Would you purchase it? This is of course a heavy hypothetical but go with me on this. Re-released along with all the butchered content restored, bugs and the like cleaned up and graphics made somewhat more modern friendly. I still think it's a damn shame what LucasArts did in rushing the release, and am even more miffed (an understatement, really) that they rejected Obsidian's request in releasing a patch. The game is great and I feel it had much more memorable characters (Kriea first and foremost) than the first but it could have been so much more than it was. Thoughts?

I would-- I was extremely pissed-off when my super-Jedi got screwed by the Narr Shadaa glitch (the one where the aliens never take your spaceship, basically leaving players in plot purgatory). I did beat it after starting a new game, but I was terrified of getting Narr Shadaa again (it was my last planet the first time, so I did it first the second time just so I wouldn't lose hours of my life if it glitched again). I would also like to be able to use blasters/rifles to some effect against Jedi. Really, they were useless late in the game. If I want to use a blaster and Force Push people to oblivion, I should very well be able to!

I would rather see new single player RPGs in the SW universe. Reboots are killing Hollywood, let's not spread the infection.

First, I put the blame of "KotOR II's" issues squarely on Obsidian Entertainment. Everything from the lack-luster story, bugs that interfered with functionality, its incomplete resolutions, to the horrible public relations hell that followed. After Obsidian Entertainment got hit with backlash by fans, they decided to bash LucasArts in a gaming magazine. Even though the developer took some responsibility, he didn't approach the situation in a professional manner. Once he realized there was no place to go, he used his company's online forums to pit fans against fans. I also blame them for the 'TSLRP' hell that divided fans across many online forums. If Obsidian actually respected LucasArt's property, they would have clamped down on such hell. Very unprofessional.

Second, after debating about keeping my set together, I ended up throwing out "The Sith Lords" a few days ago. It was a useless and meaningless sequel to a piece of BioWare perfection.

Other words, I would not waste another dime on a piece of trash.

Now, you know why 'The Old Republic' was returned to BioWare. Even though they are going through some growing pains, BioWare is still a class act when it comes to both their fans and another person's property.

Sorry, but that's wrong. Obsidian were given ~18 months to plan, design, research, learn the engine, build, record and bug-fix their game. For a project the size of TSL, that's a ridiculous prospect, especially considering it was Obsidian's first project as a studio and they'd had no experience with the new tools. You're also missing the fact that KotOR had only just been released when development had started, and Obsidian weren't given time to get to grips with it, its story and other elements - it's why there's, for example, contradictions in the writing (Such as confusion with Revan's gender).

Yes, Obsidian should have been less adventurous with the story, especially considering their limited time frame, but at the same time LucasArts should have given them at least another 6 months to finish, tune and polish the game. Games of KotOR2's size and scope can't be farted out in such a short space of time.

You can't return something to someone if it's not theirs in the first place. And no, BioWare are not a class act - Far from it.

Only if LucasArts let's Obsidian finish the job properly. The story was great, but at the end it was barely holding itself together thanks to a totally useless rushed deadline.

I agree

Did Obsidian Entertainment get too ambitious considering the time frame they were given?......yes.
The blame for releasing the game unfinished  however, goes right to LucasArts. They made that call.
I guess they needed the money right then and couldn't wait about 6 monthsPosted Image.................... cuz I know that they would never put out an inferior Star Wars game unless it was totally unavoidablePosted Image

To the OP....yes I would buy it!Posted Image

TSL Restored Content Mod (1.6) - Authors: Zbyl2 and DarthStoney UNOFFICIAL

This was excellent. It (+ red eclipse fix) really made the KotORII at least whole. And if i remember correctly it just followed script (map names, left out conversations, plot twists etc.).

If you're interested in it, here's a link to a 1.7 version of that mod.
http://deadlystream....file/13-tslrcm/

I orginally bought the games on the Xbox, but finally bought the PC version of TSL on Monday as I felt it about time I tried to play it with the PC mods... Finally installed the game and a few mods yesterday, only to find that my graphics card (Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family) has had a history of not working with KotOR II (though it passes the minimum requirements for the graphics card, and works fine with KotOR I.

So, no cut-content for me... Not unless I change my PC/graphics card, at least.

So (again), I was thinking about this earlier. Forget upgraded graphics or anything similar, let Bioware focus on TOR, and give Obsidian both games to 'transfer' to the Xbox 360, with any cut content added, and possibly added achievements or something to give a little more incentive to play the game (whether or not you played it previously).

It could even be tied into the marketing of TOR (sorta like the re-showings of the first two Toy Story films (in 3D) before the third was released this past summer).

To bad Lucasarts didn't want the third KOTOR and 2 years ago Obsidian were eager to develop it. Now we will never know the true fates of the Exile and Revan. TBH, I don't like MMORPGs and I want to know what the hell happened to the both of them in detail not some online rpg that takes place 300 years after TSL.

@thomaswheeler94 Thanks for the link!

I found the vanilla (especially the horribly cobbled ending) KotORII big dissapointment. Mostly because of the rushed quality.

Absolutely. I think it's a damn shame that Obsidian got so much backlash for the game. I already think the game is amazing. But just looking at everything that was planned for the game... It's just dumbfounding, really. Obsidian had dreams that were too big and that couldn't be accomplished in the time they have. The story, the characters, the writing, and the improved gameplay elements were superb. I hate that people seem to look over those things and focus solely on how Lt. Grenn says one line about how you didn't get fuel to Telos, when you did.

They should have been given more time flesh out the game.

I should add that every game Obsidian releases gets terrible reviews because it seems unpolished, unfinished and has gameplay bugs. I don't really know why they are still getting work since they have not turned out a single critically acclaimed game. My favorite way of reviewing a game is to play it and see what I remember some time later. I remember DA:O well, Mass Effect 1 well, KOTOR well, but nothing about KOTOR2. It just didn't have any emotional connection with the player. To be honest I kind of forget ME2 as well, but that's just me, I did enjoy the game, though the story was rather weak since you never really feel anything about the collectors.

Back to KOTOR 2, if the game was seriously redone, polished and perfected, then yes I would buy it, though never on pre-order. I think if the HK planet was added, the whole point of Darth Nihlus, I had to look his name up, explained, and the ending finished then it would be a good game, maybe. I say maybe because the whole Malachore V thing and the overall plot of the game makes little sense.

Little sense? Honestly, I absolutely loved the plot of the game. I remember every character and I remember a ton of moments from the game. Anything at all that didn't make sense was because Obsidian didn't finish it, though the majority of that (If not all of it) takes place at the endgame.

Darth Nihilus was an obstacle. He held the same point as Sion. I almost just went into a full explanation about that, but I... though spoilers ARE allowed in the forum, I'd rather not post full endgame spoilers in the thread. Anywho, if you're truly interested, just ask and I'll send a PM.

I think that, if KotOR 2 was finished, it would have been equal to or even better than the first game. The first is my favorite game of all time.

I also find you forgetting ME2 very questionable. Yes, the plot is somewhere between bad and nonexistent, though the characters are very memorable. At least I think they are. That's just my opinion, however.

I'd buy a complete remake of KotOR 1 and 2, done by BioWare, with upgraded graphics/gameplay etc. and some DLC

If they gave Bugsidian 2 more years the game still would be been as buggy and unfinished.

It was LucasArts' fault for KOTOR2 being unfinished.

Just like how it was Atari's fault NwN2 is one of the buggiest games ever.

And how it was Sega's fault for Alpha Protocol. They didn't give Bugsidian enough time, only 5 years.

And how it's Bethesda's fault FNV was so buggy.

It was NEVER Bugsidian's fault, it was always the publisher

I don't know the business dynamics in this case or how busy different companies were, but if somebody makes good work. Don't change the makers.

I had a game breaking bug on Nar Shaddaa and fixed it using the save editor.

If and only if they rewrote the ending. I loved the entire game up to the end. That was a terrible way to wrap it all up.

I played this game on Xbox and thought it was a disappointment. But I found this on a store shelf for the PC and hear about the famous restored content mod, so I bought it. Currently playing it through Vanilla, then I'll play it through with the restored content mod, it'll be interesting to refresh my memory and see the difference it makes. Maybe it'll change my mind on the game.
