It won't happen because of monetary reasons. They will stay with the image (the "iconic" shepard) that they have already chosen. Its too late to change their branding now. Also, they are using the male target audience, like most companies do. A protest/support movement now will be a wasted effort as the teaser trailer has already been released and that are going to have to "stick to their guns" to avoid an redirection to keep the marketing focus forward. I'm not defending them per say but this is how marketing works unfortunatly. Pushing femshep in previews for DLC and developing content for ME3 is possible though.

However, I am all for a fan made femshep ME3 trailer if anyone thinks they can pull it off. Personally, if I had the CG skills I'd see about modding that quick shadowy shot of Shepard to make him look like a female but I don't have near the skills to make it look at all believable. The hardest part would be the body as even if that face and head was redone, Shepard would still little pretty buff.

Somebody beat you to it, and did a mighty fine job I might add.

Obviously, people are going to have to wait until ME3 comes out for a fan to make a brand spanking new femShep trailer version.

Art direction, Particle effects, rendering, lighting, quality 3d models and motion-capture animation techology. Very meticulous and time-consuming work, not just on the staff, but on the machines as well. [Render farms FTW]

Oh and not to mention there's a whole studio of mouths to feed.

Of course it's expensive. Blur does good work, and Bioware/EA paid for that quality.

Actually its the labor. That is what costs them so much. The rendering is easy. I've seen a fan make better CGI in 3 hours than most employees at game companies. He is right though Blender just upgraded too and its way powerful stuff. The reason however is the labor. People working costs money and that money is resources and time. Time is money and the labor is the thing which costs the most. Plus what costs more is the copy righting. For every copy right a studio has to do a waver. They have to pay the people who made the trailer in royalties. People don't realize that every time a movie plays on TV or a network. The channel or network has to pay the studio some gross pay in order to play it. I'm in the indie film bizz and trust me. Just trying to get a script into motion costs money.

It'll never happen. Bioware call him the iconic Shepard for a reason.

Yeah, its that attitude which doesn't help. FemShep is just as iconic as male shepard. She's been around just as long as him and does exactly the same things. The only difference is she's got the prize and different lovers.

According to the telemetry data BioWare shared with IGN, only like 20% of ME2 players used FemShep. 20% isn't exactly on par with MaleShep's 80%, bro.

uk.pc.ign.com/articles/111/1118657p1.html

That just does not sound right to me at all. I think 80 / 20 is not an accurate representation.

That said - for Shep to become iconically female would indeed change it's value. Nevertheless 80 / 20 does not sound right.

This is likely to count for only your initial file and none subsequent. I recall Bioware even mentioning this at some point, although do not hold me to that. In any event, Femshep as the marketing icon shall never come to pass. It is neither practical or wise for them to centralize on Femshep in lieu of Sheploo from a marketing standpoint. While female gamers are steadily raising in recent years. They remain in the vast minority in comparison to their male counterpart, and the majority will play and relate to a male Shepard.

Would it hinder sales had Shepard been female from the onset? I honestly cannot say because we have examples to suggest she may not. Of course, the most prominent is Samus. The qualm? Nintento caters to sex appeal and we have not evolved enough for sex not to sell. Personally, I am a Femshep fan but do not care either way.

Frankly, Bioware's lack of focus on Femsheps means when I get to work on a few trailers (LotSB is my first project), it will be that much more unique. Now if I could afford a new PC to handle ME2... >.>

I remember reading that out of the total percentage of gamers, 40% are female. That's not exactly a "vast" minority (could be off, I read it on the internet, and we all know how silly the internet can be).

And there is no way that only 20% of players play femshep. That number seems freakishly small.

Still, yeah, Maleshep just has too much marketing power. Which is a real shame, because him rather unappealing.

Agreed, however, I would like to hope that someone with enough tech experiance could make edits to the teaser but you'd need someone with industry experiance and hardware, and I'd be willing to bet all the money I have on that not happening. I personally can't wait for ME3 just to see people make all sorts of cool fan trailers, I had a blast making some ME2 ones myself :P

No what is going to be awesome with the fan stuff is when the story is over and for the PC players to really use all the games to make awesome videos. I would like to see someone maybe use a couple of scenes if they could find them for ME 2 in the ME 3 trailer. I mean who knows. Someone might come along see this and be like. Hmm, I could do something about that,.. but you never know. I'm going to be looking for a couple of animators where I live and see if I can get something together. I'm in indie movies and I know some people with a green screen. They may find this little project fun. I'm going to help support women's rights no matter what and having Bioware acknowledge femshep with a trailer would be awesome. I mean even if they make a trailer with actual gameplay foot only. They should at least put Femshep in it for a few clips. I think that would be enough to satify me.

I can see their reason not doing a femShep trailer - continuity, recognizability (is this a word?), trying to attract male teens etc.

But: I must admit at being really annoyed at the Making of vids, where they had a long interview with Meer and totally ignored Hale. That was just bad manners. Those vids are more or less only watched by the die-hard fans anyway, people who obviously would know that there is the possibility of a femShep.

For me, that really was a kick in the teeth for female players.

I created a nice little poll if anyone wants to check it out. Please vote and give your opinion of the Female shepard trailer. http://social.biowar...31/polls/12973/

Lets put it this way. I will stay it again. At some point Bioware is going to make a gameplay trailer. Yes, it would be with Maleshep, but why not add some of the Femshep footage into it as well. This way people know there is two shepards. Your telling the ladies out there that they "Hey we know you exist and we are promoting to you at the same time. Male shepards stays icon as he is. Nobody gets hurt and everyone is happy. I mean shizz. At least she is there. I would be totally satified if they did it like that.

It will never happen and it should never happen. There is a reason why they don't show every trailer with a different custom Shepard face. The canon game has the default shep as the hero, then Bioware gives you the OPTION of playing as a female, or a male with a different face.

Its like as if they made a bond game where they let you choose your face or your gender, they would still keep the iconic bond of the moment in this case Daniel Craig. And it would make zero sense to make a trailer with some random fan or dev made custom character. Not to mention all the girls that would complain "ooo shes blonde why isnt she black haired???!!! AAA she's wearing red lipstick BIOWARE YOU SELLOUTS!!!!" etc etc.

Its just better this way.

Sheploo is the marketing Shepard.

Hasn't changed. Won't change. Who cares, are you getting hurt in any way from this?

I think... I think I'll just lock this thread now and not give a reason. Other than perhaps I should add "FemShep versus ManShep" to the list of versus threads that never get us anywhere.
