'd need to make a 1.5-2hr long film in that quality... rendering alone could take months unless you dropped a sheer fortune on a vast number of high-end computers to handle it.

But... but... if we go deeper and thus things get more complex, won't that confuse the average 360 player? Has any game done this before? How do we know it'll work?Bio Addict wrote...
We need to go deeper...
17 discs
Before anyone thinks am taking ze ******, I am not, I am just taking Bio's idea and running an insheeption on it

Hopefully they won't nerf the PC version of the game because xbox360 is not good enough again.
Let's see. PC no issues for size, power etc. PS3, put it on a blu-ray disc (25GB single layer, 50 dual layer), and they all have large enough hard drives. XBox 360.......you write to the weakest link that buys a lot (or the most, power in money), gee, I wonder what will happen.

This.
I want more advanced video options, and controls that are not dumbed down.

As Pacifien said, it's highly unlikely they'll go with more discs unless absolutely necessary.

Since you seem to have an issue with a fellow forumite trying to keep the thread on-topic and from being shut down, let me step in for a moment to say platform wars are not allowed on this forum.Dr Bob UK wrote...

A poster who said what I was going to say before I said it. But I'll say it anyway.
Console vs. Console or Console vs. PC wars are not allowed on this forum, and the moderators will take action if they feel they have to. In short- Don't start with any elitism or belittling of consoles or PCs. NONE OF THAT.
Back to the actual topic,
I want ME3 to be on as many disks as possible. If we can get a three disk game that is pretty much completely MAIN story driven instead of based completely on recruiting characters, then it will be AMAZING.
So I support multiple disks. Keep in mind however that this is extra money they have to pay for releasing the game on more than one disk.

I won't mind getting up to change it every 20 minutes.
I could use the exercise.

But I'm not trying to instigate any platform wars?
It's fairly obvious that the high capacity of a blu-ray disc will mean that Mass Effect 3 will require only one of them, in contrast to however many DVDs it will require.
I am pretty sure what I just said is completely related to the thread, and my intentions were not to start a conflict about which platform is better.

Bare in mind that Microsoft increases the rates the more discs you add for their XBox 360 games. So unless you think the casual gamer would like to pay $90 for Mass Effect 3, more discs is an unlikely scenario. Not to mention that ME2's plot was designed around there being two discs because BioWare cannot assume everyone can load it onto their 360 hard drives, so the more discs you add into the mix, the more you have to alter the plot to cover disc switching.
Really? Wasn't Final Fantasy XIII a regular priced game despite being 3 discs?(Xbox360 version)
