i would never include a death from the hammerhead. playing a hardcore run is much more important about what happens when your driving around in that crapily implemented vehicle. I know i could do ME1 insanity in a hardcore run, but ME2 is a different story. once you get to hardcore/insanity with enemy protections, the tables sortof turn.
Has anyone done a hardcore (zero deaths) run?

I've done HC with an Engineer BUT:
-- I do pause on the power wheel to make sure I target the right things with the right powers
-- If I get a bug [running in the air or whatever] I reload

I tried a hardcore run on hardcore mode using a shotgun vanguard (cliched, I know). Turns out, rambo charging 5 or 6 collectors doesn't work quite so well
Meh, I got to horizon

I don't think i could do a hardcore run...but i've practically beat the game on insanity with the engineer (one playthrough i did veteran for one-half and insanity on the other; now on my second playthrough im doing insanity all the way through. Working on 2 insanity classes now)

I always play DID ("hardcore") with no pausing, but usually on Veteran difficulty.

I'm trying to do this on insanity, first from level 1 to 30 and after that I'll try from a new game +.
.
But I don't start from the beginning. Once I'm on the Normandy I do the firewalkers missions, but everything I have to buy and save right before the first mission itself. I load from there when I die, because otherwise it's a major waste of time.

It IS a completely different experience to play Ironman. You really have to think out what you do and buy between missions and in what order you recruit members. Whether or not you leave a squadmate with Garrus when you go to the basement becomes a very REAL decision to you rather than just "what choice gives me paragon/renegade points". For those that are bored with the game, give Ironman a try. It makes all your decisions much more important. Yes, you play more conservatively (just like if your life was really on the line), but you still have to be aggressive in parts or you can get flanked and killed.
