I would also like to chip in that quite frankly the War against the Reapers is going to have casualties, no matter what. It will be extremely painful to see your beloved fellow ME characters be brutally killed off but I'm expecting this. And the fact that some of you won't buy the game because there is the possibility your beautiful Tali or Garrus might die then good luck to you.
I'll be gaming and having fun. I mean be serious, you don't really think that everyone is going to survive. Did you? I mean hello?

Yeah... I think people will die. Definately. There are going to be some major casualties.

Man they are huge, I know Sovereign would have loved to be around for invasion time.

^Uhm... fix your quote :P but I stand by what I said. No matter what I have a bad feeling that we're going to lose some well known and loved faces from Mass Effect :|

Honestly, I find it highly unlikely that all of the squad is going to return. In fact, I can easily see them cutting characters who just never struck a chord with the fandom like Jacob.

Bummer, because I actually do like Jacob.

Why does nobody like Jacob?
If you didn't like him (to me anyway!) that suggests you never took the time to get to know him properly.
"We live, we'll get loud and spill some drinks on the citadel"
*brobuddy hug*
That is the moment I really warmed up to him.

In my version, Miranda and Jacob cannot go back to Cerberus.
I told the Illusive Man where he could shove his homegrown cigars and brandy.
Although I will not be surprised if we have to work together out of necessity, there's going to be no trust between our sides in ME2.
And I suspect Liara is busy inserting agents into Cerberus as we speak.....

Realistically, recruiting too many squadmates and doing loyalty missions would be a bad idea and too repetitive.
We're going to hit the ground running and start preparing to fight the Reapers, not go around the galaxy making new friends and playing Dr Phil in space.
Although I suspect new squadmates will be a part of that, it won't be the focus of the game.

Like ME2, I expect the eventual outcome of the battle is based on preparation.
Do it right, everyone lives, you kick the Reapers to the kerb.
And that's the ending I'd like to see, a massive party on the Citadel celebrating our victory.
"Kasumi, stop doing airquotes and dismissing the council!"
"Grunt, must you really wave that Reaper leg at them?"

Would also like to see Kelly Chambers in a bigger role, or as a squad member, she made me laugh !

Wonder what class she would be?
We've never touched on what Kelly would do in battle.
I assume she has some basic training, but to me, it appears she's not really a combat specialist in any way.
She can empathize and counsel with the best of them, but hand her a gun and it'll be a case of:
"What's the trigger? And where do I insert the heat sinks?"

Although highly unlikely, I'd be interested to see Gillian Grayson as a squadmate.
Picturing the scene now:
Merc: This is your ultimate defense? A fourteen year old kid?
*Shepherd looks at Gillian and nods*
Multiple crashes, bangs, sound of shattering objects, cue screaming.
Miranda: Well, that was easy, next?

They don't have to worry about continuity anymore, but they still have to worry about resources. With a limited budget and limited time they have to compromise. This means squad mates that will not be available for all players are a waste of resources, specially since these characters have a lot of voice acting and possibly their own missions. BioWare can not provide satisfying content for all previous characters and have a enough other content for the main story.

Bioware has a massive budget for ME3, EA was more than happy with ME2's success. If they have the budget for a completely seperate Multiplayer dev team they have the budget for some crazy crap.

Plus:  How is it a waste of any resources when almost every player will probably have at least one playthrough in which everyone survives?  I mean, I'm sure I'll have a playthrough or two with missing characters, but I want to see everyone's possibilities, squad member or not.
