It'll never happen. Bioware call him the iconic Shepard for a reason.

Yeah, its that attitude which doesn't help. FemShep is just as iconic as male shepard. She's been around just as long as him and does exactly the same things. The only difference is she's got the prize and different lovers.

According to the telemetry data BioWare shared with IGN, only like 20% of ME2 players used FemShep. 20% isn't exactly on par with MaleShep's 80%, bro.

uk.pc.ign.com/articles/111/1118657p1.html

That just does not sound right to me at all. I think 80 / 20 is not an accurate representation.

That said - for Shep to become iconically female would indeed change it's value. Nevertheless 80 / 20 does not sound right.

Yeah, it says 80% have played as male Shepard, not necessarily that 80% of Shepards are male. I've played as a male Shepard, but most of my playthroughs are female Shepard.

It's not a trailer, but ...

I appreciate it the link, but I want a banner with a trailer in mind.

To the other comments. Just because Male shepard is the icon doesn't mean they can't do one little trailer. Seriously, its the final game. They aren't making another Mass Effect with Shepard in it. I'm not saying we need to see Jane Shepard's face, but like you saw in the teaser. We could see her N7 armor.

They could literally redo the same trailer they had and put a female shepard in it. It wouldn't be a big deal. They just cut one part of it and add another. It might take 6 hours the most if the right guy does it.

At best, we might get an in-game picture or two of Jane. Other than that, don't hold your breathe.

Yes, the stats with no information on how they were gathered are all that people need to assert accuracy.  Were these from the first playthrough, multiple playthroughs?  It doesn't matter.  The numbers don't lie!!

Also people assume that 80% male shepards means 20% female shepards. They aren't mutually exclusive!

Those statistics just always seemed wonky to me.

I figure those stats on Male/Female are bull.

How were they gathered?

Who gathered them?

What about individuals who've played both male and female Shepards?

Quite honestly, an explanation of the source would be very nice to have if you're going to argue using that statistical set.

Don't think Bioware are gonna change strategy promoting the last game.

Though when the Shepard saga is over and the next series of games set in the Mass Effect universe comes out they should make the next iconic character female.

I'm fairly convinced those statistics don't take into account anything after your first playthrough. Why would I think so? Because I don't and can't believe only 20% played as FemShep.

It won't be. It will be another generic white dude with brown hair.

Won't happen.  After ME3 it will go total multiplayer/FPS.  Don't need an iconic character for that.

We're all fans who play this game multiple times with multiple characters, talk about it on forums, and want to see every conceivable outcome to all decisions. So yes, we all play as femshep from time to time.

However, we are in the minority. The HUGE minority.

The majority of players would play this game once, with a soldier class male Shepard, and then either take it back to the rental shop or sell it on. That type of Mass Effect player would never be represented on a forum like this, and that's why people find it so hard to understand the viewpoint of a player who has no interest in playing the same game twice. regardless of how different it may be the second time.

the statistics bear this out.  I don;t like it, but stats are stats.

Campus wide survey at someplace like GA Tech,  MIT, or a service acadmey,  where 80% of the population is male.:o

A Poll on this very site showed that more people played Femsheps than Malesheps.

That's not taking into account those that said they played Femshep most of the time and sometimes Maleshep and visa versa.

That being said, it will probably take a while before anyone has the balls to make an awesome female iconic character. Like Samus Aran for instance, has anyone seen a character quite like that since? If she was made these days instead of back then I swear to hell and back she'd be more like Bayonetta.

Or she would be Isaac Clarke.

Point being, no god damn company is interested right now in displaying strong female characters as the main player in a story for their games.

"Hey, should we make a badass woman be the character for this game?"

"No! Don't you know anything? There are no female gamers - and there no females on the internetz! lulz - we shall give our fanboys their generic male hero to feel badass about!"

Or-

"Hey, should we make a badass woman be the character for this game?"

"Badass? You mean DAT ASS - lets make her fight in a bikini and squeal in pleasure whenever she's hit!"

"What is this I don't even...?"

Etc.

Don't give up hope Ashira. I mean, even reach has female Spartans to play now. And we all know there's plenty of female gamers out there.

I know there are a few. But they drown out in a sea of white male brunettes. For the love of god someone fish out that demotivational with 30 headshots of generic male game characters.

I doubt Bioware will make a femshep trailer. If they do then I would be happy to see the closest thing to Taylor (my Femshep) in a promotion.

Best we can hope for now would be if Bioware planned to make a new ME Triology, in where the default customizable character is a woman and be optional as a man.

there are more then just a "few"

instead of getting pissed that not every game stars a chick, more complaints should be raised about the fact i cant name one Black male protagonist to a video game

I think if they do feature FemShep somewhere, it will probably be Jane, the default version.

What are you implying? That BioWare is releasing false telemetry data? Come on. Regarldess of whether or not you're happy with the data, the data is what it is. 80% of ME2 players played as MaleShep. I'm a FemShep player myself, but I don't find the fact that I'm in a tiny minority to be surprising at all.

Not going to happen.
