Doesn't each Reaper have a slightly different outward appearance, based on the species it gooifies?

Most likely to save time, the game will most likely be more detailed.. or not.

WHO KNOWS?

i was under the impression that is the reapers outter shell, thier hull.
so it makes sense they are the same.

unless you want to see a giant human floating through space beside some wierd squid and a bird.
that would make it much less intimidating Image IPB

Because it's Cheaper to just reuse the same model instead of making a bunch of individual ones that will only be seen for five seconds.

No. Not really. Plus I remember hearing somewhere that that human reaper thing was supposed to be some internal structure. They ALL look like squids.

Ninja'd by 45 seconds.

Probably the reapers saw in trailer were simply of the same generation of Sovereign. They're based on the same "project".

Just look at Harbinger and compare him to Sovereign. They are definitely not identical in appearance.

This.
Also, remember it's a CGI trailer, not the actual videogame graphic.

The Human Smoothie-Powered Giant Terminator Baby is getting retconned out of existence.

There will be much rejoicing.

Definitely true. Why would they go all out on how the Reapers look on the first teaser trailer? We should wait until a trailer with actual video game representations of them, or better yet just wait until the game comes out.

Reapers are effectively like power armour for the reaper/alien race hybrid. The armour looks like the squid. The actual organism is inside.

This comes onto the harder question. If one reaper is added each cycle, why haven't previous inhabitants of the milky way been able to stop the reaper fleet when it was smaller and weaker? Why only now?

That's a silly question.

Anyway, look at this video starting at 4:39:

It shows what Harbinger looks like from four different angles. Then look at the actual fleet. Each Reaper looks slightly different.

I was thinking possibly some sort of Reaper hierarchy, with ones such as Harbinger being the more assertive, commanding figures and the ones in the trailer and Sovereign being more soldier 'infantry' types.

Considering Sovereign was 'found' by Saren, there's no reason to assume Sovereign was anything more than just a standard Reaper; just one that was left behind from the previous cycle. Whereas Harbinger exerted a much more noticeable influence, with the whole assuming control mechanic, giving the impression of a more specialised leader role. Whilst all Reapers seem to have the indoctrination ability passively (even the derelict one), some have a more powerful influence than others; Harbinger.

Given how detailed Blur trailers are I think they could've perfectly make variants of the Reaper model, yet again they might have re-used the model since it's a teaser.

Anyhow, the derelict Reaper looked just like Sovereign it isn't unprecedented, if they are made from a big civilization like the Protheans who extended all over the Galaxy there might be quite a bit of Nazara-like Reapers.

I think the numbers have remained static over the years. However that means each cycle they lose about as much as they gain.

The Reapers have always looked the same. Remember the derelict reaper? Looked exactly like Sovereign... with some holes. And at the end of the game we saw several Reapers floating in dark space the all also looked exactly like Soveriegn from what we could see.

The whole human Reaper idea never made any sense, we've seen several Reapers before and they all look the same. Plus lets not forget they think all life in the galaxy is so inferior that it somehow deserves to be wiped out, how can they believe that at the same time they think some life in the Galaxy is good enough for them to mimic? You don't mimic things because you think they're inferior, that would make you by your own logic inferior, you mimic things because you think they're somehow better than you.

Ehh they don't look the same, You can see small variations in all of them if you look closely it it's easy to see on the one in the sky coming down for landing(more claw like "arms" and broader "back shell"..or whatyoucallit.)

look more closely at the last cut-scene with the Reaper fleet. They actually do not look exactly like Sovereign.

Even the Reapers at the end of Mass Effect 2 are just the same 3-4 designs copied and pasted over and over.

Sometimes there is no hidden message in stuff, you know.

I will, and maybe they don't all look exactly the same, but bottom line any major differences would have stuck out. They all have the same basic squid shape. They aren't flying space aliens from different cycles.

From what I saw in the ending of ME2 (as per the above youtube link) the reapers all have a very similar appearance (big flying/floating in space techno-organic squid-like ship with a few minor differences)

Right, but in this case, the minor differences make a big difference. In the ME3 trailer, there aren't even minor differences among the Reapers.

the trailer was presumably made by an outside cgi company not Bioware, hence the small irregularities like the incisor only firing one shot or the reapers appearing the same

I wish they had never made the "takes on the appearance of the species" claim. I certainly don't like the "shell" explanation. But whatever, I was more annoyed by all the identical ME2 gunships buzzing around. Come on, BW.
