It's pretty obvious that most of the world isn't burning from the trailer. Your estimates only hold if the entire world is invaded simultaneously, but we don't see that from the trailer. I'll take a VLC screenshot:

True, i'm only going by the voice over text, which as a grunt (he seems like a grunt), the soldier may not have the full picture. If he does have a good picture though, the sentence "its a well coordinated attack" hints that the attack hit several major cities simultaneously. I am guessing high population centers = major cities and thus projecting the current high population centers to Mass Effects timeline.

About the picture, do you know where the burning is happening at? I am guessing Europe but can't make out the area.

The specific location is pretty much impossible to make out, but given that I can't see any oceans and the relative amount of the Earth we can see, it would basically have to be the Eurasian landmass. My guess is western Europe.

"Other Major Cities" may well just mean other major British cities. There are a million ways we could take this. The dialogue may be inaccurate, or the CGI visuals may be inaccurate. We won't really find out for sure until we see the final game or get something more solid from a Bioware employee.

Of course nothings for sure until ME3 really ships. This is just a guessing game to enjoy. I also checked the mass effect wikia and noticed that sea levels are supposed to have risen 2 meters making identification even harder.
