Just started through Feros again and thought it would be fun to try keeping David al-Talaqani alive. I had Tali put tech mines on the wall behind him before approaching. They detonated as he started speaking and the geth who normally kill him were paralysed. Haven't completed the mission yet so I don' t know if it sticks. I'm going to try to save the woman in the stairwell in the same manner but last time I attempted that it didn't work.

It's one of the railroaded things, like you can't hit Fai Dan with an anti-thorian grenade before he can kill himself.
