If it's possible to avoid any story-related marketing (character intros, general plot direction), I'll try my best... but gameplay vids (specifically class changes/additions) are a must. If they can separate those two types, I'll be good.

Alright Mass Effectors, we got a glimpse of what to expect from ME3 with the awesome trailer that was released.

Now, who is up to the challenge of NOT looking at any ME3 media until after you've played ME3? A complete ME3 media blackout... I mean, no videos, pictures, or articles relating to ME3.  That would also mean staying out of the ME3 forum and website when that is created....  but of course look at release date info so you can pre-order!

I did it for ME2... it was brutal, but the feeling of going in to ME2 without looking at anything related to ME2 (except the first Legion reveal trailer) was great, and experiencing ME2 without really knowing anything in advance was fantastic.  Like I said, difficult, but well worth it in the end.

So.... who is with me?

I will do a media blackout, but not this early. Right now I am content and I'll even stay when they start to release the concept art as that is something to be viewed with an imaginary sense, not literal. After concept art, this is where things get tricky. I do not mind seeing screenshots which is why when the first batch of official in-game screenshots hit the net, I will STILL hang around and join the speculation. However, when the videos start to come out, that is when I leave.

So here is a rundown of my ME3 marketing toleration:

I will view:

1 - Teaser trailer (released last night)
2 - Concept art
3 - 1st Batch of Screenshots and probably 2nd batch of screenshots

I will not view:

1 - The 2nd trailer (probably released during E3 2011)
2 - Read or watch any developer interviews
3 - Read or watch any previews
4 - Any promotional material like the ME vs Sci-Fi videos released before ME2

With all that being said, I will probably be gone for good from these forums around March/April as Deus Ex will be out and Star Wars: The Old Republic would be just around the corner.

I tried for ME2, and failed hard. I will try for ME3 again, and hopefully not fail this time. I might have to buy some other games to divert my attention from ME3

I did it for ME2 and although it was tough, it was definitely worth it. I will again try to avoid as much as possible for ME3 but sadly some things will undoubtedly slip through!

Exactly! With ME1 and even ME2, there were no new games that interested me to hold me off until I played ME1 and ME2. Most of the good games I owned were games I have already beaten and thus got bored. With ME3, there will be Dragon Age 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and LA Noire to hold me over for months. Hell, next week I'll have Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - Vietnam to hold me over for a month of two.

So holding out for ME3 might be way more easier than it was to do with ME2 and even ME1 where I had nothing else better to so I just came here and got spoiled.

That BFBC2 Vietnam Expansion is going to be sick! I mean, the whole expansion is bigger then the game of Medal of Honor lol

Yeah, lots of games in 2011. Some I'll be looking out for include: Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword, The Last Guardian, Socom, DA2 etc. Might give that Old Republic a try, - will be meh first mmo.

The next elder scrolls game should keep me busy during teh whole Embargo day fiasco.

Honestly....the subtle and minor spoilers were fine until that day.....then everything took a turn for the worst. I say that if you're looking for a time to pull out, it'd be before embargo day....then you'll be safe.

I'm definitely going to do a blackout of some sort, although not as hardcore as you, kidbd15! I admire your willpower. I need to see at least some information or I'll go stark raving mad. But I don't want to know much about the squadmates or the plot, so before too long I'm going to have to stop looking at anything ME-related. In some ways it'll be good, though. ME2's marketing made me so incredibly furious that I decided not to buy the game. (Then I found out on the day before release that Garrus was romanceable, and well, that was that.) But nothing's going to stop me from getting ME3, so I may as well avoid excessive aggravation.

Having another ME fan in the house that isn't doing a media blackout...now that's going to be the hardest part!

This makes sense, especially the concept art.  I believe I looked at some concept art for ME2 since it was still ambiguous and revealed nothing.

But yea, need to find other things to keep me distracted!

Doubt I'll do it. There are a few things I would have preferred not to know/see, but overall I don't regret following ME2 before it was released.

I have a problem. I really want to see how ME3 is going and what they've changed, but then i really don't want any spoilers. And in the last interviews, basicall the whole plot of ME2 was given away by dev interviews.

It's only option for us to simply ask BioWare to not spoil the story.

We shouldn't know more that Shepherd would know.

I'd like to enter this game completely uninformed, but on the other hand, I liked chasing after info, visiting website, watching and discussing trailers, gameplays, and other stuff with you.

Hard decision to make really.

Would love to try but I don't have the willpower. Though I do think that even without trying I'll enter a blackout at 16th of July 2011 since that's when I go in the army Posted Image

And unless I get kicked from there, I'll be there at least 6 months...

The problem is that it's hard to avoid related material now, as soon as new info for ME3 is released it becomes a major headline for gaming websites.

COMMANDER SHEPHERD HAS CHILDREN IN MASS EFFECT 3!

Something like that is typical of IGN.

Anyway, I'm in the lucky position of not even having seen the first trailer for Mass Effect 3 so I could do it completely. I know for certain I'm not watching gameplay footage or looking at screen shots, but I may watch the first trailer when it is available on Xbox Live Marketoplace in HD.

Yes, that is a way out - minimize the info you read just so you can be up-to-date but still game have more surprizes for you.

Usually watching fan-made gameplay videos is where you get in the most trouble with spoilers, but that seemed to be the complete opposite with ME2.

I think it was like the second ever video from Bioware where Casey Hudson said "one of the endings is Shepard dying."

That blew my mind that they would spoil the ending almost 8 months before the game came out.

So now I'm more afraid of watching official trailers.

I'll keep appraised of game mechanic changes like new powers, weapons, or level cap increases, but I doubt I'll watch any companion videos or anything like that. When the forums were abuzz with Subject Zero discussion, it was suggested she'd be able to have a Vanguard-like Charge or be more Adept-like depending on how you spent your skill points with her, and when the game hit I was supremely disappointed.

I don't think i could live with a total blackout. It'll be fine as long as Bioware quit there habit of putting major spoilers in trailers there is just no need for it. I'm sure they can advertise the game without throwing in shots of secret party members returning and spoiling major plot points.
